Christiania

I can see why so many people feel an affinity with this space, but it was a bit much for me, to be honest. I really like the idea of it, and once I was inside felt comfortable and safe. The area just outside was probably my least favourite part of Copenhagen, though.
To be honest, if you don’t smoke pot, I don’t think there’s a big draw here. I don’t smoke and while I enjoyed seeing the dealers selling hidden yet out in the open, and people all just hanging out being relaxed is always nice, I could take it or leave it.
We had an ice cream, wandered around, looked out over the water, and were definitely ready to leave.
If you’re a bit straitlaced and boring like me, it’s worth seeing, but not worth a special trip.

Yeah, you can buy weed out in the open here, but that is definitely not why I like this area.
It’s a commune that is both beautiful and a little ugly in some parts, made up of a creative collective. Admiring the houses that they have built is reason enough to come by, though one should be respectful and remember that people actually live there. There is even a house available to foreign artists and academics who wish to conduct research involving the area, called Christiania Researcher In Residence (
). They often hold art shows or some other sort of exhibition during their stay. And then sitting out in the green strip by the water in the spring and summer can be very peaceful even though Christiania is normally noisy.
Back in the ‘downtown’ area, there are quite a few venues for concerts or art shows which don’t often sit empty; there is something going on all the time. Everything from public lectures at the recurring Science & Cocktails to photo exhibitions at Gallopperiet to live music at Operaen. After that, one can get a bite to eat at vegetarian-​friendly Spiseloppen or Morgenstedet, among many others. As for safety, you should be fine unless you break the rules which are displayed in many places. Maybe don’t walk down Pusher Street with a huge DSLR hanging around your neck.
Christiania is about a lot more than just smoking a joint with friends and getting a slice of dream cake from Sunshine Bakery. But of course there’s that too. Take advantage of the many offerings of this free town and respect the residents.

Well worth a visit to this Amsterdam of Copenhagen weedville and park area with hills and water views in Copenhagen. An interesting cultural experience to see how the Danes have created a space for legal marijuana purchase, smoking and edibles. Not my thing, I’m high on life, but interesting nontheless. Peeps hang out here. You’re not supposed to take photos or run. Don’t harsh on peeps’ mellow. I still think drugs are bad, but if you want an edgy Copenhagen experience, here you are.

Christiana was a really incredible place to visit and explore. I’ve never quite been anywhere like it — a free state in the middle of a city where there are no cars or motorised vehicles. Only bikes and foot traffic are allowed. It’s based around the canal and there are a few cafes and restaurants in the city. There’s also an area in the middle which seems somewhat dodgy… but I believe a blind eye is turned. Overall it was a really great experience and it stretches on for much longer than I realised. It was really great to see and explore and well worth a visit.

As soon as I mentioned I was going to Copenhagen to friends their first words of advice were ‘you must visit Christiania’ followed by warnings of you mustn’t take pictures (not that I’m known for it!), you must be careful not to run, its popular for selling weed… Tbh it kind of scared me so I googled it!
Christinia (aka Freetown Christiania) is a large commune in the borough of Christianshavn. Springing up after the military abandoned their barracks in the 1980’s, Christiania quickly developed from a squatter residency to a hippie movement. The area is regulated by a special law (Christiania Law of 1989) and is famously known for its cannibis trade.
After reading this on Wikipedia and my friends reiterating it my friend and I very cautiously approached Christiania during our weekend there in April. To say we were nervous was an understatement and we briskly began to walk through.
It is actually a very chilled place however also very quiet, even on a weekend, which was quite unnerving. Some of the buildings are lovely — quirky designs and lots of colourful graffiti but there is also a lot of rubbish and run down buildings which just make it seem a bit sad. We entered through the residential area but quickly arrived at the Green Light District where there are plenty of stalls with masked men selling weed. Although daunting they are protecting themselves but it did make me feel uneasy. There were also a few bars and cafes but we weren’t brave enough to stop.
As we left we breathed a huge sigh of relief (yay we survived) — this is not the place for me but interesting nonetheless and as a major attraction in Copenhagen is worth a visit if you have the time. The strangest place and utterly bizarre!
Remember: The 3 rules in Christiania are no photos, don’t run and have fun.

