The sushi was awesome. Their soda fountain wasn’t working which was a little annoying. The mahalo roll and the OMG roll(seasonal) were fantastic. Save room for the black sesame ice cream as well.

This is a great place if you enjoy hair in your sushi. This has happened three times. This then would beg the question on why I would go back more than once. A very good question. This has happened at all three of their locations. I hoped it would be different with a different location. The most recent experience was simply it was the only place still open when we ordered via on New Year’s Eve. In general the rolls are just too big to stuff in your mouth and generates a very nauseating experience after the 3rd or 4th piece. Fool me once(with hair in your sushi) shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me thrice… well clearly I’m the idiot for going back. This place has my strongest recommendation against it… unless you like hair in your sushi.

Anyone who actually eats sushi on a regular basis and understands what sushi is about will know that it’s actually all about the rice in the roll and the nigiri. Yes, fresh fish is important but properly and I cannot emphasize enough about the properly made sushi rice is the utmost importance. There’s a reason why in Japan, sushi chefs are relegated to making sushi rice for 10 years before they can even touch any fish! It sounds simple but you gotta make the rice right! so let’s jump to Wasabi — one of the«best» and higher priced sushi restaurants that should know better in terms of executing sushi technique. Well, we got mushy pasty tasting rice in a $ 20 specialty roll. One bite in, the texture of the rice was so bad, you could hardly focus the rest of the roll. Sent the roll back and told the chef that it was not bad rice. Well, apparently, he didn’t care or he doesn’t know what good and bad sushi rice is cause he said it was«fine». Wow. It’s unfortunate that the chef’s ineptness ruined our evening because the serving staff agreed that the rice was too wet. The roll was taken off our bill but we left with such a bad impression of Wasabi — a place that can be hit and miss but was our preferred sushi place in the city. Our server was good and tried to make the best of the situation but I can’t continue dining at a place that’s so cavalier and so off their mark in their sushi making skills.

Was very pleased with the service and food. Didn’t expect land-locked Winnipeg to have a good sushi place, but surprise-surprise, it does! Cute little house on Broadway also made for a fun experience.

OK, so Wasabi is suppose to be the premier sushi joint in the Peg’. I will give them props for originality of their dishes, decent service and ‘cross your leg’ ambiance. Match that with a green tea, and I have entertained both Vancouver & Toronto guests who were suitably impressed! Reality time. 5 stars doesn’t come easy, and you are paying a very huge markup over other sushi restaurants to have the privilege of dining at Wasabi. For the price, I expect to be OMGWOW! Say WOW upside down… MOM! 4 stars is the best I can give. Yep, Wasabi has good sushi in the middle of Canada. Just know you are going to pay for it!

Ok. really dressed up and fairly expensive, but not that amazing imo. It is decent, don’t get me wrong, but it is not anything above decent. There are lots of places with better sushi and lower prices. If you want really fancy rolls that are ok this is the place for you. Or if you want to impress a date with your willingness to spend money(but not with your taste in sushi) then book a reservation today. The restaurant itself is fairly nice(has a screened in patio) and in a good location, the service was fine.

OK went a Wednesday nite around 5pm, almost no one in the place. The service was great and the ingredients were fresh well prepared and presented. Overall this place did very well, however I am curious how they do if the place is packed. The only down side of the whole thing was the price is higher then I expect for the diner we had. We may make it back again, however There are some other places we want to check out that may be cost effective.

The décor was great was great for a sushi place. They had a real fireplace which makes for a great evening especially in the cold. Being a vegetarian and going to Sushi places can be a challenge. Wasabi offers a good selection of vegetarian sushi(please note they are not at all Vegan friendly but that is to be expected. It IS a sushi joint). Check out the sushi with the interesting and ‘fishy’ looking Soy crêpe. They substitute it for sea weed. The overall service was average. The waitress was at times confused and didn’t do the proper ‘follow-ups’ to take subsequent order but overall it was a positive experience. This place also plays some interesting music. If you are a fan of electronic, ambient or classical music they manage to switch between these genres throughout the night. It definitely makes for an eclectic evening. P. S. Be prepared to deflate your wallet considerably here! It is pricey.
