A friend took three of us to this place during a day trip to Victoria and every one of us had a blast. For a $ 5 all-you-can-play fee, there is almost every type of board game imaginable available for guests to play. If you find something you really like, they also sell the games at the front. Being a café, they serve sandwiches, drinks and snacks, and they even make their own ice cream(with dairy free options!) After ordering a bowl of popcorn to share and an artisan root beer from Phillips Brewing, my bill came to $ 11 for a whole evening of entertainment. The staff were friendly and the business is conveniently located downtown. Not a whole lot to dislike — five stars for you.

Have you ever wished you could go hang out with your friends and play all kinds of board games? No? Well, I have. Mostly because I dont love board games, yet I dont own many of them. Interactivity is so awesome! It is basically a café with hundreds of different board games you can play while hanging out with friends. They charge you for your drink, and then per person for the table. So you can hang around for hours, yet still just pay the $ 5 per person for the game. The coffee drinks are okay, and the guys who work there are friendly. Definitely a place I plan on frequenting often!

This place is awesome and open late! Just wish they served alcohol and had Cards Against Humanity. Maybe not b/c there are kids there as well. Anyways, it’s a good time if you’re out of ideas for things to do on a night out!

We wer visiting from Vancouver and our friend brought us to this café, it’s kind of cool how you can pay 5 $ per person and stay there all day. I wish one of these was in Vancouver. Although if we weren’t with a friend we probably wouldn’t had known the rules of 5 $ each and you pay when you leave, all we got was a bowl of candy(which I think was creative) and a couple of milk shakes to go. The game selection is almost intimidating, but you can ask the staff about rules, I mean they don’t know all the rules of all the games, but it’s nice you can ask. I would have to agree about the customer service complaints though, they do seem a little lack lustre when coming to assist you, but thief milkshakes are great! Chai and pumpkin pie were the flavours we got! And seriously the pumpkin pie tasted like liquid pumpkin pie!

I’ve been here numerous times and the games are always fun. However, the customer service and quality of food and drink could be improved. On my most recent visit the cashier was rather abrupt and could have been a bit more polite. We arrived at about 2pm on a rainy Sunday and were told that it would be an indefinite wait for a table, even though there was a small table free near the door. He then scoffed at me when I asked him how long he thought the wait would be and acted like I should have known better than to have asked. As I had to catch a bus to the ferry in two hours I was working with limited time constraints. He said that since they have no time restrictions on play he couldn’t even hazard a guess. Finally a lovely older gentleman who worked their chimed in. He mentioned that the small table by the front door was free and that we could be seated there. He even brought us over and extra chair for the third member of our party. And when he saw that our table was too small to hold all of the pieces for our selected game he brought over a bar stool for us to use as extra table space. He was absolutely lovely and is the reason that this review has three stars instead of one or two. Now the food and drinks can be summed up in one word«meh.» The drinks often arrive lukewarm. The chai that I’ve had was unimpressive and the matcha was quite bitter. The milkshakes and popcorn aren’t bad. All in all their board game selection is great. And it’s lots of fun if you can get a table. Only set backs are some of the employees(mainly the ones exuding a Jay and Silent Bob aesthetic) and the mediocre food and drink.

I walked by this store about three times, while visiting victoria for the weekend. Curious from out side as it seemed relaxed and welcoming. I was lucky to go out later that night with a friend who suggested we drop by here to start the night. WOW! First it is very relaxed. You come in and are not greeted but made to feel that you are welcome to explore, check the menu, check the huge signs for prices and how things work. The moment you engage the staff they are extremely friendly, eager to please you make you feel comfortable. The MILKSHAKES brought my taste buds to the yard! Yummy! I did not sample their menu but what I saw was fresh and simple. I really appreciated the friendly and extremely knowledgeable staff. They all seemed to enjoy a variety of styles of board games. IBG is perfect for a family afternoon, a date, hang with friends… too fun, we were one of the last to leave at around 1am. A great alternative to bars.

Had a great smoked salmon sandwich with chips and a pot of Jewel of India tea. Great combination. The staff were friendly, but busy with making milkshakes for a group that was there. They helped answer a couple of questions. I will definitely come back for the food, and hopefully for the chance to toss a few dice with someone. Also, they have slot car racing on Saturdays… that was cool to see.

Coming here today was a bit of a letdown. My boyfriend and I were in town from Seattle and the Clipper leaves at one time — 6pm. So we had an entire afternoon to kill after visiting for a fun 3 day conference. We wanted to see some sights and with some time leftover and feeling dead on our feet after walking more than 7 miles, we found this games store. As avid board game players and fans of similar style shops in the US, we darted across the street to come see if they had anything we needed to buy. Approaching the entrance I noticed that more than just a games store, it’s actually a café where you can buy food, drinks, and even sit and test games. They have an incredible selection of new games and an equally impressive opened games library for people to test and play in-store. So what’s the bummer? The customer service is atrocious. There were three employees milling about and talking to each other. At no point did anyone acknowledge us, and worse yet, the employees were ranting about annoying customers and habits people have that bother them. Right in front of us! Not 5 ft away. Complaining about people changing their reservations for tables, complaining about when people show up with fewer or more people than they’d booked a reservation for, etc. And I know that it’s frustrating to serve people who might be totally out of the loop when it comes to the service industry, but the biggest mistake here wasn’t the consumers, it was the business. Who talks shit about customers in front of other customers? It was so off-putting that my boyfriend and I decided not to buy anything here. After browsing for about 10 minutes I took a seat with the intention of testing a game. Because I didn’t want to be rude and play a game without buying anything to eat/drink, I approached the counter to ask about buying a coffee and a snack. In a rude tone the employee asked«Well are you staying here to play or just shopping? Because if you want to play games it’s $ 5 a person.» And it wasn’t that she was angry, she was just speaking to me as if I should have known about this policy. But how? There are no signs posted, we weren’t welcomed when we came in, we weren’t greeted or waved to and no one approached us to let us know. «Hi, welcome! Please shop all you’d like. And if you want to test or play games, check out our library. We just ask that people pay $ 5 each to play.» But nope… We find out 10 mins later, after buying coffee. So no thanks. We’ll take our money and our business elsewhere. So sad that when we thought we saw a cool place to hang out, rest our feet, play and maybe buy games, we felt unwelcome and unappreciated.
