Zoologická zahrada hl. m. Prahy

I have been to many wonderful zoos but this place is one of my favorites. You were really able to get up close and personal with the animals. The giraffe experience was breathtaking. Highly recommend.

Didn’t know there are many rodent-​like animals in the region! Very interesting! Very large zoo, should’ve planned for a whole day. There are a lot of inclined walk ways. There are play areas for kids like slides and mini train to ride. The view for African animals like giraffes and zebras is beautiful! Bring student ID for a discount! Maps can be bought for 5czk but there are directories throughout the park that you can just take a picture of.

Wonderful zoo, a place to easily spend the whole day. The place is huge, with a great variety of of animals, the lowest ticket fares in Europe, and plenty of kiosks for a snack. The only complaints would have to be the staggering amounts of wasps (the animal, not the American type) trying to eat your food, destroy the world, and all the other wasp things to do! Guess they’re only a problem in the summer months :-) All in all, a place well worth a visit
Tldr; Go visit, lookout for wasps!

Amazing place. Plan to spend the whole day there and take a picnic. Very easy to get to using public transport.

Lots of animals in here!

This zoo is a treasure. Well worth the trip to make a visit. Many zoos in this part of Europe are sad and depressing. The Prague zoo has worked hard to make the enclosures as comfortable and interesting as possible for the animals. Many exhibits are multi-​species, grouped by region. There are nearly 700 species to see, some up close and personal like the lemurs. They have a large board by the front entrance showing when the animals will be fed, so you can be at the right place at the right time. They also have a train you can ride to see the whole zoo.

Up close and personal zoo. The nocturnal animal exhibit has bats flying around guests. Outdoor exhibit with Lemurs flying around in the around over your head and crawling on the railings you’re holding on to. In every exhibit you are very close to the action, substantially more so than almost anywhere in the US.
Very large and a lot of walking but you never find yourself without anything to look at. Goats and a handful of primates cover the rocky hill you walk beside, making for some very entertaining activities – these guys are running up and down steep rock cliffs as they would in nature.
Unlike some euro activities food, water & drinks plus facilities are everywhere, cost effective and quite good.
I saw many amphibians a few reptiles and birds that I’ve never seen before here!
Overall impressive and I will come back again. 200kc (about $ 10) very well spent.

I was very happy I went to this is zoo, they have such a broad range of animals that includes everything from a giant salamander to tigers.
The animal exhibits are kept up very well and I found each of them to be very clean. The animals all seem to be in good care and it was fun to watch around lunchtime when you get to see the zookeepers interacting with the animals.
The zoo is actually much larger than it looks, and it times it’s easy to get lost if you can’t read the signs which are frequently not an English. So just wear comfy shoes and bring some bottled water. If you don’t bring any water, there are plenty of small cafés and refreshment stands throughout the zoo.
I went during the week where there was only a very small crowd so I was able to get up close to every single exhibit without any issues. You can literally stand very close to each of the animals.
I came from the Old Towne Square by the astronomical clock and a cab ride was about $ 20, entrance was $ 10, and a ride back with another $ 20. It was still worth it, and be prepared to spend about two or three hours there, even if you’re alone.

Prager Zoo ist ein Muss für die Tierliebhaber und Naturfreaks. Tiere machten einen sehr gepflegten und gesunden Eindruck. Der Zoo ist wirklich großzügig angelegt und bietet sogar was für die körperliche Fitness. Eine coole Seilbahn für 20 Kronen mitten im Zoo ;) ist ebenfalls empfehlenswert — man bekommt einen wunderbaren Blick auf den Zoo und ein Teil der Stadt — beim sonnigen Wetter einfach grandios. Eintritt kostete am 20.04.2014 — 200 Kronen (ca. 7.50 EUR pro Erwachsenen) + 100 Kronen (3.60 EUR) Parkgebühr direkt vor dem Zoo. Einfach auf gut Glück bitte nicht parken — wird streng kontrolliert und wenn man Pech habt — hängt eine Fahrsperre am Reifen. ;)
Nilpferde waren wirklich ein Highlight sowie die Raubkatzen!

