Did not enjoy this restaurant at all. The waitress seemed totally uninterested in being there. Our drink orders took forever and we had to remind her multiple times for refills. It was a busy Saturday evening and we had a large group but I’ve been to busier restaurants with larger groups and had much better service. The pizza was tasteless and quite frankly it made me ill. Not to mention completely cold by the time it made it to our table. We also found the restaurant to be incredibly loud. Normally that wouldn’t bother me as our groups are usually to blame, however I don’t think a pizza joint should be blasting club music so loud you can’t hear the person sitting across the table from you. All in all I will definitely not be returning.

Good pizza that wasn’t burnt over over cooked. Terrific cocktails and wine! What stood out was the service — stellar wait staff who made for a great experience. The strip mall setting and interior belies a good place for pizza — don’t judge this book by its cover.

Had to wait 5 minutes for a table when there were several empty ones inside. The atmosphere is warm and cozy. Had the eggplant appetizer, ours came a little cold and a little tough but very tasty. The breadsticks were excellent, you could taste the difference from the coal fired oven.

Excellent service. Excellent thin crust pizza. What more could you want. Oh, okay a full bar, which they have.

Arrived at Carbone’s at 5:15 pm on a Saturday night with my family of 4 adults, they were very busy with no tables available so we sat at the bar. The restaurant is small so I would suggest if you are planning on going for dinner to make reservations ahead of time. We waited about 10 minutes before having our orders taken and waited another 30 minutes before receiving our salad without utensils, yet another wait. The Caesar salad was lacking in taste but after a 30 minute wait we were hungry(not sure how you can screw up salad). Our pizzas arrived 30 minutes later — Tyrol(Italian sausage, ham and sautéed mushrooms) the pizza was good but not really worth spending so much time waiting for. It seemed we did a lot of waiting, water glasses were only filled once my husband and son had to repeatedly ask for another drink — we had to wait again for the bill it wasn’t until my one son left the restaurant that a waitress asked if there was an issue — they took a whopping $ 6.00 off an $ 85 bill. It was interesting how they made the pizzas and watching the one chef spin the dough but the constant wait made for a lack luster experience.

A friend and I went to Carbone’s Coal Fired Pizza on Taylor Avenue on September 28th. Several other Unilocal-recommended Italian restaurants were unavailable due to being completely booked and it was entirely to our advantage for this to happen. We ordered the 16 inch Tyrol pizza and the greens salad and were treated to nothing less than the best pizza I’ve ever eaten. The cheese ham sausage and mushrooms were perfectly prepared and each had its own identifiable tasty addition to the whole. The salad had a wonderful variety of vegetables and just the right amount of vinaigrette. 3 minutes at 850 degrees is undoubtedly the perfect time and temperature. If you are ready for the best pizza you’ve ever eaten go nowhere else!

A great little pizza restaurant in Winnipeg, Carbone offers great crust, toppings and sauce for their main dish — pizza. Everything is fresh and the flavors are excellent. The Caesar salad is also good. When in Winnipeg you might want to try the excellent pizza of Carbone!

I’m reviewing the downtown Winnipeg –their new address on the corner of York Ave and St Mary’s — right by the new police station is not on Unilocal yet. We went there last Tuesday and initially, the staff was not very helpful. We wanted to sit outside after it had rained and the two staff on made a bigger deal out of that than was needed. The table got wiped in 10 seconds and it was fine. So, after our someone cool reception we enjoyed a great patio. It’s glass encased, they have heaters outside and the décor(both inside and out) is really nice. The food was very good. We had pizza and wings plus some drinks. The staff was friendly but not at all attentive. We had two drink mixups and the place only had about 12 customers in it so I could not understand that, however; I’d give this place another try because of the food and décor. The staff need to be more outwardly friendly and pay closer attention to customers.

Just no. Terrible service. Horrid pizza. No flavour, no substance. Seriously Domino’s Pizza is more«Italian» and tasty. They managed to make it both greasy and dry at the same time. Quite the accomplishment really. And it has the atmosphere of a Grade School lunchroom, only louder. Place has absolutely nothing going for it.

