Spoons Diner

We wanted to join the locals and we found Spoons after a night at the Fairmont. The eggs Benedict was fantastic the service great and the environment was what we were looking for. We are from SF and Houston TX

Ordered the «Gotta be Different» hash and received a portion large enough to feed a tiny country! The multi-​grain toast was delicious, it was buttered up and I topped it off with their peanut butter & strawberry jam, and OMG to-​die for! Ended up eating 1.5 pieces of toast with my PB&J and just a bit of my hash before I was stuffed and ready to pack my meal to go!
The hash was scrambled with Frank’s Red Hot Sauce which REALLY kicked the flavour up a notch — absolutely loved it! I also ordered a coffee which was nicely brewed!
Only downside is this is not a guilt-​free brunch place! Spoons is more of a greasy, hang-​over food type place. Saw lots of customers in full PJ get-​ups here lol! I’ll definitely be back when I want to indulge, but for healthier brunch options, I might opt for another restaurant!

PRO’S: A lot of good breakfast selection and it all looks good! I loved it! I am a huge pesto fan, so having eggs benny w/​pesto was great
CON: The eggs benny with pesto didn’t have any pesto taste! Which was a huge let down for me! Also, the has was not spiced at all! I like my hash to be crispy and flavored a bit!

We come to this place for breakfast a few times a month. We almost never have to wait and they give the most friendly service. Love all the Benny’s and the coffee is nice and strong. They also have a really fun meal called the Prusa. It’s chef’s choice and they let you flip a coin to pay for it or not! I haven’t eaten a bad one yet! Fun decide and they even give you Trivial Pursuit cards for entertainment.

Found this place randomly searching nearby late breakfast locations and was very impressed.
There was a lineup when we got there, and a lineup when we left and good reason for it. Outside of the fact that my Eggs Benedict was just great, everything I watched come out of the kitchen looked simply delicious.
I will certainly need to return and although I will have trouble deciding what to eat next visit, the milkshake will be a must after seeing them land on so many tables with smiling faces :)

This breakfast place looks like your typical greasy spoon diner stop on the outside, but it is a bit more unique than that. Spoons is located in a Super 8 Motel right off the 1 up in northern downtown Victoria. Since the place is attached to a motel, there is more than likely to be always be enough parking. The inside dining area (
) isn’t really quite big and isn’t really made for large parties. The restaurant serves breakfast and lunch up to 4 in the afternoon every day. They have a pretty good sized menu with a lot of unique things on their menu, such as a bowl of candy for your side at breakfast; They have griddle options but are kept at the back of the menu under «sweets».
The place didn’t seem to have too much business when I visited the place in the morning. You’d expect this place to be a bit busier since it’s connected to the motel. There was only one woman up front both doing register and service. She took our orders and was really talkative. The only thing that kind of stood out to me was their refusal to do any type of substitutions to their menu. What it says on their menu is what you get, if you want something different, it’s going to cost you. Fair enough I guess. I ordered the so called Breakfast Bake (
). The menu refers to it as a sort of breakfast lasagna dish that’s layered. It’s basically eggs, cheese, sour cream, salsa, beans and chipotle sauce layered together between tortilla shells. Unfortunately for me, this bake wasn’t really good in the slightest. The big bad had way too much sour cream in it, its literally all I could taste. After attempting to remove a bit of the sour cream, what was left was unseasoned dull tasting beans and a bit of eggs. The whole plate kind of came out luke warm, which wasn’t really good either, I don’t know if they made this on the spot or simply warmed it up. For my side I got grilled tomatoes, which actually tasted pretty decent. My friend had ordered an omelet and they said it was basically okay, nothing to really write home about. Also ordered a side of their mini pancakes (
) here. The pancakes were really thin, not fluffy, and had a weird spongy texture to them. I didn’t like them at all, wish they only gave me one.
This diner has some fun named unique dishes to its menu, but the food quality wasn’t really there for me. Most breakfast plates are going to run you about $ 12 – 15 per person and they’re pretty decent portion sizes. The coffee here wasn’t too bad, it was brewed fresh when I had arrived and was decent stuff. The service kind of lacked as well, the food took an awful long time to come out, especially for a restaurant that had only about 2 or 3 tables going at the same time. Spoons Diner seems to have lots of potential here and maybe I just came here on a bad day for them. My friend didn’t seem to think their food was too bad and my food wasn’t exactly disgusting by any means. I’d place this diner in the mediocre category, it’s not a bad place but not exactly the best Victoria is gonna offer you.