Pretty excellent spot to get a drink and see the alt culture, but leftist progressive art in Denmark is like having a cause to fight for in your DNA. Which is not a bad thing. I have hung out with many Russians, and had a good time here with new friends. It’s like anything else, the policies of the political class, Clinton and Putin’s corrupt interests, fight against each other at everyone else’s expense. But at least they talk about it openly here.

Very interesting place for sure! It is weird and fascinating at the same time as you get to enter a free zone/​land self proclamed located in the center of Copenhagen. A city inside the city where about 800 people is living. While crossing the green district (It is in fact, just a bunch of weed stands sold by guys in camouflage clothes and with their faces covered.)
It was a bit creepy being surrounded in a place like this for me as i do not smoke and i don’t understand a thing about it but in the same time is quite relaxing to be in a open place withba beautiful lake on the back, where young, old, locals, tourists, consumers, watchers and curious are just hanging around and enjoyed their day. People just mind their own business there and strolling around this «ghetto» is quite inspiring as so many people, so different after all, are just getting along without any hostility. Hippy much? Nevertheless a must visit in Copenhagen.

De lo más famoso y más descriptivo de Copenhague. Es una zona muy amplia con un montón de locales de ambiente moderno y rastafari. Es un lujo tomarse una cerveza junto al lago charlando o paseando por caminos rodeados de árboles.
Eso sí. La venta «oficial» de cannabis o hachís hace que Christania parece un semillero de drogas, un mercadillo de venta de estupefacientes y alucinógenos. Lástima que de esa impresión porque el recinto, que está fuera de la Unión Europea, es un espacio magnifico para descansar, ir a un concierto o a una charla informativa. El carácter reivindicativo continúa desde que se fundó, pero la venta de drogas se ha hecho un hueco considerable.

One of the great philosophical questions is: where does a hippy utopia end and a grotty dump start? You will find the answer to that question on your visit.
It’s a fascinating place, little oases of hippy chic (colourful murals, cute houses, etc) interspersed by chaos and mess.
One of the highlights is spotting some of the really great signs. My personal highlight as a fan of the film ‘Withnail and I’ was spotting a guy that looked identical to the dealer in the film, I wonder what he was selling on his stall.

This place is super cool! It’s a «free town» in the middle of Copenhagen, and they have their own laws, government, etc., and the only Denmark-​borrowed aspect is the healthcare system. Definitely worth a visit, and it’s not too difficult to get here by public transportation! There are no photo signs everywhere though, because as they have their own laws, they have legalized drugs here. Our tour guide told us that the police are sometimes stationed outside to catch people, because the drugs aren’t legal in Copenhagen. Cool place to see, definitely come check it out!

We took what can only be called «a brisk walk» through Christiania and totally got its flavor! A cute interlude in tourist activities, it is a bit overhyped and rather messy/​dirty. But it’s also a major attraction of Copenhagen, so go and see it.

Christiania is like Burning Man without the VC money.
It’s an amazing part of Copenhagen. No legal rules really pertain here. I had a fun time exploring Christiania. The people were very nice and welcoming. I highly recommend coming here.

My boyfriend and I were walking in this area and I saw a dragon sign! I told him we have to go in here, we did not expect what was in the future.
Our hotel concierge told us to come here but no pictures were allowed, i thought it was because this was a rich neighborhood and they did’t want any photos.
This place is like fairytale land gone bad. You will will see people in ski masks and alot of drugs being used. I felt scared at first, but everyone was super chill (for obvious reasons). I believe this a giant social experiment and it is working.
I won’t go into detail, this is a place you must experience!

Wow! What a unique place in Copenhagen. If you like weed, you can buy and use it here — openly. For me who doesn’t do it I can eat food and drink beer, and look at people at the same time. You will find all sorts of people here — young and old! Love the atmosphere. Kind and warm. A must thing to do when in Copenhagen.

i just went to visit christiana community in copenhagen, it was my lucky day they had a concert at NEMOLAMD of hip hop, reggae, and good vibes …
the crowd is great, having fun, minding their owns business, smoking a lot of weeds, families and kids walking around, just a free world where nobody hurts nobody. i bought some drinks, they have cleanest bathroom than many new york city clubs, etc., how do i know i used it and i was impressed by the degree of that organization .
very cool people who won’t hesitate to share a long joint of ganja with you.

