There are two museums within a block of each other. One is the half-billion dollar Canadian Human Rights Museum. The other is the Winnipeg Railway Museum. One is a completely horrible waste of time and space. The other is the Winnipeg Railway Museum. You can go on the trains. Which, in itself, is awesome. There are detailed exhibits and knowledgable staff. Maps and posters and signs. Memorabilia. It’s the real deal. It’s the kind of place that’s so magical that you aren’t sure if it really exists or if it’s just a dream. The kind of place that when you go back, you aren’t sure if it’ll actually be an empty corridor in the old train station of your imagination. Beyond recommended.

If you find yourself at the train station or the Forks, the Railway Museum is a pretty cool spot to check out. Entrance fee is reasonable and they have a ton of cool train cars and a very large model train exhibit setup. Many of the cars you can go on and get up close and personal with, sitting in the conductor seat and such. A better setup on the model train exhibit and a better gift shop would have resulted in a five star review. I really wanted to buy a model train engine but none of the ones in the shop where really good quality.
