This place is LEGIT. If you like aux délices de shandong, this place is its sister restaurant. Believe it or not, this restaurant is located a few meters down on the same street, and is run by the same owners. How did I discover this gem? One summer, as I approached aux délices de shandong, I was so sad to see that it was shuttered up(they had taken some time off in August to go to China) but there was a sign on the shutters. Curious, I read that customers were invited to head to their sister restaurant, au pays de Confucius just down the block. And that’s where this love affair begins. (Please note that on the sign out front, this restaurant is called both aux délices de Confucius AND au pays de Confucius. I Will be referring to it as the latter in my review.) Au pays de Confucius offers the same delicious hand-made Chinese dumplings as aux délices de shandong. In fact, when you order the dumplings, they bring them over from aux délices de shandong. What is missing from aux délices de shandong? Other dishes! Sides! Grilled eggplant! Where aux délices de shandong lacks, au pays de Confucius picks up. Indeed, this restaurant offers a very large and vast menu. You can order just about any Chinese food you want! Soups, dumplings, noodles… The choice is yours! I highly recommend splitting orders of dumplings and the grilled eggplants. YUM. They are the stuff dreams are made of. Besides that, this place is very spacious(unlike aux délices de shandong which is small), and rather elegant. It’s often packed with Chinese diners — always a good sign, and they even have those large round spinning tables(if you are a big group and decide to order Chinese-style — aka a bunch of dishes split between the group). Enjoy! You can thank me later ;)