As a student visiting Copenhagen, Christiania is an awesome visit. Its conveniently located right over the bridge to Christianshavn from Copenhagen. The town has a strong hippie/​reggae feel to it but is very welcoming and comfortable. Upon entrance you will notice all of the art work on the walls, a skate park, market, and recreational drugs (if thats your cup of tea).
I definitely suggest visiting if you have the time.

What an amazing, beautiful, freethinking utopia. I immediately felt at ease here. I could have spent the entire day just hangin out, catchin good vibes, chattin up cool dudes…
Around every corner there was a new surprise. The perfect place for a hardcore sunday funday. I often exercise caution when diving head first into a new subculture because It usually doesn’t take long To start seeing the dark side. Sure I saw some teens give each other Knuckles because they spent their communion money to party. So what. Why would I care? That’s why I like it here. No nonsense. I would like to come back. Often.

Very interesting place. I wish there was more of this around the world. I felt like I was invading people’s lives though, so I didn’t go too far, and didn’t stay too long. Definitely worth a visit.

Unless you’re going to buy and smoke pot, there’s really no reason to come to this sketchy, kind of depressing small community. Some of the properties are well kept with lovely gardens but one can’t help but feel like you’re intruding on private lives. There’s Peddler Street where no photography is allowed but you can purchase pot, bongs and pipes here as well as cliched Bob Marley shirts. There are a couple bars and restaurants but they look less than appealing. What ever your opinion is, you may enjoy this but it just wasn’t for me.

This place is super strange, but definitely a place to see. Its got bars and cafes, but due to the time constraint we were on we didnt get a chance to try any.
Imagine a post apocalyptic safe haven for refugees of some foreign war, but everyone is super friendly. (They are also weed friendly for anyone who is wondering)
Definitely somewhere to take a walk around and see!

It’s a great place to go on your bike, you can do a loop around the lake and enjoy the quiet car free roads.

Truly as good as it gets. Utopia. For the visitor there are plenty of bars and cafes as well as some shops. One of my favorite spots in Christiania is corner where you can drop off clothes you don’t wear anymore and pick up clothes other people dropped off. This idea is amazing because we tend to waste so much while there is no need to.
Christiania is situated in a beautiful green area by the river, and a walk around is just lovely. You can see houses cute and quirky all around. And from the town’s website: «Christiania’s self-​management is built on [sic], that every individual has a responsibility for his/​her own life and his/​hers home.
The resident’s in an area have a common responsibility for the area’s development and condition.»
The Danish government’s been picking fights with this peaceful community but instead we all should be learning from them. Christiania is what democracy looks like.

Free state Christiania, a hippie commune with an anarchic spirit… but no photos are allowed! Being a true anarchist I of course took photos.
Christiania is a pretty part of town with some sights which do admittedly look post-​apocalyptic. The canal runs to the end of Christiania and there are some interesting examples of architecture sans architects.
It is testiment of man’s ability to defy the state and return to real, unimagined communities which do not resemble nations but where people actually know one another in a specific geographical area.
Most food here is organic and from sustainable resources. There is a lot of veggie food on offer. Art is all around, in the form of grafitti, There is a lot of ‘erb.
I have heard that in recent years crime rates in Christiania have increased, but it was built with the best intentions. I will be back to try out the all-​natural sauna and potentially enjoy the night life.

Former military base but ironically taken over by a community of anarchists who are very free-​willed and hippie-​esque. Not so artsy and crafty cool like Haight, not grunge and semi-​sketch like Little Five. My mom would probably call this the home of delinquents, some of my acquiantances would call this heaven, my friends would like the bar and music scene. An air of unease permeates the place (or is it just paranoid me?).
I think Christiania is a hard place to describe, and perhaps even its inhabitants would say so too. If there is a place on earth run by anarchy, this is the closest you’d get to it and it’s fascinating because you realize that even anarchy demands it’s own rules to survive.
These are the famous «9 Rules» that you must follow.
No weapons
No hard drugs
No violence
No private cars
No biker’s colors
No bulletproof clothing
No sale of fireworks
No use of thundersticks (noise makers)
No stolen goods
They forgot one — absolutely no flashlights at night, even though there are no lights once you get out of central Christiania — those are reserved for police. We got some of the gangs to follow us and it was kind of alarming. Just don’t do it.
I’ll add another one– absolutely no photography near the central part of Christiania, where you’ll find Pusherstreet, or the Green Light District. If you must, try to do so discreetly, and avoid people and goodness forbid a drug deal taking place because you will get your ass kicked. I felt a little tingly just looking at some of the people here — like the hair on the back of my neck rising, and my teeth on edge. Seriously, no joke. Pictures. Do this discreetly.
Other than that, the park here is quite serene. Sometimes I liked to sit here and listen to Bronte by Gotye by the waterfront.

