So imagine you weren’t from Winnipeg, and didn’t know what pancake house was… now read this: I walked in and the host was standing at the counter leaning over his phone. For 10…20…30 seconds. We are standing there in the awkward«Is this for real» position. He looks up and is, of course, embarrassed. As someone who works in the restaurant industry and has been a hostess I noted to him«You shouldn’t really be doing that». Where are the managers on a busy morning? I truly don’t understand why this kid can’t wait his 3 hour shift to text someone and why he is able to have his phone on his person. The food was ok as always, the crepes are very nice and they use real whipped cream(not sysco, oil-based) but the dishes are those old yellow, spotty, brown circle rimmed ceramic dishes that you know have been there since the place opened. The coffee was very watery in my opinion. The atmosphere leaves A LOT to be desired. Dirty EVERYTHING. Not covered in food dirty, but covered in dust and at least 20 years of grime. Wallpaper that’s off-yellow and dirty carpeting… Anyways, I’ll only come back if I’m really hungover and can’t bring myself to walk more than 10 minutes for food…

Fast service, large portions, a little pricey compared to U.S.,(but we’re not in Kansas anymore Toto). Excellent apple pancake, huge, and a regular order gave me 6 cakes with me not being able to finish them all. Will be back.

Great giant apple, hot, loaded with apples… a good dish to share. Chicken livers were terrific and potato pancakes fine… a little ho hum.

This is arguably the finest restaurant in Winnipeg. A spectacular batter-filled way to start off a day, an amazing griddle-worth of lunchtime bliss, and a marvelous place for a nice syrupy nightcap. This is just like a Girls-Gone-Wild video, if the«girls» in question were Aunt Jemima and Mrs. Butterworth and the setting was suburban Manitoba. The perfect place to make those insulin injections worth every penny. Don’t forget… this is the ORIGINAL Pancake House. Not some cheap waffle-infused travesty or low-sodium imitation. This is where it all began. The true north strong and free.
