The burger is excellent. Their homemade pilsner is also worth a try. And if you don’t like that beer there are 30 others to choose from.

We ate here on our first night in Copenhagen because it was right across the street from where we were staying. Inside it is a nice cozy little spot with a few good beers and a limited but tasty menu. We had the burger and fried prawns app. Both were good although my favorite were the fries that came with the burger.

They only served burgers when we were there(too late on a Sunday night I guess) but it was really good. The ambiance is very cosy.

Perfect(what we would call in the states) «bar steak». I have limited Danish menu word knowledge but I am pretty sure that cut is a filet mignon and also comes with what we would call«steak fries». Thick cut and chili mayo on the side without asking. Delicious! The veggie burger isn’t bad either and the staff is delightful!

Lugar agradable y buen trato con las camareras. Se puede comer y beber cerveza artesana a un precio asequible para la zona. Nice ambient, and good deal with the waitress. We can eat and drink craftbeer for a not expensive price in town.

Reviewed on the basis of a date where only a couple of beers were had. I will have to visit Gavlen again to try out the food. First impression was that Café Gavlen is a cozy and warm place, but at the same time one that might not leave you with too much of an impression afterwards. It looks like a lot of other places and I didn’t even notice the music until it was turned off for closing time. Plus points are given for not kicking us out, but letting us leave at out own pace. Sitting-wise, Gavlen has kinda high, narrow benches and low chairs, which made me(on the bench) kinda hover over my date. Lots of cozy lit candles gave it a nice atmosphere, though. What was kinda disappointing about Café Gavlen was that the beer taps were non-functional for some reason. No worries though, cause they have quite a good selection of bottled beers. These were kinda hard to see, though, cause the lights are very much dimmed(and I’m growing old and poor of sight). I took a chance and ordered a Leffe Blonde, which they of course had. Later we wanted weissbier, but they didn’t have it. The knowledgable bartender suggested an Icelandic Pale Ale instead, which was also quite good. All in all, Café Gavlen is an ok spot for a cozy beer!

Well the food is not so amazing in this place but the 4th star goes to the café because of its cosy atmosphere. They menu has burgers and all these classic café dishes. Nothing spectacular but it usually has friendly and good service and it’s mostly at least half full of people. Great place to sit outdoors as well if you re around the area and the weather allows it!

Order of operations(loosely): grab a menu, sit down, get back up and order at the bar, then pay. The draft beers are gorgeous. Ale No. 16 is my new fave. There’s an IPA and wheat beer on tap(it’s all a bit hazy now, so I can’t recall their names!) worth their salt as well. The bottled beer selection is global. Brooklyn Brewery fans should not be disappointed. As for the food, well, we spied the tastiest-looking burger this side of the Mississippi on someone’s table and had to order it. The hubs was more than impressed. The toppings consisted of bacon, cheese, thick slabs of red onion, a halved dill pickle slice, slices of juicy tomato, crispy lettuce and lots of mayo.(Ketchup and hot sauces available at the bar.) The fries were thick-cut and quite crispy on the outside. Apparently, this place does a brisk brunch trade. I’d imagine on Sunday when the brew pub down the street is closed that C.G. is bustling with biz. The few times we visited were during the week and once late on a Sunday. The joint was fairly full, but not overly crowded. –just how we like it.

I stumbled across Café Gavlen on a Thursday night walking around Sankt Hans Torv area and noticed that there was a healthy amount of clientele inside. Interested in going to places where«the people» go, I noted it as a place to try, and carried on. Finally came back for brunch. Not trying to be a snob here, but it’s certainly not the best brunch in Copenhagen(which can be found at Manfreds and Vin). It’s not horrible either, though. The service is a little confusing(could not figure out who was to take my order and not a single person on staff would make eye contact with anyone in the bar, so you generally felt like you were disturbing someone in order to eat or drink), but the coffee is good(once you get it). All in all, if you live in the area, and you need brunch, it scratches the itch just fine. Maybe someday I’ll be in the area and will try the dinner or adult beverages out of default. Will update accordingly if my mind is blown.
