I’ve been going to Weldon for as long as I can remember(also, my mother and sister frequent here) and have only once been upset with a cut(done by a stylist who later moved on to a different salon…) My hair is also VERY curly, natty, unruly, basically a fro’. Weldon introduced me to straightening my hair, I bought my first CHI there, and for over 8 years I have been straightening my hair without issue(and with minimal damage) thanks to their guidance. Cami and Frank do a wonderful job, they are very nice people, and their staff are also very friendly. To have my hair washed, cut, styled(straightened usually, which takes about an hour in itself… I said, it is curly) it is about 30 $ before a tip. Cami also was very generous and gave me a pair of thinning shears(her old pair) for free, so I have been touching up my own hair in between cuts, Ha! It is true that this salon probably specializes in asian hair, or more tame hair, but only once have I ever been upset by a STYLE(not a cut), which was easily changed once I washed my hair out.(The stylist blow dryed my hair and then sprayed it in palce, I looked like Mocha, the resident pom at Weldon).

Had the wonderful opportunity of getting my hair cut and styled at Weldon Salon in Winnipeg. The booking process was clear and easy. Staff greeted my with a smile and quickly moved me into the hair washing station. The hair wash was good with excellent massage pressure and a thorough rinse. The water temperature was good and splashing was at a minimum. From there, I quickly moved into the senior hair stylist’s chair and didn’t wait long before the professional greeted me with a smile and asked me what type of cut suited my needs. He reviewed all the options and emphasized a cut that he felt would give me both style and symmetry. His cutting skills were solid and I did not notice any alignment issues. Appropriate brushes and scissors were used and didn’t notice any quality issues in that area. We reviewed the cut together and I was satisfied for my first visit! So, yes I am a fan. Areas where I would like to see some improvement over the years to come: a) Need to upgrade hair products(gels, sprays, hybrid gels, etc). I felt they were a bit too scuzzy. b) Need to play a more modern or planned music slate within the venue. Just felt it was a bit off. Enjoy Weldon Salon in Winnipeg!

I wish I could give negative stars for this little gem of a place. I think a better name would be Hair Rapists R Us, or maybe no frills and just call this one hell. Having curly hair as I do I called this establishment to see if they have experience, and as luck would have it, they have experience and time to cut my hair today. Lucky me, right! So I was excited about the brow threading also being available(at this point I would like to point out this review is solely based on the hair foul that happened, threading lady was kind and gentle and really did a lovely job). Now back to the debacle, so thread lady gives me a lovely hair wash, and scalp massage then, and here’s where it gets awful, she passes me off to the stylists chair.(it should be noted that the use of the term stylist is used extremely loose for the ease of incident telling) so I let the stylist know what I need, tumbling curls max two inches cut off, has to fit in a ponytail, and texturing/thining. So I sit, he works, and casual conversation is applied. Even told him how I just finished growing my hair out from a bad cut that took a year and a half. So I see at the end how short my hair is, and travel home to fix it to see what I’m really working with. And at this point I am fairly nonplused about the experience. Ha! Once i have rinsed my hair and try to style it I notice my fronts are not even. Not only that but a gap is on the right side directly at the front. Upset as my birthday is the next day, and I feel I resemble more a teenage boy, I get the nerve to go back. He was nice, maybe he will be reasonable, I am devastated by my hair rapage. Pppfffft, how wrong I was… he does not care, he doesn’t apologize, and he does not refund. I am told by the stylist that my perception of my hair is merely an opinion.