I will start this review with that I thoroughly enjoyed all of the pizza that I had with my family while visiting in Winnipeg. We had three pizzas and the one I enjoyed most had turkey meatballs and spicy eggplant on it. That pizza was to die for, I had never had such exotic toppings on a pizza before. But if it had not been for the waitress I would have easily given this restaurant at least four stars. She was obviously completely uninterested in being there and was not attentive at all. Other than her service the food was great.

Good pizza enjoyable salad, and last time here found they had changed their policy on wine to $ 10 over MLC, so the wine is now priced great for a restaurant. Yes we will make it back here again.

Just ate here for the first time and it was fantastic. Started with the caprese salad followed by an isabel pizza. Both were delicious. I particularly liked the pizza crust. Very soft and flavourful. On the con side, you can’t make a reservation for less than 10 people(I think) and it’s a pretty busy place so get there early. Not the cheapest place but doesn’t break the bank. Well worth the money

I still enjoy their pizza here — love the«peppino here! It has cherry tomatoes, prosciutto crudo, parmigiana, arugula and olive oil. I love how the arugula is tossed on after the pizza is cooked which gives the pizza a great fresh taste to it. I recently tried this place for lunch and had their paninis($ 8.95). I assumed they were the pressed and toasted sandwich but it’s not. The panini is more of a small sub. I tried the Italian Club panini which has prosciutto, calabrese salami, greens, tomatoes, mozzarella and dijon vinaigrette — which was pretty good without feeling overwhelming. Now someone with a bigger appetite and prefers more meat filling may not like this item as much but I thought it was a good sized sandwich. The very small portion of Greek salad was very good too, I just wished there was a tad more! Otherwise the only downside to the meal was the bread they used — it was very doughy and slightly dense. They have daily specials that run seven days a week. Tues/Thur are bring your own wine night($ 10 corkage fee). Service was friendly and food service was fairly prompt. A good casual place to grab a bite. Wish their chairs were more comfortable though(hard wooden chairs)!

I am a trained pizzaiolo in the vpn tradition so i just had to try the coal fired pizza. New York has many restaurants in this style so I just had to try the Canadian version Lombardi’s in NYC pales compared to this place as we have better cheese I started off with their salad which was the freshest salad i had in a while and the added chick peas and egg slices made it different The oven they have is hotter than the traditional gas deck oven so the pizza cooks quicker but also cooks the bottom fast. Black bits in the crust is normal and their thin crust pies are excellent with the outer crust being crispy. They get it right I really enjoyed this pizza A buck off wine by the glass is another deal One odd thing us they have Cholula brand mexican hot sauce. This is a culinary travesty as italian pizza deserves italian chili peppers but they are justing being fun and quirky. Wine is served in stemless glasses, and coffee in glass mugs. The interior is cool and trendy and a nice place to enjoy great food at reasonable prices. Service staff are young and friendly and a perfect spot to impress your date Pricing is reasonable and the owners care in providing high quality food

My wife and I are always looking for new gluten free/friendly options and this place came highly recommended. The gluten free pizza is so good that I’ll even eat it. We ordered a Margherita and Pepito with a Eggplant Parmigiana appetizer. Delicious and very satisfying. Check this out while it’s still a hidden gem.

If you like coal-fired pizzas and unusual toppings this may be the place for you. I found the crust to be done well, though a little floury, but the prepared pizza options didn’t really draw me in. I tried one to be a bit adventurous and discovered gorgonzola cheese cannot just be picked off — the flavour of blue cheese remains. For an appetizer we tried the coal-fire roasted chicken wings. They weren’t all that great and I wouldn’t have them again. But maybe they’re just not my thing. The Panini sandwiches look really good and I’m interested in trying the white bean hummus. I’ll likely try that the next time I go. It just seemed wrong to order anything but pizza on the first visit.
