Verandeh comes from a long tradition of London based Indian restaurants with exquisite, differentiated tasting experiences. Modern lounge style décor we felt immediately transported away from Copenhagen, not to India but to a high end gourmet experience, that Verandeh delivered. The seven course menu send to build up in terms of spicyness and the accompanying wine menu was well paired and selected. A first class experience that easily gives the two other eateries that make up The Standard a run for their money.

One of the best indian restaurants in Copenhagen, but I had expected more from both the service and food at this price level. Location is very good though, so overall 4 stars.

Verandah is one of the first restaurants in Copenhagen that tries to take the indian cuisine up to the exquisite standards. We’ve seen the same done with the Thai Cuisine(Restaurant Kiin Kiin) and the Japanese(Restaurant Umami). To start out with, all the dishes were perfectly prepared, our pre-dinner cocktails were to recommend as well(try the panacea cocktail with ginger, lemon and smoky scotch). Everything on the menu tasted great, and our experience here was really good. However, I can’t help the fact that I find this restaurant a tad pretentious. Their take on the indian cuisine is good, but with prices such as 500 kr for a menu(without drinks) they’re charging an awful lot for papadums, curry and cheesecake for dessert. Don’t get me wrong, it tasted good, but I’ve had a similar taste experience at my old favorite pakistani take-out at amagerbro(which is also a pretty good place), in a much more affordable price range. It also seems pretentious to serve guests and recommend them to drink red wine with food which doesn’t exactly increase the taste of the wine, but rather degrades it(kardamom & coriander makes most red wines taste metallic). I also thought the atmosphere(kinda quiet, guest sitting miles apart from each other) was a tad pretentious, something I haven’t experienced a lot in Danish restaurant, but tend to be more of a norm abroad. What you pay for, and should get, when you’re in this price-range of restaurants is eclecticism. I tasted great Indian Food, but nothing beyond that. Great Indian Food is not worth that much in my opinion. If you have the craving, and the fat wallet, then go here. But from a cost-benefit point of view, it’s not worth it.