Great food, great value, amazing friendly service. I had the «on parliament hill hash» and it was awesome. Huge serving, and tasted great.

Decent breakfast, huge portions, nothing to go back for though. I would definitely prefer johns place when in Victoria next time.

Spoon’s Diner started out as another Floyd’s but has since evolved to find its own standing. We had not been there in over a year and when we did, we found the same charming atmosphere but, even better, a spectacular menu.
They have branched out on their breakfast fare, and while some have stuck close to the Floyd’s model (the Prusca vs the Mahoney), they are moving in different directions and catering to more specific tastes.
I had the CBR Hash (which is nice they have expanded their hashes from one to 7) and it was perfect. There was a great potato to other ingredients ratio and it was prepared excellently. We will certainly be adding Spoons to our breakfast rotation now

Great everytime. Service is friendly… Spoons makes me want to eat breakfast for every meal!

Family friendly, and your kid can eat a peanut butter packet while he waits. Parenting win! ;)

Just what I was looking for, an classic diner setting with quality food served fast and hot. I had a classic eggs, coffee, toast, hash browns and bacon and all were great. At the time I got a free coffee with a Unilocal coupon. Pleasant service and easy to get to.

I have eaten here four times in the last month and found the food quality to be really inconsistent. The only thing I can count on is that I will be lucky to get my coffee cup refilled so that I can have more than 1.25 cups before I finish my meal.
Portion size also seems to swing between adequate and ridiculous. I only have returned because my children like eating here, but I am on the lookout for somewhere new for them.

Great place for Breakfast!
Went in for a 10:00 brunch on Sunday, place was busy but food was served quickly! Friendly service, tasty food, & reasonably priced!
I’ll definitely be back on my next trip to Victoria.

Hands down fastest and absolute best eggs Benny I have had. I was waiting in line by myself, but the host made sure I got to sit at the bar. Took my order with cheer, and brought it to me within 5 minutes. This is how you do breakfast.

Serviceable breakfast place. Don’t let the fact that it’s attached to a hotel deter you. Good, greasy spoon diner with funky décor and very friendly staff. I wouldn’t wait a long time, but the line we encountered was not bad — we were probably sat within 15 minutes tops. Young crowd, a little noisy, but again a good place for a simple breakfast — didn’t blow me away, but I didn’t regret it either.

Best funky diner in town!!! If your feeling brave go for the Prusa! It’s whatever the kitchen feels like spitting out! Flip for it at the end and you may not have to pay!!! Best damn London Fog too!

They have Phillips beer.
And they know how to make a decent Paralyzer.
Large portions, hearty tasty food.
A good spot for a hangover breakfast.

Great spot — especially on weekdays when it’s quiet :)
Just know that the plates are piled high with food, so plan on taking some home or rolling out with a sore tummy!
My fav is the zurkes omelette and the berry and cream cheese stuffed pancakes!
Service is great — I love the bunny butts!

This year was the big Southward Family Vacation to Victoria, BC. Understandably, trying to get 10 folks in 2 cars to a restaurant in an unfamiliar place is like herding cats with alzheimers. But I found Spoons on Unilocal (YAY!) and became the hero of the day.
Matt greeted us at the door with a tiny look of shock at our numbers but he recovered quickly and smilingly set us up at a large table. I immediately felt more at home (Austin, TX) cause he had a tattoo on his neck and he was ADORABLE! All my nieces and I were instantly in love, only made worse by his sweet, easy personality. We immediately invited him to come with us on vacation which he politely declined but he did sit for pix with all of us like a good sport.
The café is retro kitsch and super cute with old movie posters and sock monkey art on the wall. The tables had trivia questions on them in a box that said, «You can dance with me all nite but you can’t take me home». Obviously this place had a sense of humor. That became even more clear when we noticed you could substitute your hash browns for a bowl of candy ($ 2). This was our first official stop in Canada and we were already in love, eh!
The menu selections were vast but hubby and I both gravitated to the «hash» which must be Canadian for Potato Mountain. We could and should have split one portion and would have still had enough to feed an orca. I swear that dish almost kilt my hubby, put him in instant food coma in mid bite (see pic). The «pancakes» my nieces ordered were more like skyscrapers covered in anything from fresh local berries to chocolate and bananas and whipped cream. Even tho the portions were almost obscenely huge, it worked out great. The leftovers saved me later after traveling the nauseating winding roads to get to our next adventure, ziplining.
Spoons was a great gateway to Canada for us Texans, eh!