This place is the coolest «touristy» attraction that is in Copenhagen. If you haven’t heard about it I will quickly summarize:
This is a city inside Copenhagen, but they are completely independent. After the militaries moved out of here a few «hippies» came to the place and started a community. Basically everything sold here (including mariajuana) is to help support their own expenses and etc.
Even though it’s a «free city», and they have their own rules (No running, no photos being the most important ones). If you like street art this is a treat, a lot of interesting murals and cool places to check out.
You may be curious to understand the flag (which is red with three yellow dots). The colors were supposedly chosen because there was a lot of red and yellow paint, left from the original squatters.

One of the strangest sites you will see on your trip to Copenhagen and certainly worth a wee wander around and a beer at the bar.
This «commune» now looks a bit more like little Amsterdam with no cops to me but it is an interesting experience. Not sure how it is all left alone by the police, but it seems to be left to its own devices and nobody seems worried.
Basically a big garden area with various graffitied buildings, burning barrels, stalls selling jewellery, dogs running wild, artists and drug dealers. It all comes to a central point where you can sit and drink beers from the bar and even get a bite to eat. You will be surrounded by a mixture of tourists, local Danes sneaking out from normal life, hip hop fans and hippies. Many of them will be smoking something that they have just bought from one of the local drug dealers, whilst they listen to rap music from nearby speakers.
To be honest I thought the place was a bit seedy and dodgy rather than a centre for a gathering of people from counter culture. Still you should take a look, but during the day would be my recommendation.

As a tourist it’s a must. You have never seen a place like this. And I really don’t mean just the pusher street. I mean the whole society.
Christiania is a fully or let’s say almost fully equipped society. There is a school for the kids, a doctor, bakery, cafeterias, restaurants, cinema, bars, concerts, events, nature, sauna and probably much more I don’t know about. The houses are very interesting and are worth taking a look at.
Just remember not to take pictures there as it is forbidden and you might get some angry shouts. Usually people know about the no picture policy but I have seen some incidents with tourists and Christiania people getting very angry.
I myself usually go for the concerts and for the science and cocktails events. It is held in their cinema and is usually on Tuesdays. You can find a Facebook page which indicates the themes and dates. Summer time it is also great to go there as people sit around, have beers and everything is so chill.
I would definitely have Christiania as one of the top 5 things to see in Copenhagen.

What started as a social experiment back in 1971 has now become one of the most popular tourist attractions in Denmark.
Christiana is a society within a society: they pay rent to the community and the state for water and electricity. The people have great freedom of expression — artistic and otherwise — and you can find artsy/​quirky wares for sale here from t-​shirts, jewelry, beanies, smoking paraphernalia, etc.
After you’ve passed through the residential houses and open air cafes, you’ll come across the Green Light district. Three rules to live by here: absolutely NO PHOTOS, don’t run and have fun! I now understand when they say that the Danes are very open minded and tolerable people, because right here, are numerous make-​shift stalls where you can buy pot, hash and other soft drugs. Legally? who knows. Amsterdam ain’t got nothin on Copenhagen.
My friend and I thought since we’re here, we might as well uh, support the local economy. We were both new to the «trade», so we decided this would be our own social experiment. My uptight little Virgo self didn’t wanna give in, but then we found … space cookies. These kind were more the crispy but still taste fresh even after two days. After chatting up someone for advice on how much quantity to consume to get the desired effect, the guy looked at us funny and said «wait, you’re from California, you guys invented 420. Uh … riiiiight»
My conclusion from this social experiment? it’s cheaper to get a buzz here than getting drunk at a bar.
So, 3 stars for the experience but it really isn’t my thing. Plus, I prefer my cookies a bit more chewy.

