As soon as I stepped into this place, it reminded me of Japan. The waiter was very friendly and we were greeted by nearly all the staff in the restaurant. It is by far one of the most authentic Japanese food experiences I have had in Copenhagen in over the past 10 years. We ordered the gyoza: chicken dumpling, which was a little too crisp on one side and my only minor complaint; moriawase sashimi and the sake teriyaki. Fantastic presentation, delectable fish and amazingly fresh ingredients used for the miso soup and pickles. Warm sake and a ginger beer to top it off. Highly recommend if you are ever looking for a piece of Nippon in CPH.

Bento is SUPER authentic and our waiter, on the older side, was a riot. The service here is above average, related to Danish standards. The environment is cozy, the home made ginger beer was fun and the Mixed Sashimi plate was awesome. Each piece of fish just melted in your mouth and rice and miso soup were included, all for 350DKK. You also get a small green teas and free edamame right when you sit down. The place is clean and quaint and I would go back in a heart beat. I also like it way more than Issa just up the road. The only reason this place is 4 stars and not 5 for me is that I really wanted the Mochi and red bean paste desert and they didn’t have it.

Great food and very friendly service! Authentic Japanese food. The restaurant is small with a rustic ambience.

Good food but expensive and NO sushi… they stopped making sushi a year or so ago as they have many sushi restaurants in Copenhagen and they said they wanted to do something different. But they do have sashimi(100kr for 5 small pieces) and bento(250kr) so we went to Selfish for sushi!

One and half month after returning home from a short vacation in Japan, I still find myself thinking about those gorgeous and super delicious food I had there. What a girl gotta do then? Go to Bento for a fix! Bento is one of the most authentic Japanese restaurants in Copenhagen. If you’re craving for Japanese food done in the«right way», you go to this family-owned restaurant. They have two sets of menu, the lunch and the dinner menu. The lunch is more varied with noodle soups and other stuff on the menu and the price is also cheaper than the dinner, while dinner is special. I have been to both lunch and dinner service and they’re both excellent in terms of service. Don’t expect the usual indifferent service you’ll find in most Danish cafes and restaurants, here — you’ll get service the Japanese way and that means a good thing. The last time I was here to celebrate a friend’s birthday, I got the tonkatsu set dinner and a tuna sashimi set that were very very good although my eyes kept wandering to my friend’s dinner consisted of delicate sashimi neatly arranged in a serving«boat». Next time, I told myself and yes — there will always be a next time. Downside? It’s pricey, but it’s well worth it.

Went to Bento based on the positive reviews. I like the décor of the small restaurant and the family feeling from the old man and women. The menu I could a bit confusing and not much help from the waiter. The edamame beans was cold and really boring. Okay they are free but why bother serving them if they don’t taste good. We had the dumplings that was very delicious. Then we went for the tuna sashimi. The tuna was surely good quality and the plate looked beautiful but the fish was very cold really a shame. Next was the pork teishoku. The pork tasted good but 250 kr just seem expensive for what you are getting. Overall okay food but does not live up to the high reviews in my opinion.

Top-notch service and food in a relaxing atmosphere. Only negative(and reason for the 4 stars) would be that the prices are definitely on the high end, making this more of a special-occasion place rather than a regular spot. Note that they no longer serve sushi, just sashimi. Personally, I find that refreshing. The fish shines a lot more when not stuck on a chunk of rice. The main waiter speaks perfect English and Danish(also Japanese if that’s your thing), and they have English menus. Upon arrival, you get tea, edamame, and hot towels to warm your hands. Although below street level, the space is really inviting and rustic with large wooden tables. The older man and woman that occasionally come out to help are adorable and make you feel like you’re in someone’s home, not a restaurant. We got sashimi teishokus for dinner. While definitely on the pricey side, everything was delicious and complimented each other well. Drinks were solid, too. For two with a single drink each, total was 848DKK(or about $ 130). You get 10% off if you pay by cash instead of card. If I lived in Copenhagen, I’d definitely add this to my list of special-occasion places.

