Balkan cuisine in the heart of Windsor! Dino’s offers up some fast food Balkan food items for those who want to try it out. The food here is street food that was popularized all around the Balkan peninsula. The place itself in Windsor was nice. It had a small café feel to it, but with an incredible smell; the aroma of burgers, fries, etc. The service there was alright. The guys never looked too happy, but they were not at all mean. The menu is small and has several items such as pljeskavica(Balkan style burger) and cevapi(minced meat kabobs). The prices are all around $ 8 and they had a daily lunch special where you can get a combo(fries and pop) for $ 10. I ordered up the Balkan style burger(pljeskavica) with fries. The whole thing is HUGE. I know I say that for most, but this was ridiculously large. I’ve read that people from the Balkan peninsula are less than impressed by American burgers when they come here, and I can see why. The burger itself is a giant thin patty of Ontario raised, corn-fed beef. The meat was thin but was chargrilled and was seasoned intensely. I would almost say it was seasoned a bit too intensely as I thought it was pretty salty, but tasted great nonetheless. The burger comes served up on a fresh warm pita-like bun. The bread was incredible as it was soft and felt just like a pita. The only problem was that the burger was so massive that it kind of flopped around as i was trying to pick it up. The burger also comes topped with creamy garlic sauce, mushrooms, red peppers, onions, and other spices. The flavor is unique and I loved it. If it wasn’t for the fact that it was too salty, it would become a regular thing. It really was good. Now, fries are just fries normally, but I absolutely loved the fries here. Just fresh cut potatoes with just the right amount of salt served up hot and fresh. They were so crisp on the outside and perfectly tender on the inside. It’s a bit of a revelation for me to write more than just a sentence on fries. I may come here just to pick up an order of fries. Hopefully, this wasn’t a one-time lucky thing. If you’re tired of trying the same old, same old, I would recommend giving this place a try. It has some interesting items and is one of the only(if not the ONLY) place that serves up Balkan food in the area. The burger was fantastic and if it weren’t for the fact that it was a bit salty, the review may have been absolutely glowing. I loved the blending of flavors with all the different spices and toppings. Will definitely be coming back.
