Mother Computers

Mother’s ripped me off. I went there to buy a printer to print wirelessly from my iPad, iPhone and PC laptop. I bought the Brother printer they recommended, took it home and found it would not print from my iOS devices. I contacted Mothers and they refused to give me an exchange, a store credit or a refund because the printer was now «used». They said it would cost them money, I asked «what about the cost to me». I talked to the manager, who said he talked to the owner. They all said they would do nothing. I recommend that we all take our business elsewhere.

We specifically asked for a desktop that could take our external harddrive internally. They assured us that was possible with the one they were offering. We bought it and left them to transfer data. We received no phone calls and when we picked it up they said they couldn’t install the harddrive and that we could use it externally. Since we bought it specifically for that purpose and they specifically told us it would be possible, we were not happy but they not only would not offer us anything, they did not admit that it was false advertising. Since all our data was now transferred onto the new computer we were stuck and they are laughing all the way to the bank. They scammed us and lied to us. I would not go to this store or recommend anyone take a chance on finding satisfaction here. Shysters.

Although I haven’t been in some time, I’ve only had two experiences with mother computers, and they were enough to cause me to vow never to return. I was treated poorly, I was insulted, I was offered poor advice, I was overcharged for items. (I am a comptia A+ tech with a computer systems technology degree as well).
When I spoke with the manager or owner to voice my concerns, I was brushed off and it seemed clear that I was wasting his time and he couldn’t care less. This is the first and only computer store that I’ve ever said I would tell everybody not to go to… and I’ve done exactly that after the horrific treatment I received. It was truly disappointing, especially making it clear that I was in the PC service industry and resold many parts, that the owner just didn’t think I was worth giving two $#!T$ about after being treated extremely poorly by other staff.

This is a nice little store for computer parts, but definitely not as good as it was a few years ago.
When they first opened, they were one of two stores in town that had a good selection of computer parts for serious modding and customizing. And the guys working there were all tech-​geeks who could discuss anything easily.
Unfortunately time and success have not been good to them. In the last year they have removed all the modding supplies, no more gamer cases on display, and the selection of computer parts is worse than Future Shop or even Staples only two blocks away. And while those places have increased their online presence, Mother Computers has slowly removed content from their website.
The last three visits I found the staff to be the usual poorly trained type from any of a hundred other shops — not the devoted tech hobbyists anymore. They no longer discuss possible solutions to problems — just sell you whatever part is handy.
Right now they are a half a star above Future Shop or Best Buy (which are both about to move in next door to them) but if they slip anymore there will be no point going there anymore.
It is sad to see them go from a great geek hangout to a bland ordinary computer shop identical to so many others.