Faire un tour dans Christiania, c’est comme entrer dans un univers parallèle dont on n’aurait pas idée en plein milieu de Copenhague. Cette société parmi la société, bien que hautement controversée, reste un passage obligé lors d’un séjour dans la capitale danoise.
Il y règne une atmosphère tellement particulière…
Est-​ce la multitude de tags présents sur quasiment tous les murs? est-​ce le chanteur folk tendance hippie qui chante Hotel California à la guitare? est-​ce la concentration impressionnante de «loulous» (comprenez jeunes hommes que je n’aimerais pas croiser à un coin de rue désert vers onze heures du soir) au kilomètre carré?
Mmm… Je crois que ça vient surtout de la vente en plein air sur des petites tables façon brocante du dimanche (non non je n’exagère pas) de marijuana sous toutes ses formes. Bien évidemment, sa consommation n’est pas du tout prohibée dans ce village dont Bob Marley aurait pu être le digne ambassadeur.
Christiania aurait donc pu être très glauque. Mais né l’est pas. Je la trouve pleine de couleurs, d’odeurs (c’est le cas de le dire), de musiques de rue… Les gens y viennent pour passer un bon moment avec leurs amis ou comme moi par curiosité.
Christiania est tellement atypique qu’elle demeure un coin incontournable à visiter dans la région de Copenhague.

Super zum entspannen, im Sommer coole Partys, nette Leute wenn man sich an die regeln hält

Bei zwei Besuchen in Kopenhagen war Christiania beide Male Pflichtprogramm. Klar, einerseits der Hashmarket, der jeden geneigten Pothead träumen lässt, andererseits aber auch (das hier oftmals kritisierte, weil nicht vorhandene) Kulturprogramm. Das gibt es nämlich. Nicht immer, aber immer mal wieder. Und zwar in einer Form, die mir gefällt. Das heißt wenig organisiert, viel spontan Inszeniertes, viele Herumtreiber, die einfach mal die Pois oder Devilsticks auspacken, die Gitarre oder die Bongo oder das Didgeridoo auspacken und loslegen.
Für mich ein kleiner Urlaub im Urlaub, denn einfach mal am Wasser liegen und zu chillen ist in einer SAUBEREN und ORDENTLICHEN Großstadt leider keine Selbstverständlichkeit mehr. Von daher ist es schon alternativ, wenn auch nicht irgendwie ideologisch verbrämt. Wenn der Drogen-​konsum der kleinste gemeinsame Nenner ist, dann ist mir das recht, denn ich bin hier nicht dumm angemacht worden, nicht bedroht und nicht ausgeraubt worden. Und das, obwohl ein Großteil der Leute um mich rum total dicht waren.
Vielleicht mal doch ein Argument FÜR eine totale Illegalisierung von Alkohol ;) Sicher, architektonisch toll ist es hier nicht. Die Gastro ist auch nicht der Rede wert. Aber der Spirit stimmt noch, und dass hoffentlich noch lange. Legalize it!

