I saw a review on Unilocal and decided to try this place out. I had the buffet, everything tasted fresh. Their chicken balls actually had lots of meat in them and were big. Service was prompt. Price was great, lunch buffet was under $ 10.

There’s lots of Chinese food restaurants around the city so it’s hard to find a good one. Summer Palace is located in a strip mall off Pembina Hwy, same mall as the Value Village. The décor is a little dated but nice enough to dine in. Service is friendly although there was some confusion due to some communication issues but otherwise, the order was accurate and food was great even as take out. Most chicken and beef dishes are around $ 9.95-$ 10.95 and seafood dishes are about $ 12.95. And the portions are generous. We ordered quite a few dishes but one of the best is the the crispy spring chicken with green onion and ginger sauce #28($ 9.95). It’s a half chicken on the bone that’s perfectly crisp skin and moist chicken meat with lots of sliced green onions sitting in a well balanced ginger soy sauce. Tried the«3 cup chicken», which isn’t listed on the English menu, it’s a traditional Taiwanese dish. It comes with white and dark chicken meat cut up with some still on the bone in a very strong sauce — mostly rice wine, soy sauce and garlic. I found the rice wine to be too intense for my tastes. I liked the Shanghai noodles #138($ 9.95) — it included slices of char siu(bbq pork) and shrimp. It wasn’t too greasy and wasn’t too salty. The assorted meat casserole #100($ 13.95) is really a stew of shrimp, squid, chicken, pork and Chinese mushrooms with tofu. It has a great consistency and taste to it. Also enjoyed the shrimp with Chinese broccoli dish #65($ 12.95) — the shrimp were cooked perfectly and there were plenty of greens in this dish.
