Description

Specialties

Hello World Daycare Centre is owned and operated by Nicole Nie Bowden. Born in China, Nicole completed her education at the University of Victoria, earning a Master’s in Curriculum Design. She has a broad range of experience, from education administration to the montessori method of instruction, in both China and Canada. This provided Nicole with the global perspective that was the inspiration for her in-home multi-age daycare. First and foremost, Hello World provides a happy and safe environment for children. The curriculum program is adapted to support a child’s daily process of discovery, while also providing some repetition and queues to help them understand and form routines. Children of all ages attend Hello World and are encouraged to play together and learn from eachother, much as they would at home. In additon, one region of the world is featured each month and the children learn a story and song from that culture. The children are primarily taught in English, but are offered the opportunity to learn phrases in Mandarin. This supports a child’s amazing ability to learn multiple languages before the age of seven. Parent’s whose first language is not English are encourged to use that language at home and to introduce their language and culture to the children at Hello World. We believe this creates a supportive and inclusive learning environment, where children of all ages can learn about the big world around them in a safe home environment.

History

Established in 2012.

Hello World Daycare was established in January 2012 when Nicole was about to finish her maternity leave and her daughter Rae was 10 months old. It started as a license-not-required daycare for 3 children in an apartment on Newton Street for 8 months. In September 2012, Nicole and her husband Rian relocated the daycare it it’s current location on Westall Avenue, and opened with a fresh look. In April 2013, the daycare was licensed as an In-Home Multi-age group for 8 children and was officially registered as Hello World Daycare Center.