Komisch, ich bin sicher, ich hatte bei Qype 5* gegeben, da ist wohl bei der Übertragung etwas schief gegangen!
Mein Reisetipp vorweg für alle Lübecker (oder Bielefelder) wenn ihr die Walli mögt, werdet ihr Christiania lieben. Wenn ihr die Walli hasst, könnte es sein, dass ihr Christiania auch hasst, aber, wir ich durch meinen Begleiter live erlebt habe, es kann durchaus sein, dass ihr euch trotzdem dort wohl fühlt. (als Bielefelder bitte synchron für Walli Ajo einsetzen). Das gilt für die Optik und den allgemeinen Stil, inhaltlich sollte man schon eine ordentliche Portin Toleranz gegenüber weichen Drogen an den Tag legen, denn hier wird gekifft, was das Zeug hält und zwar (im Gegensatz zu deutschen Jugendzentren) sehr öffentlich.
Christiania ist etwas ganz Eigenes. Ein Staat im Staat, auch wenn dessen Rechte nicht ordnungsgemäß anerkannt sind, in dem idealistische Aussteiger ihren Traum einer basisdemokratischen Regierung zu leben versuchten. Soweit die Theorie, und die habe ich in der Schule gelernt, als meine damalige WiPo-​Lehrerin uns in etwas unorthodoxem Stil versuchte, am Beispiel Christiania die Grundregeln der Demokratie zu erörtern. (Vielen Dank an Frau A., Sie haben durch Ihren Versuch, auf dem Dorf etwas alternatives Gedankengut an den Schüler zu bringen, viele interessante Impulse in mein Leben gebracht) Schon als Schülerin fragte ich mich, wie dieser Freistaat funktionieren soll, und nun konnte ich mit bei einem Kopenhagenbesuch selbst ein Bild davon machen. Mit war schon bewusst, dass der einstige Ort des alternativen Lebensstils inzwischen mehr zu einem Anlaufpunkt für Touristen, Kaputte und funorientierte Kids geworden ist.
Daher habe ich nicht viel erwartet, als wir nach einem ausgiebigen Orientierungslauf durch Christianshavn (wobei wir feststellten, dass ein Besuch dieses Stadtteils sich auch so schon definitiv lohnt) endlich einen Eingang des Freistaates gefunden haben. Ein altes Kasernengelände, eine Mischung aus buntem Hausbesetzerstyle, netten Grünanlagen mit Sport– und Spielplätzen, Kunstinstallationen und holzhäuserner Schrebergartenidylle und darin ein bunter Mix aus Aussteigertypen und Althippies, breiten Kids in Gangstahosen, internationalem Volk aller Art und Farbe aber vorzugsweise (pseudo)jamaikanisch angehaucht, neugierigen Touristen und der hedonistischen internationalen Jugend (zu einer der letzten Gruppen würden wir uns dann zuordnen) — das hat uns erstmal geflasht, um es mal im Jargon der bekifften Jugend zu sagen eine schönere Umscheibung fällt mir auch gerade nicht ein.
Erst später stellten wir fest, wir groß dieser Stadtteil war. Hier gab es alles, ruhige Plätze im Grünen am See, belebte Dorfplätze” mit Musik und alternativer (aber leider trotzdem teurer) Gastronomie, favela-​ähnliche Hinterhöfe und schicke Holzhäuschen, einen Markt für den üblichen Goa-​Hippie-​Kiffer Accessoires (nicht wirklich lohnenswert) und einen mit diversem Pflanzlichem, welches man eher in Holland denn in Dänemark erwarten würde (muss man mal gesehen haben). Es gibt sogar einen eigenen Baumarkt, eine Fahrradwerkstadt mit –verleih und einen Kinderspielplatz.
Mein Tipp, da Fotos hier nicht erwünscht sind, was ich auch respektiere (ein paar am Rande habe ich trotzdem geschossen): Kauft euch ein Christiania Bier (Bio, lecker, ähnlich wie Pinkus und mit ca 2EUR umgerechnet auch für örtliche Gegebenheiten bezahlbar) oder raucht was wenn ihr nicht drauf verzichten könnt, macht es euch irgendwo gemütlich und lasst das Leben und Treiben hier einfach auf euch wirken. Ich mag es hier, sehr sogar, ich kann verstehen, dass es nicht jedermanns Sache ist, aber mir gefällts. Das Museum habe ich aufgrund der Öffnungszeiten leider nicht besichtigt, Führungen gibt es auch, aber führt euch lieber selbst, meinich. Richtig tolles verkäufliches Kunsthandwerk hab ich leider nicht gefunden (da, wo ich war). Über den politischen Ablauf hier kann ich derzeit nichts sagen, mein Schulstoff ist 10 Jahre alt, aber scheinbar wird der Freistaat immer noch von der Regierung Dänemarks kontrolliert und verwaltet sich ein Stück weit selber. Vielleicht zeihe ich mal ein Jahr dort ein, wenn ich von der zivilisierten Gesellschaft die Nase voll hab, dann erzähle ich mehr :)
Auch wenn es zum Flanieren und Shoppen sicher kein geeigneter Ort ist, wird Christiania auf jeden Fall ein Muss auf unserem nächsten Dänemarkbesuch besonders gern würde ich hier auch mal ein Musikfestival erleben, wenn sowas hin und wieder mal stattfinden (Bühne ist ja vorhanden) das wäre ein Traum, glaub ich!
Wollen wir hoffen, dass dieser Ort noch lange Bestand hat im augenscheinlich sehr liberalen Dänemark

