What a pity that this place is closing in the new year because there’s nothing I enjoy quite like a nice afternoon tea. The décor and atmosphere is typical tea room — china cabinets, chandeliers, fireplace, lots of fake flowers, artwork on the walls, white table cloths etc — very traditional, very Victorian, but well suited to the place. The service was lovely. The gal working there was very pleasant and soft spoken. My only disappointment was that she didn’t pour for me, which is something that I enjoy and am used to when going for tea. I ordered the tea for one which comes with a scone, four miniature sandwiches and four dainties and the Prince Wales tea(the tea is a separate menu item from the food.) The tea was lovely, a really nice loose leaf black tea with notes of black currant. The food ranged from good to excellent. The scone was very nice and warm — warmed in a microwave I’m pretty sure, but it didn’t seem to affect the texture of it at all. It came with a nice jam and Devonshire cream, which was kind of disappointing. The cream was very fluffy and sweet with not much else to it for flavour — not rich and thick like I expect Devonshire cream to be. The sandwiches were all delicious — cucumber & cream cheese, salmon, egg salad & curried chicken salad. Great flavour & texture. The dainties were also lovely. I don’t recall exactly what they were any more, but they were all tasty and fresh — nothing dry or bland. Overall presentation was very nice — the food was served on a three tiered rack and tea was served in a variety of mismatched china, which was charming and pretty. If you enjoy a nice afternoon tea, get yourself down here before the new year.