Okay, no. I just really like using that line.
But even without the T-​Rex, this is without a doubt the best zoo I’ve ever been to.
And I’ve been to A LOT of zoos.
It’s kind of my thing.
If I go anywhere, the first thing I do before looking for food, shelter, water, whatever, is check to see if there’s a zoo.
When I first found out Prague was on my travel agenda, I’ll admit that I knew nothing about the city and had a hard time getting excited right off the bat… and then I saw the zoo. Whoa. Wha-​ha-​ho. I’m in.
We came here on our last day in Prague and gave ourselves 5 hours… not enough time. We were literally sprinting through from beginning to end and were still only able to allow time for a quick glance for a number of exhibits.
It was a short 7-​minute subway and 20-​minute bus ride from the city center and one of the easier things to get to in the city if you don’t speak the native language. Just remember that it’s the end of the bus-​line for that route.
I’m from of relatively flat part of the United States, so for me the terrain was basically mountainous. I sweat through my winter coat going around to everything, but it was so much fun.
It was really cool how close you could get to the animals, but very strange coming from an American perspective where safety can at times seem cumbersome and overboard. Here, I could literally put my hands under and into the cheetah enclosure where the cheetahs napped 6 feet away. If you want to bring your dog, you can. If you work here and want to smoke in an enclosure, you can. Just as an observation, it seemed like there were very few rules here.
The coolest thing about coming here was seeing the different kinds of animals they had. They had the largest tusked elephant I’ve ever seen, a highly active Siberian tiger that you can come face-​to-​face with, TWO AARDVARKS (my favorite!), a cool-​as-​heck cassowary, red pandas, and so, so much more.
I recommend going up first and starting at the top of the ‘mountain’ for a number of reasons. #1 is that it’ll be easier in the long run to start high and go low after you’ve been hoofin’ it all day. #2 is that if you start at the bottom, the zoo can seem a little bird-​heavy. I mean, birds are alright and all, but they’re pretty much last on my list of animals I’m dying to see at the zoo.
I feel like I’ve given this zoo a pretty solid recommendation already, but if you need a bit more convincing, just know that I came here on the 4^th day of our 3 week trip and felt like if I’d more than gotten my flight money’s worth. If I had an excess of payola, hopping a zillion hour, zillion dollar plane ride from the States to just the Prague Zoo, and then back to the US again, would still be totally worth it.

Just a perfect zoo, good to have a walk as well, if you live around the annual ticket is a great deal, cheap and you can go whenever you want just for a walk, during weekends can be really crowded

Prague’s Zoo is simply the best I’ve been to in the world (and I seem to go to a lot of zoos). This zoo is smaller than many, but laid out very well and really gives you a great idea of the habitats and mannerisms of animals. You get to be really close up with some of the creatures and that really was special.
There’s lots of Czech being spoken, naturally, but everyone was very polite and accepting of people not always understanding things. Getting there was a little difficult, too.
The mountain goats were the highlight for my party. Yes, mountain goats. Two got into a fight and then one started to fall down the side of these cliffs. To fully understand this, you’d have to see the cliffs themselves which sharply slope downwards. One of my friends cracked a joke «bah– bah– bah-​» which is the noise one must make as it tumbles. Luckily, these guys can hold their ground.
You can also have beer here which was an unexpected treat. Great zoo; must see. Visit the hedge maze across the street for extra fun!

This is a perfect place to spend a few hours at. I have been there twice and will probably visit this zoo again when I am in Prague. My favorite animals there? Flamingos! :D

Prague Zoo’s 111 acres is modest in size compared to its world-​class counterparts, but trekking through it, you’d really never know it. It’s deceivingly hilly, often showcases its exhibits via multiple winding pathways and entry points, has a curious-​looking chairlift that makes more and more sense as you trod on, and in the case of the Africa House and Savannah, requires you to cross over a bridge that brings you to a whole other reserve. It’s a good half-day’s work if you really want to see everything.
But near-​exhaustion shouldn’t deter you. There are some excellent areas here, specifically the aforementioned African section (with giraffes that seem to graze in an expanse straight out of Jurassic Park), the Indonesian Jungle (an indoor/​outdoor site that convincingly transports you to the rainforest, sounds and temperature included), and definitely the elephants (the newborn calf clearly the star of the show).
A good chunk of the zoo was under construction when I went. Typically, with zoos, it’s an exhibit here or there, but this was sizable — a good quarter grayed out on the map. Regardless, there was still so much to see. Prague Zoo has quite a collection, from an excitable honey badger to playful penguins, leaping lemurs to a majestic tiger, and everything in between (OK, so the marine life was limited, but we’ll look past that). Also, the whole experience is very immersive, at times, maybe too immersive. I really wondered how these low fences were going to protect me from the on-​guard hyena stalking me with his eyes. But I survived. Somehow.
Coming from a tourist, the zoo’s location isn’t terribly tourist-​friendly. I had to take a tram, then a bus to get here, but again, I made it. It gets you out of the city centre, into a different, elevated, somewhat suburban section of Prague, and from there, well, like the very best of zoos worldwide, transports you all across the globe.

