Galo Louco Authentic Grill

Well, the owners are Portuguese but this restaurant doesn’t really serve Portuguese food in the same vein as say, O Tacho on Sargent. This place focuses on flame grilled chicken mostly. The platters ($ 8.99-$ 13.99) vary from quarter or half chicken or other combinations with chicken kebabs and wings plus a side. There are quite a few lunch options that are under $ 10. They also serve a dinner menu that includes BBQ Baby Back Ribs, Grilled Salmon Fillet or 8 oz Top Sirloin with 2 sides — each at $ 16.99.
I heard a lot of good things about their grilled chicken so I chose the «Variety Pack» ($ 24.99) which includes half chicken (breast & leg only), 2 small chicken kebabs with green peppers, 8 wings (hot, honey garlic, teriyaki, BBQ, or sweet chilli) and 2 sides (fries, basmati rice, baked potato, galo chips, house salad or steamed veggies). The flame grilled chicken has a BBQ glaze that is really subtle even though I chose the hot version (you can get mild or extra hot too). I didn’t detect any heat at all. The chicken breast was slightly dry but the dark meat was more juicy. I think Chave D’Ouro still wins in the chicken category, though theirs is roasted and not grilled. My favourite were the chicken kebabs! The kebabs were super moist and flavourful — I’d totally go back for these! The chicken wings are battered and coated with a surprisingly good sweet chilli sauce; the sauce wasn’t overly sweet like it is at many places. As for the sides, the galo chips are a must! They are pretty much fresh fried chips but I loved that they are sliced very thin and seasoned really well — very addicting! The basmati rice had a very subtle rosemary flavour and even a touch of butter — delicious.
The BBQ Baby Back Ribs can be ordered in a meal with 2 sides for $ 16.99 or on its own for $ 12.99. You get a full rack of ribs but it’s not the fall off the bone type of ribs one might expect as it was a tad dry.
They have a pick up special — 1 whole chicken with fries for $ 14.99.
It’s a casual no frills sort of eatery where you order at the counter and then the food is delivered to your table. Service is exceptionally nice and helpful.