Wir, 3 Mädels, waren letztes WE auch in Christiania. Wir waren froh, dieses heruntergekommene Fleckchen Erde schnell wieder verlassen zu können.
Meine Freundin packte ihre Kamera aus, um den Turm einer Kirche ausserhalb des Geländes fotografieren zu können, sofort hörten wir ein’No photo!’. Nicht irgendwie freundlich (Verbotsschilder hatten wir noch keine gesehen, wir waren noch ganz am Anfang unserer Tour). Auf dem Marktplatz überall Haschverkäufer und Kiffer, gepaart mit seltsamen Gestalten, die eher an die rechte, denn an die linke Szene erinnerten (Stiefel, Glatzkopf, Bomberjacke und Kampfhund an der Leine). Besonders herzlich empfanden wir die aufgehangen länglichen Papierteller für Würstchen mit Stinkefinger drauf und Slogans wie ‘Nicht-​Christianier hier nicht…’. Ganz klar, als Aussenstehender soll man seinen Stoff kaufen, vielleicht noch ein, zwei Bierchen konsumieren und dann bitte schnell wieder abhauen. Angeblich soll es auf dem Gelände auch einen Kindergarten geben. Ein Besuch auf dem Marktplatz ist bestimmt hoch pädagogisch.

Einer der Höhepunkte meines Kopenhagen-​Wochenendtrips letzten Spätsommer war der Abend in Christiania. Ich fand es weit weniger befremdlich als andere Kommentatoren hier — gut, es wird Gras verkauft und konsumiert, aber zumindest der Konsum ist in Hamburg St. Pauli auch nicht unauffälliger.
Es gibt so eine Art Marktplatz wo man an kleinen Ständen Krams erwerben kann (Andenken, Bongs, Pali-​Tücher, Snacks…). Sehr cool sind natürlich die Christiania-​Bikes, die dreirädrig sind und vorne einen Kasten für Einkäufe, Kinder usw. haben.
Die Bar, in der wir eingekehrt waren, hatte Bier zu verblüffend günstigen Preisen (Alkohol ist in Dänemark ja sonst generell sehr teuer). Die Menschen waren fröhlich und entspannt, die Läden weniger alternativ als ich erwartet hatte (Bezahlen mit EC– oder Kreditkarte ist dort z. B. ganz normal). Die Bar mit dem Aquarium an der Decke von der Toilette ist echt nett!
Wenn ich mal wieder in Kopenhagen bin mache ich auf jeden Fall wieder einen Abstecher nach Christiania.

Christiania bringt anscheinend sehr deutlich auseinander gehende Empfindungen hervor.
Wir sind diesen Sommer per Fahrrad nach Kopenhagen gefahren und da durfte ein Abstecher nach Christiania natürlich nicht fehlen. Ich wurde noch nie so sehr von einer viel-​beschrieenen Touristenattraktion enttäuscht. Was ist daran noch Hippie? Dort laufen nur ein paar abgewrackte Typen rum — anscheinend der Großteil völlig stoned, die Gebäude sind abruchreif, überall liegt Schutt und Müll, Hunde streunen herum und zwischendurch gibts mal irgendwelche Verkaufsstände mit hässlichen Copyshop-​Pullis «save Christiania» (oder so ähnlich).
Ganz ehrlich– spart euch die Fahrt und geht hier in Berlin mal ein bisschen durch die besetzen Häuser oder Wagenburgen schlendern — ähnliches Feeling, nur weniger Müll.

