Came for breakfast. Fun place, great wait staff. Chicken and waffles were tasty. Hubbie had Poppy breakfast with side of corn bread. He wasn’t impressed — corn bread was dry and homemade sausage not much flavour. Sounds like we won’t be returning(for breakfast anyway).

If I were reviewing based on food alone, I might be tempted to give this place a four. We ate at The Tallest Poppy for my birthday a couple weeks ago, and had a pretty good meal. There’s not a lot for vegans, but vegetarians will be happy. The«round appetizers» are particularly delicious. I enjoyed the veggie burger, even though I had to cut the patty in half to make the burger a reasonable size. My daughter liked the fried chicken, and my husband loved his burger. Where this place really falls apart is in atmosphere. It looks very much like they were trying to go for the quirky, eclectic vibe, but the look never quite gels, and just ends up looking sloppy and cheap. The unfinished plywood floor, while very cool when it was new(I assume), is now just grotty and old. The service wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t friendly. The desserts were uninspiring. Essentially, the restaurant is much like its décor — a collection of hits and misses in need of a curator.

Hot sauce galore! I don’t often write a review after just one visit, but I was pretty excited about this one. First of all, it is every breakfast lover’s dream. It’s not just your typical run of the mill bacon and eggs with a side of toast. The menu is so adventurous. I ordered the kale breakfast which was quite daring for me since I like to keep my breakfast pretty plain Jane. But they did not disappoint, it was everything I could have hoped for and more. It’s basically kale, bacon, potatoes, cucumber, onions and mushrooms all sautéed into a plate of deliciousness. And of course came with 2 poached eggs and toast. I was totally in love with the meal. I was also pleased to see about 6 or 7 different types of hot sauce to choose from. And you best believe I tried at least 4 of them! My partner ordered the chicken and waffles which is one of his favourite meals from there. Make sure to check this place out! Perfect for those sunday morning hangovers!

Being new to Winnipeg my son and I came upon this place by chance on our weekly Sunday breakfast adventures. We are glad we did. It gets a little busy sometimes and there is a wait but its well worth it. The atmosphere is laid back and the food is delicious. The staff and owners are the best. Even while waiting we get greeted with smiles, hellos and a cup of coffee while we wait. We have tried quite a few of the menu options but our go to is the Chicken and Waffles. Its really fantastic. My son and I have continued to go every Sunday and it is now part of our weekly ritual. He starts asking me through the week if we are going on the weekend. Talia, Steve and their staff have made us feel at home in our new city. I have and will continue to recommend The Tallest Poppy to anyone and everyone.

If you want to be treated rudely and talked down to by Self pretentious hipsters. I suggest you have breakfast at this restaurant. The menu looks decent and the prices seem reasonable. But the wait staff in the this resteraunt believe their shit doesn’t stink. I was visiting from out of town so I’m grateful I won’t walk by this place on Sunday strolls. Food was delicious thou

The food in this place earns the highest praise. The only thing it is lacking is service. The interior is eclectic — hipster if you will — like every piece of furniture came from Salvation Army. The menu is simplistic but filled with some incredibly choices. I ended up settling in the ‘Trifecta burger’ and it was tender and delicious. Meals come loaded with a side of potato chips. The only downside was service. We were left standing at the door for a few confused minutes before being seated. The menus came, but the server always seemed in a rush, never enough time to fill drinks or take orders unless we called her over. Nothing but good to say for the food though. It was cheap and well and truly delicious. This is incredible bang for your buck. Worth the stop if you’re in the area.

This place is pretty cool! We enjoyed the atmosphere and how the place is decorated. I am giving three stars though because when we sat down we were told of about 4 – 5 things on the menu that we could not order. It wasn’t a huge deal but it is a funny way to start your dinner. The drinks and food we did end up ordering were tasty though. After dinner we asked about dessert but they had a very sparse looking display case and only two options. They make the dessert in house, I think, so I guess it made sense to only have a few options. The experience was decent overall, but nothing really stood out as exceptional.

Great breakfast — recommend the kale & eggs. Excellent selection of hot sauces. Good service & nice down-to-earth vibe. And great cocktails.

I was a huge fan of the Tallest Poppy when they first opened on Main Street then they closed and now have re-opened in a new spot. They are now in the burgeoning west broadway area on Sherbrook and located in the actual Sherbrook Inn — yes, the«sherbie» as many of us affectionately call this place. Great location as within a block you have a lot of good local eateries to choose from. The location was a former Chinese food restaurant that went vacant for a while. Not sure what it looked like before but it’s a beautiful space now. Prettied up yet still holding a lot of charm from the past. Lots of old school tables and chairs, unassuming bar at the back and two big blue and white paintings. this place has only been open for a week but it’s obviously been missed as shown by the packed Sunday brunch crowd. There was a line ups by the wait wasn’t too long — about 15 – 30 mins depending on your group size. Staff were very friendly, laid back yet focused on the task at hand despite the chaos. The space is a fair size — likely seats a total of 40 people? Breakfast seems to run all day. We were there around 1 pm and had both lunch and breakfast menus to choose from. Lots of sandwiches — all under $ 10 with old dutch ripple chips and pickle plus an interesting breakfast selections. There’s even a cocktail menu! From the breakfast menu, I had the chicken and waffles($ 12.95) — buttermilk fried chicken with Belgian waffles. How can I say no to fried chicken for brunch? The chicken was very well seasoned though it was probably fried a tad too long but still passable. The Belgian waffles were night and light and paired really well though the menu did mention syrup all I got was this watery«gravy» that came in my syrup container. The watery gravy did nothing for my meal. The two-tone cesar was a vodka, clamato, tomatillo and pablano cocktail that had a nice flavour and felt more mellow than most cesars. The spicy tuna melt($ 8.55) is an open faced tuna with a few types of cheeses melted on top and served with chips. Not really spicy but a good tuna sandwich if that’s your thing. They are also open for dinner so lots of opportunity to support this place. Local business, great vibe — look forward to my next visit!

I read the menu online and really wanted to check out this restaurant. In fact I wanted to go last summer when I was in town but the opportunity never came up. So I walk in on Friday morning around 10’n the place is busy but not insanely busy with people waiting to pay, get seated, etc. The sign on the door says to wait to be seated. A couple of minutes go by and someone says hi, types something into an iPad, another person comes by and has a conversation with the first person then they both leave. No words. A few minutes later I’m tired of standing by the front door looking like a fool and decide to spend my time and money elsewhere. I so badly wanted to try the food that this restaurant has to offer based on the wonderful descriptions online. However the front of the house had better get their act together before I would patronize this establishment. The kitchen staff deserve better than this. They work hard and have no control over how the guests are treated.

This is a great place to go for some slightly«different» foods! I’m talking about dishes like fried chicken and waffles, kale and mushrooms with eggs, and bison meatloaf. I really like going for breakfast, which is reasonably priced, as I’ve heard lunch is, but I went for dinner one day and ordered the smashed potatoes as a side… This sounds great, right? They were terrible. Gluey, weird tasting in a way I can’t put a finger on. They have some nice cocktails, and I would recommend going there just for a drink or two if your in the mood for more than just a beer. Most other places nearby tend to go on the less fancy side.
