Mexi bar is a quite small bar near Sankt Hans Torv. It has a Mexican theme although I would say it looks more like Hawaian, but that’s not important. I have been quite many times there and what I can say from experience: don’t go on weekends. It tends to be super crowded and you will have to wait a long time to get a drink, you will not have a place to sit and when you re standing people will be pushing through from every side. On the other hand, on weekdays it is a very good place to be as it is nearly never empty, but not too crowded either. The drinks are ok. But if I was you I would double up the alcohol for a little bit more money as they tend to be very light. Usually you can do it for around 20dkk more. The crowd is very varying. You can see people with suits or you can see younger students. So no worries about dress codes or anything. On the downside, the toilet sometimes smells bad to the corridor. Has happened a couple of times. And the drinks as said tend to be very light, more like juices. But delicious juices! So I guess I will be going back but it will never be my favourite place to go. Worth trying at some point though!

If you are in a position where you require adult alcoholic beverages, and in the neighborhood, Mexibar is a pretty standard choice. They have alcoholic beverages on offer, and if you’re lucky, room enough for you to consume them once they’ve been made. We were a group of five who essentially had to crawl over people to get to the bar, but once we had our drinks in hand, the heavens shined down on us a completely empty table. #winning I might’ve been here on an off night, but there was an abnormally large population of expats(students?) there on Saturday night. Take that for what you will. but I didn’t consider it a particularly bad thing, as I myself am an expat. ;) Pro-tip: avoid the foo foo blended drinks with umbrellas in them that take an hour to make and order off-menu. We got double whiskey sours and they were very fairly priced for the quantity of alcohol in them.

though mexibar is only a 5 minute bike ride away from my flat, i only visit once or twice a year. the drink are cloyingly sweet for girls’ night out and the place is loud so you’ll have to yell. the bar is pretty small anyway so maybe you’ll end up standing outside. the bartenders do put some effort in, decorating your drinks with little umbrellas and cut fruit, taking care to sample every drink before it goes out. note that the drinks are weak, you’ll want to double shot it for 12kr. kitschy interior, humid enough to actually be mexico, but at 27 i feel too old to be here. on the plus side there is happy hour from 7 – 9:30 to get a second shot in your drink for free.

One of the few times that like Sergeant Murtaugh( ), I have felt too old for this s**t. It didn’t help that I had turned up at what was clearly a fairly young and happening bar, wearing a full on suit(not by choiceI had been on business earlier in the evening). I always feel extremely awkward in a suit and this was the perfect place to add to my discomfort. It was totally packed out on a Saturday night and was more of a shots and cocktails venue, so I don’t think I would have liked it even I hadn’t been mutton dressed as lamb. I could see how it has the potential place to start a big night out though so if you like busy places and don’t much like beer without a slice of lime in it, then this could be right up your street.