ich kann mich den Vorschreibern leider nich anschließen. Wir waren ca. 3 Tage dort (mit übernachten im Zelt) und unser Eindruck war ein anderer.
Natürlich vorne, wo das «Zentrum «ist, stapelten sich mehr Leute und es waren natürlich auch Dealer da, aber der vordere Platz ist ja nur der Anfang.
Christiania erstreckt sich auch noch weiter am Fluß entlang, wo man ca eine Stunde auf verschlungenen Pfaden entlangwandern kann und immer neue Häuser entdeckt.
Auch solsche aus Backsteinen, mit Steingärten, architektonisch «anspruchsvolle, und ja, auch ein paar Zerfallene. Sind halt selbstgebaut.
Von den Anwohnern selbst hatte ich eher den Eindruck, dass sie eher unter sich bleiben wollen und die Touristen/​besucher lieber auf der Pusher Street (dem Marktplatz sehen).
Dort muss ich noch die Toiletten der Bar hervorheben, wenn man in der Toilette an die Decke schaut, sieht man ein Aquarium… da schwimmen Goldfische drin rum. Ansonsten gibt es teilweise echt großartige Graffitis zu sehen und auch der kleine Laden hat seine Waren angerichtet, als ob jemand davon ein Stilleben malen wöllte.
Es finden auf der linken Seite von der Pusher Street auch Ausstellungen und kOnzerte stat. Auf der rechten Seite des Marktplatzes ist ein rotes Haus, wenn man dort durch die Tür geht, findet man sich auf einmal am Rand einer Skatebowl wieder (kydneyform).
Eigentlich wurde das Haus um die Bowl herumgebaut. Auf dem Markt kann man sich «Souvenire» kaufen. naja, jedem das Seine, aber ich empfehle mal mit den Leuten die dort Leben ins Gespräch zu kommen und sich von denen ein bisschen was zur Geschichte erzählen zu lassen.
Ich empfehle einen Besuch immer wieder, vor allem, wenn man mal was anderes Kennenlernen will.
(in der Nähe gibt es wohl auch einen Park, in dem gezeltet werden darf)

also für mich persönlich war der besuch in christiania viel interessanter als der abstecher zur kleinen meerjungfrau. dieses alternative projekt, also hauptsächlich eine wohnwagensiedlung, ist wirklich interessant. es gibt né menge bunter häuser und zäune und als münchener kann man es irgendwie mit einem 365tagetollwood vergleichen. der drogenhandel wird alle paar monate von der polizei aufgemischt, da der seit kurzem nicht mehr vom staat dänemark toleriert wird. ein paar tage später kann man dann schon wieder fertig gedrehte joints oder gras in großen mengen (man sollte die herren nicht fragen, warum da né offene tafel schokolade liegt) in der pusher street kaufen. die fand ich dann persönlich doch schon etwas zu krass. drogen in kleinen schaustellerwägen zu vertreiben ist halt nicht jedermanns sache.
schön an christiania sind die vielen konzerte. und es ist halt faszinierend wie sich mitten in einer so reichen stadt ein solches projekt halten kann.

Ich war diesen Sommer dort und finde schon, dass man es gesehen haben muss. Sehr schräge Ecke, lockeres Leben, abgefahren mit einem leichten Hang zum «abgefuckt»…lach…
Nein, echt verrückt — Drogen und deren Zubehör werden öffentlich verkauft, angeboten und ebenso konsumiert. Ein «freies» Viertel in dem die Gesetmäßigkeit anders tickt. Ich war schon froh einen starken Mann an meiner Seite zu haben, denn obwohl alles friedlich war, fühlte ich mich recht irretiert durch die komplett zugedröhnten Menschen die sich dort aufhielten.
Aber — jedem das Seine…
Abgesehen davon gibt es dort — speziell im Sommer — nette Märkte, Open-​Air-​Veranstaltungen und doch allerhand freie Kunst. Viele Graffitis, schöné «Biergärten» und buntes Treiben. Ich habe heimlich ein paar tolle Graffitis photografiert. Ist eigentlich verboten — also, vorsicht!!! No pictures!!!
Ich werde nächstes Jahr bestimmt wieder dort ein Bier trinken gehen, es ist einfach richtig schön schräg dort ;-)

Der «Freistaat Christiana» ist ein überschaubarer Bereich in Christianshavn, in dem Hippies (früher) und zahlreiche schräge Gestalten (heute) eine Heimat verab spiesbürgerlicher Normen und Regeln gefunden haben.
Persönlich würde ich es jedoch eher als eine Ansammlung abrisswürdiger Gebäudereste gepaart mit seltsamsten Auswüchsen von «Kunst» und «Kultur» bezeichnen und es unter der Rubrik «Muss man wirklich nicht gesehen haben» einsortieren.
Aber wer auf Lagerfeuer in alten Metalltonnen, im Hippie-​Stil kunterbunt bemahlte und sehr deutlich verfallende Gebäude steht, mag sich dort wohlfühlen.