Ein wirklich schöner und vielseitiger Zoo. Toll dass man sogar dem Hund mitnehmen darf. An vielen stellen ist Gastronomie zu finden die im Vergleich zu Deutschland sehr günstig ist. Eine besondere Attraktion ist die Seilbahn die mitten im Zoo den Berg hinauf geht. wir hatten hier sehr viel Spaß.

7 Stunden haben wir im Zoo verweilt und es hätten auch noch weit mehr werden können, wenn da dann nicht auch Feierabend gewesen wäre…
super schön angelegt, tolle Gehege, sauber, überall Sitz– und Verweilmöglichkeiten, viele Kinderspielplätze, Duschen die im Sommer einem durch leichten Nieselregen die richtige Abkühlung verschaffen, einen Aussichtsturm, ein Sessellift, Reiten für Kids, ein Minipool zum Plantschen, Streichelzoo und jede Mange Tiere, teilweise hautnah zu erleben, nach Lebensräumen angeordnet, 3sprachig erklärt, größtenteil mit dazugehörigem Tierton zum Anhören. Nicht nur für Kinder ein tolles Erlebnis. .. viel Zeit mitbringen, genießen und die Seele baumeln lassen…
Ach ja. .. 2 Erwachsene. 1 Kind, 3 x Sessellift und 1 x Reiten für 16 EUR!
Wo gibt es das noch???

Ich habe wirklich schon viele Zoos gesehen,
dieser aber ist definitiv mein absoluter Favorit in Europa!
Landschaftlich wunderbar gestaltet,
der Hang mit der Seilbahn wurde ja schon erwähnt,
und von der Gestaltung der Gehege her auf höchstem Niveau!
Hier werden die Tiere nicht nach Gattung sondern nach Vorkommen geordnet,.
Heißt:
Man heat nicht das eine Troparium, wo alle Schlangen dieser Welt präsentiert werden, sondern man kommt immer mal wieder an einer vorbei.
Mal im indonesischen Regenwald-​Haus, mal gleich neben den Elefanten.
Eine großzügig gestaltete «Steppenlandschaft» mit Rotschildgiraffen, Zebras und diversen Antilopen lässt einen das Gefühl in Tschecheien zu sein vergessen.
Großartig auch die Katta-​Insel!
Ein wenig wehmütig wird man natürlich, wenn man an das verheerende Hochwasser von 2002 erinnert wird, dem zahlreiche Tiere des Zoos zum Opfer fielen.
Jedem Ende wohnt aber ja irgendwie auch immer ein Neuanfang inne.
Hier kann man das deutlich sehen.

Der Prager Zoo liegt abseits des Zentrums, im Stadteil Troja. Mann erreicht ihn mit dem Bus.
Obwohl ein wenig abgelegen, lohnt sich ein Besuch für Touristen, die etwas länger in Prag verweilen und erst recht für diejenigen mit Kindern, auf jeden Fall!
Die Gehege sind sehr groß und schön angelegt, das Gelände ingesamt sehr hügelig, was dem Zoo eine besondere Note gibt. Aufgrund des relativ starken Gefälles konnte man es sich sogar erlauben, eine Seilbahn zu installieren.
Gastronomisch gibt es das typische Prager Angebot, in Form eines Biergartens mit allerlei Gerichten, natürlich auch dem berühmten Schweinebraten mit Knödeln ;-)
Wirklich schön für einen Tagesausflug.

If London is ten times size of Prague, Prague zoo is ten times bigger (in fact more than that) than the one in London. And much much more fun! So big that even after whole day you wouldn’t have seen it all. Any animal you can think of you’ll find. Loads of attractions for kids, like little goats you can feed and touch, or the little train and merry goes aroundPlanty of little cafes to sit down and get refreshments too.
Honestly, great ZOO. However go only if you are willing to give up whole day
