The food here is actually pretty good; I was debating for a while whether to give it three or four stars. I got a tofu with vegetable curry, and it came with rice. The curry could have been more flavorful, but there was a lot of food and it was pretty good. I think the meal is 3.5 stars worthy, but the waitresses were really friendly. We couldn’t figure out where to pay for the ticket, and one of them walked me down the street to show me. That was pretty cool of her! Anyway, good food, worth trying!

We arrived at 1855 and they said they changed there hours closing hours from 2200 to 1900 the restaurant had many open seats. Two other couples after U.S. we’re also upset. In looking in the restaurant it was not what we expected anyway. Cheap beat up seats and plastic topped tables, this was more of a fast food place.

Good food for the prices but do not come here for a romantic meal. You will have to share your table with customers and the the boss is always running and speaking too loudly. I will come back for lounas or for take away.

Brilliant, lovely food for a great price. The staff are so lovely. It can get very busy but worth going. Get a big feed and each dish is surprisingly different in taste. Couldn’t recommend enough.

One if the best traditional asian style restaurants in Helsinki. Tasty and spicy food. Great service but usually place is very full. But you should wait for the table… the food is so worth it.

Excellent food, especially if you’re a vegetarian. Very crowded and vet very noisy, so it was difficult to have a decent conversation. And it’s so crowded that they seat you at a table with strangers, which is apparently normal in much of Asia but a bit odd if you’re not used to it. Staff were super friendly and quick. I would suggest the vegetarian mixed dish — a mix of a small dish with an appetizer and desert for € 11.50. Is much bigger meal than you expect.

This is not only my favorite restaurant in Helsinki, but it’s also probably the best Chinese food in the world. Granted, I’ve never been to China, but I have eaten at plenty of Chinese restaurants in other countries, and none, not even the ones in Chinatown, NYC, can match the deliciousness of my New Bamboo Center. I’ve been coming here for about a decade now and make it a yearly destination for my birthday celebration. I even started dating a guy who lived upstairs. We now live together thanks to our bond over New Bamboo Center. Excellent food, wonderful service, even if they do make strange faces at me when I ask if they can mail the fried tofu to me in NYC. Bless.

New Bamboo Center has saved my life so many times I’ve stopped counting ages ago! This is a legendary place where food is always superb and service makes me smile every time. They serve the hottest chilli sauce I’ve encountered in Helsinki(just ask for extra hot) which is great for hangovers ;)

I have been looking for a place like this for weeks in Helsinki. Just somewhere you can sit down and have a great dinner without all the fuzz. The food is excellent, portions are large and it comes with a lot of veggies. The staff is friendly and quick. This is a keeper!

After reading the reviews I’d decided that this would be my first restaurant experience in Helsinki! Upon arrival, I noticed that that there were a lot of other single diners who had been placed at the same table. So imagine a table full of people, but no one is talking. Weird. Anyway, the waitress was so nice and sweet! She greeted me in Finnish, but then switched to English when she saw the blank stare on my face. I ordered the combo plate which in California would normally cost about $ 5 cost the equivalent of $ 16!!! Crazy, right?! Such was life in Helsinki, super expensive! Anyway, my meal included small, but tasty, portions of sweet an sour chicken, fried prawns, beef and curry chicken. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful! I had a pleasant experience, I would highly recommend it.

Finally a place with some actual high-quality spice in Helsinki! I was totally blown away when I ate here. Their curry is unbelievable — and unbelievably spicy, if you aren’t careful. I consider myself a spice-lover, but nothing too heavy, and two chilies was plenty for me(the waiter said nine chilies is Malaysian-hot — no way!!). I did return for their lunch menu, and while a great value for the amount of food you get, you’re probably not going to understand how amazing this place is if you aren’t ordering Malaysian curry. I recommend getting it with the tofu because the bites of tofu help cool your mouth a little bit as you’re eating it! It is a small space so you might end up sharing a table with strangers, and it can get very hot inside during the dinner rush, but they’ll turn on little fans for you above the table if necessary. It’s nice to see a family restaurant like this do so well with the locals and I would absolutely return on my next visit to Helsinki.

My prejudices about Helsinki cuisine and price points got fucked last night. I finally give in and admit that Malaysian and Thai are not really thad different and that some Helsinki establishments can and do live up to the bar set for me in cities like San Francisco, LA, NYC… New Bamboo Center is the bomb. Tofu Veggie curry and Satay tofu curry = exceptionally wonderful. I ate both 2-person portions in less than 12 hours. Yep. That good. And dirt cheap. You can feed a family of 4 for under € 30. That’s my kind of place. This spoiled, cheap American has found her go-to. I approve and endorse and will be back several times a week. #winning!

Great food & experience, the lady running the place is classic… :) Try the Malaysian curries, the hottest(you need to ask for hot) should be ok for people used to some heat… ;)

As a luch place, excellent. The waitress is really energetic and makes the place to have steady flow of people flowing through at lunch time. An experience, a good one. Food is also great and portions well sized.

Not perfect, not spectacular on the world stage, but great asian heat for Helsinki, and exactly what I was looking for. First, I admit, a whole star and a half goes to them for being actually spicy. Like really really hot. If you don’t like hot, or if you have already found your spot for a euphoric heat rush in the mild-fooded city of Helsinki, then this may not be such a fantastic find for you as it was for me. I, however, was delighted to get a chicken curry that sat a few steps beyond the edge of my comfort zone. I asked for hot, our waitress gave me a fair warning that hot means hot, and then she delivered my dish without the spicy paste mixed in, so I could pull the trigger myself. Aside from being shamelessly hot, it was tasty and(seemed) healthy. Our food came very fast, within 5 minutes of sitting down(we ordered at the door on our way in). Service was friendly and attentive, definitely not impatient, even after letting us know on our way in that they were already closing. My gf and I got the same dish(in mild and hot versions), with 2 pitchers of water, so I can’t give an informed review on the rest of their menu. What can I say, I’m a single-issue-voter tonight.