Great quality food and fresh sushi. But you’ll pay dearly for Japanese food in Copenhagen. True to Danish design, the ambiance is minimalistic with thoughtful pieces and clean lines. I love the large solid wood tables. We scanned the menu and everything looks authentic. 298DKK for a pork katsudon bento and 398DKK for a grilled eel bento. That translates to $ 54 and $ 79 bento box respectively. The MOST I’ve ever paid for a bento box! :0 Service was attentive and warm. I found it endearing that this is a family run operation and they even have their 70 year old grandma serving tea. Dōmo arigatōgozaimashita!

Nice family-run place with excellent sushi and service. Me, my wife and our two kids had made a reservation and were greeted by the very nice staff and shown to the table. They dont accept foreign vis cards(why?!) and things were a bit more expensive than we had assumed(we brought 1000 dkr and the diner came to 900). Food was excellent, both the chicken teriyaki bento and the sushi that we had. Sapporo beer to it made the diner a great experience.

Me and my boyfriend went here after looking at recommendations here on Unilocal. They were known for their bento box as well as their sushi, and we’re both a fan of sushi so we’re excited! We had a reserved a table and we felt very welcomed by the old japanese guy and the younger waiters. We decided to go for the beer Sapporo and decided to share a big can 650 ml cause according to the waiter theSapporo on can had more flavour than on the bottle. It was really good. To eat we had some choices of sushi; salmon nigiri, california roll, spicy salmon roll and crispy shrimp roll We also had a bento box. UNfortunately the bento with yakiniku were finished(as well as another one(2 of 5 were sold out which was strange being an early Saturday night). We went for the fried pork. The sushi(crispy shrimp especially) was really good. The rice was perfectly flavoured but the spicy salmon roll and the california roll tasted identical sadly. The bento box was a huge dissappointment as half the box was garnish…1/3 was cooked jasmine rice and just 1⁄3 was yummy(fried pork). The bento box costed 300 dkr and was nearly worth half of it cause to go with the rice and pork, it was some mushrooms, some pepper, some pickles, half an boiled egg(!!!). So, if you decide for Bento, which according to me do not live up to its reputation, stick with the sushi, that is their thing!

Mmm. I’ve been craving some legit Japanese food for awhile so when I went to Copenhagen, I decided to check this place out. It’s located a few minutes away from the central train station, so very convenient. I went for lunch and the lunch menu is sparse, but cheap – there are three items: I can’t remember the other two items but one was the onigri and the other was some kind of katsu curry I think? I got the nabeyaki udon(85DKK) and it was delicious and quite filling. It comes with chicken karaage, imitation crab, spinach, and half an egg, and a very delicious full bowl of udon noodles. I was extremely satisfied. The waiter is also super nice and they give you free tea! I’m such a fan tldr; cute place for some cheap, high-quality lunch!

We arrived at Bento around 3pm and found that they were closed so we went to a museum to pass some time. Went back for dinner and were greeted by the loveliest Japanese man. I only wish I had gotten his name. So glad we went back! The service was phenomenal. I’d go back just for that alone. His mom(I think it was his mom) was very sweet as well. So much hospitality. I ordered the Japanese Pork Cutlet Bento Box and a light Asahi beer. Everything was so delicious. My tummy hasn’t been this happy in so long. We were really craving Asian food and Bento hit the spot. The hardest part about studying abroad is not being close to Koreatown, Chinatown, and Little Tokyo as I’m used to. I wish Bento and the kind family that runs it all the best.

