Absolutely fantastic! Food was amazing, portion sizes were large, and I’ll be back for sure. The only down side is the area of the city, but what this place lacks, it more than makes up for in the kitchen. I hope to be a bit of a regular.

An alright restaurant overall. The Filipino food we ordered was okay; it just took awhile to get on our tables. The workers forgot some of our orders but it eventually got there. Some woman was constantly staring at us from the kitchen which kinda creeped us out but I guess it was alright. 3⁄5 would be a fair rating.

Great food! The chef’s here could take their skills to a 5 star restaurant if they wanted to. This is one the the best asian restaurants in Winnipeg. Friendly staff.

—Updated Post 3-stars— So went back here the other day and did take-out. The restaurant air quality is still pretty bad. The sisig was a bit rubbery and the limes were super dry that no juice came out of them. I’m not sure why they keep putting mayonnaise on their sisig but I’m not a fan of it. The dishes were all very salty and I had a headache after eating(probably from the salt or MSG). I was drinking water like mad afterwards and I was still thirsty. The fried rice was a bit clumpy and so because of this they no go down a star rating. —Original Post 4-stars— Rice Bowl is situated in a sketchy area of town but usually the best food comes out of holes in the walls such as these. We were in the mood for Filipino food and so we regulated ourselves to ordering only the Filipino style dishes. The menu is a bit all over the place with Vietnamese and Chinese food also available. Our Pork Sisig was cooked great and had lots of flavour, the fried rice was excellent to have with the coconut beef dish with sweet potato. Their sinigang fresh and very good. The air quality in the restaurant, especially when full isn’t too good as it is a bit small. However, they really make up for it in the food. It would easily get 5-stars as a Filipino restaurant if they updated the dining area a bit and focus more on an ALL Filipino menu(no Adobo???). I’m a huge fan though and will keep coming back for the tasty goodness!

If you want great tasting Filipino food check out The Rice Bowl. My husband and I went there for dinner for the first time and was surprised how good the food was. Definitely much better than Myrna’s and cleaner! The restaurant is small, but clean. Clean as in, the table tops are not oily, like Myrna’s. Since the place is tiny, it does get the food smell in your clothes, the place just needs better air circulation inside. We ordered Kare Kare, it has oxtail and peanut butter taste. It was good, not too salty. We also ordered the Crispy Pata, fried pork leg, which was actually crispy, which means that they cooked it to order. Overall, we would definitely be going back to this place. It’s clean and the food is very fresh.

The Rice Bowl is a small restaurant; the interior is clean with a few modern touches. This is my first time trying Filipino food, I wasn’t sure what to expect but I was happily surprised. The deep fried«Lumpia Shanghai»(Filipino spring rolls) are filled with ground pork, onions, carrots, seasonings and is served with a sweet chili sauce. The rolls are smaller in diameter than other types of spring rolls so it made for a nice starter dish. The rolls were crisp and the fillings were nicely seasoned. I ordered the deluxe phở from the small Vietnamese section of the menu. I’m a huge fan of phở but this one didn’t really do it for me. The broth was rather bland and unusually oily. They also used the wider rice noodles — I prefer the thinner rice noodles as I find that they sit on the Chinese soup spoon more easily. The thick noodles along with the oily broth made it a little difficult to eat as the noodles kept sliding out of my spoon! So the Vietnamese section of the menu wasn’t as successful but the Filipino dishes were great! The beef«Caldereta» is a popular Filipino beef stew with vegetables. The beef was very tender and the sauce was delicious albeit a tad salty so be sure to eat it with lots of rice. This a great comfort dish on a cold day. The beef«Kare Kare» is a rich stew of ox tail and beef with a vegetables in a peanut base sauce. This dish is served with salted shrimp paste on the side which adds a great contrast in taste(maybe not for everyone but you can always skip the shrimp paste). Open Tues-Sunday 11 am to 9 pm. The portion sizes are generous and the prices are quite reasonable as most dishes range from $ 7-$ 12. I’d go back but I’d stick with the Filipino dishes; if you want phở, there’s a number of Vietnamese restaurants in the Sargent area for that.
