My favorite hang-around in Helsinki. Started with Vorschsmack and had fried calf liver for main course. Did not let me down! Service more attentive than last visits. I like!

An unexpected treasure! After arriving in Helsinki and checking into our hotel around 8:30pm, we knew we would be lucky to find food on Monday. Imagine our surprise, that we exited our hotel and walked 40 feet and saw Karljohan. The woman who took care of us may have been the owner. The service and the food were exceptional and we were delighted with every aspect of our experience. The freshness of the ingredients and the interesting combinations were a treat for our palates. Having eating at several Michelin star restaurants, I have to agree with the previous reviewer that this place deserves some recognition. We had green salads — fresh and tasty. The nuts are a delightful addition and I loved the soft leafy lettuces. My boyfriend had the asparagus starter with Hollandaise and parmesan cheese, as well as the Goat Cheese main course, which was more of the Green Salad(though a much larger portion) as his entrees. I had the Fresh asparagus with roasted parsnip, dill potatoes and morel sauce as my entrée. All of the food was delightful. I would note than neither of us is a vegetarian but after a few days eating food that wasn’t as fresh and lovely as this, we were both craving quality veggies. I hope to be able to go back for another meal before we depart Helsinki. The Beef tenderloin steak with garlic potatoes and thyme sauce would be on top of my list to try and I would absolutely have the Green salad again as well as trying the Jerusalem artichoke soup with scallop and parmesan cheese. Yum. My mouth is already salivating at the thought!

Great food, exquisite presentation of the dishes and comfortable home like atmosphere. Most of the customers are locals. In my opinion this restaurant deserves a Michelin star, but the size of the portions are honest. Place is small and popular so make a reservation in advance.