Solid Japanese food in Copenhagen. As previously mentioned it is a family owned business and super cute to watch grandma serving tea. Food: 4⁄5 Due to the fact I was sick, I did not have any sushi but we had bento boxes instead: grilled eel and teriyaki salmon. It was presented beautifully in an actual bento box. It had grilled/pickled vegetables, salad, a hard boiled egg, and rice. The sweet potato is the best I have ever tasted! The eel was delicious and perfectly cooked, so was the salmon. Good eel is soft and melts in your mouth, and the accompanying sauce should not be too sweet. This grilled eel hit all the marks. Service: 4⁄5 The menu has English and they speak some English. After being seated, we were presented with hot towels to wipe our hands. We were also given green tea and edamame to snack on while we waited for our food. Food here isn’t rushed and should be slowly enjoyed. Atmosphere: 5⁄5 This place was recently renovated and the décor is very rustic chic. The restaurant is designed for you to lounge(so lounge away!) Value: 3⁄5 The portions are large and very filling, though on the more expensive side. Each bento was around 200 – 300 kr. It is definitely a place to splurge on your food.

Well where to start off, after seeing the 5 star reviews in Unilocal we walked in to this traditional Japanese restaurant. We were greeted by a waiter who’s first words were«We dont take credit cards».We came for lunch around 1:30 and they said they had no nigiri, only rolls and appetizers, the waiter said they did not serve nigiris or hand rolls for lunch. There is only one waiter in the restaurant and we had to ask him to bring us menus after 10 minutes so we could order. We waited 1 hour for food. Dont come hungry because it takes for ever to get food on the table. I was surprised with bad service in europe but man this has been the worst so far. We ordered maki style rolls, the seaweed was soft and smushi which i dislike and the rice was extremely fragrant. I would recommend people stay away, its a shame because the place really has potential.

Absolutely the best sushi place in Copenhagen, with out a doubt. I’ve been to a lot of places in Copenhagen, this one takes the price. It’s owned by a sweet japanese family, with the grandmother going around serving thee. I’ve been to japan 4 times now, and this place is very authentic and very friendly. I can highly recommend Bento Sushi, you won’t be disapointed.

10 years ago I lived in Vesterbro. Here I was lucky enough to stumble over a restaurant on Sønder Boulevard run by a Japanese mother and his son. It was here that I tasted an egg omelet that left me dumbstruck with admiration — and it was this egg omelet, which later set the standard for all other egg omelets that I came to taste. Unfortunately, I moved away from Vesterbro for a while and when I came back, the sushi joint was gone. Alas! Vesterbro was robbed of a gem, and I was robbed of one of my favourite hang outs. … until one of my friends — who is also a formidable cook — told the juiciest stories about a small Japanese place on Helgolandsgade serving the most beautiful egg omelets. Did you say egg omelet? At the first opportunity that presented itself, I grabbed my partner and went to visit Bento. And what did I see? A Japanese mother and his son running a restaurant together. The SAME mother and son! I could have jumped up and down of sheer pleasure! Instead I ordered large amounts of sushi with greater amounts of egg omelette. And miso soup. And green tea. And yum! Till this day Bento remains the best sushi restaurant I have ever visited. And the egg omelet? Better than I remembered it.

A fantastic dining experience, the food, presentation and the atmosphere is all top notch. Some of the best sushi in Copenhagen. And the family running the place is so lovely and down to earth, and NOTE, they are Japanese and stick to genuine Japanese traditions of cooking sushi and other Japanese dishes, none of the short-cuts of the innumerable other sushi-places in town. Can keep going here again and again without getting tired of it.

my favourite restaurant, hands down. my husband and i had our wedding dinner here, along with countless regular dinners, lunches, and birthdays. bento is made up of a family team; son is making sushi, mother is cooking, and grandmother is serving tea and edamame. the friendliness and service is unmatched, and the food is delicious. at lunch you can order their namesake, a bento box; filled with japanese pickles and dumplings or protein of choice atop rice. udon and ramen(miso or shoyu) are also good picks, and quite authentic to boot. ito-san mixes up some furious cocktails and funny stories in the evenings. sushi can be ordered all day, and you can really see the quality. on pay day, this is the first place i want to go!(:
