Specialties

Both types of waffles are true Belgian recipes, made from scratch. The big unknown about Real Belgian waffles in North America made us create ‘wannawafel’.

First off we started with designing a mobile cart in 2009, serving only the Liège waffle, no toppings. They couldn’t belief it. At the end of our first outdoor season we decided to open up a cute little waffle heaven for the addicts we’ve created by now. Waffles all year round. Waffles are no longer breakfast only, we Belgians eat them all day long as snack waffles.

In 2010 we needed an events cart which became our TV star after appearing on the Openings episode of Season 5, CBC’s Dragon’s Den show.

Our creations have inspired many. Many more will follow but there will always be only one ‘wannawafel’. Our business is not only waffles, it’s our passion, it’s our life, it’s about people like you who care about local successful families. Your smile means a lot to us. Thanks for your visit.

Liege with strawberry compote.
Oh my gosh. We need to define the standard of waffles around this model. I got so schooled in waffles here it was like gutting a house and reflooring. This taught me a lot.
Okay. Two types of waffles here: liége (from a dough, dense and with a crispy caramel coating on the outside) or Belgian (batter, light, golden). You can pick from about 10 varieties give or take.
She said if you can smell something, that’s the liége. SOLD. GIMME DAT WAFFLE.
The owner is European and said hi while I ate. This joint was kinda sweetly tucked away in Market Square which explains why I had no memory of it despite having been in Zydeco the day before.
If you love waffles, this is worth a stop. However, I thought with chocolate and banana options I was sorely missing Nutella. And with 100% sweet options, it’d be nice to have one savory option. In Portland there’s a waffle (Waffle Window) with bacon brie and basil on a sweet waffle. Even just brie and a little apricot would be divine. So Nutella and at least one savory option would be great.

Very cool waffle place! Definitely a hidden gem. Had Brussels Waffle w/​Banana. For me the Brussels is not bad, but the Belgian Waffle is a lot better. Owner is very welcoming and inviting. Would definitely come back!!!

The best waffle i’ve ever had. As good as the intoxicating aroma that purveys LoJo. Be sure to stop by and grab a Liege Waffle for $ 4. Light, delicious and amazing. The syrup is magically baked in… life changing.

I discovered this gem about 4 years ago during our annual vacation to Victoria, British Columbia. The location is walking distance from the hotel, and the travel is worth it. Fruit Compote with your Wafel? Yes, please! And I will take fresh Strawberries on my second waffel. This brings me back to my childhood in Mons Belgium. I wish that they would open a place in Seattle.

Don’t go to the cart. Go to the actual store.
The store serves waffles to order and they are the best waffles I have had outside of Belgium, and are even excellent for Belgium.
1. Waffles are not supposed to be excessively sugary. Brussels waffles are supposed to be light, airy and melt-​in-​your-​mouth good. These fit the bill. The liege waffles are supposed to be a little sweeter and a little more chewy. These are perfect.
2. Toppings again should not be overly sweet. These people get it right. Like Europe, the whipped cream isn’t sweetened, it’s just whipped cream. Incredibly delicious whipped cream at that.
3. The fruit compote is amazing and the ice cream quality is great.
They are more expensive than average but they are vastly, vastly better than anything else in Victoria or Vancouver.
This should be one of your go-​to destinations in Victoria.

. This has forever set the standard for what a waffle should taste like. I had never heard of a liege waffle before, but now it’s the only type of waffle I want to eat. They are sweet and doughy in all of the right amounts. If you are visiting Victoria you can not skip over this place. Get there now!

Anyways, I digress.
We ordered one of each type of waffle. Just like the description states, the brussels waffle was airy and light. I ordered it with just powdered sugar. Maybe a little too airy… and light on the flavor? It was good, but nothing to rave about. On the liege waffle we added the berry topping. Definitely night and day between the two waffles. I think you’re better off getting the liege waffle with a topping if you’re looking for something a little more flavorful and filling.

OMG! We were walking around the street and all of a sudden we smells this sweet heavenly smell! It was the best thing I ever ate.
We got there at closing time, but they still served us, and didn’t push us out. They only had de liege waffle left, but that was enough.
I normally don’t like stuff on my sweet, so I just like powder sugar. We decided to get he fruit compose on the side for my husband.
This waffle is made out of a dough, instead of batter, and it is coated on a caramely glaze. To die for!
I’m not big into sweets, but can’t wait for them to open tomorrow an I can go get another one.

Had some liege waffles in New York a few weeks back and thought they were fantastic. These are even better. Yeasty, sweet, chewey… perfect. They have many options for toppings, but I’d say get them plain. They’re perfect in their simplicity.

The fruit compote is a must for you waffles. It reminded me of how my mom makes it. The waffle itself is just magical. I just wanted more! So I went ahead and bough one for the road.
They make their very own Belgium chocolate. Soo good.
When we went in on the first day, the owner himself was there and he is just an excellent person. He went around asking everyone how they are enjoying their waffles. We talked to him for a good 5 minutes and he told us about how they got started, they went on a show in Canada, kind of like Shark Tank, but later on he chose to go solo because he did not want to just have a chain restaurant, he was telling us he wanted quality of quantity. Well they sure got it!

If you like the Belgium style waffle, you’ll love wannawafel. Starts off sweet and then you get the yeasty taste. I’m not a fan of the yeasty taste, and don’t really like the after taste.
