I have a short style and get it cut every 3 weeks. Prior to coming to Victoria I would get irritated with my hair after only a couple weeks and wish I could actually go get it cut again sooner. Now when she cuts it I find I’m fine the whole time and am happy with how my hair looks throughout the time in between. She’s really good at hearing what I want and still using her expertise to make sure the style looks good and works with my type of hair and head shape, etc. And she’s friendly too so it’s always nice to chat with her!

I highly recommend Franco Frederico, owner of Workshop Salon. The first time I went to see Franco, I was going through a painful break up with my boyfriend. Franco’s exceptional hair cut and colour, as well as kind caring service left me walking out feeling so beautiful, it didn’t matter!
Over the past six years, I continue to see him. He keeps my style fresh and updated and he is maticulous in hiring assistants who give the most amazing scalp massages! As my hair is starting to grey with age, Franco’s top (ammonia free) natural colour products keep my hair beautiful and shiny for up to 2 months after I see him.

Victoria at Workshop Salon is AWESOME. I’m so glad I found her.
My first cut with Victoria she asked me what I like and made a few suggestions on what would work best for my face shape and hair type. After she was done I wanted a few little changes and she went in and made the touch ups I asked without being offended.
She must have written notes on my file, the next cut I went in for, she remembered all my little details! Now I just show up and sit down, Victoria has figured out what I like and always does a little something new with my hair. When she does something new, she makes sure I am comfortable with it and it always turns out great.
She emails when she is planning vacation and around the holidays so you don’t miss a cut.
All around she is a pro.
The salon itself is pretty cool, in a heritage type building, they offer tea/​coffee/​water when you walk in. Good atmosphere, lots of product to choose from. Super close to Skytrain. Ask for Victoria!

I HIGHLY recommend that you get JYOTI to do your hair if you’re someone who wants a modern look with a little edge.
I am a working professional and I work in an office, so I need a professional look that doesn’t take too long to style in the mornings. But I also want something that reflects my personality, a little edgy and modern. Usually when I ask stylists for this, I end up with a cut that resembles an 80’s mom… Not good. I have very thin, very frizzy, curly hair (other curly haired girls feel my pain and know how difficult it is to find a stylist who can actually cut curls properly). It tends to look flat and dull, and I can’t stand products that make my hair feel crunchy. Jyoti understood this even without me telling her, and really was able to add volume to my hair, and even took the time to show me how to style it at home so I wouldn’t have frizz, WITHOUT any crunchy product!
My curls look so glamorous now, and my hair has volume and bounce, something that I never thought I could get. The frizz is blessedly under control and my hair has depth.
Also for a cut, highlights and styling, Jyoti charged me a super fair price, and explained to me how to maintain my look when my hair grows out.
Jyoti is the only stylist I have ever found who can tame my curly frizzy hair and I HIGHLY recommend her because of this. A++++

Walked in at 1:00pm on a Thursday and they were able to accommodate. Jyoti gave me a great men’s haircut for $ 42.

I love the atmosphere of this place, it’s very trendy but relaxing. Haida has been my hairdresser for maybe…10 years now? I have to say, I adore her. She does a fantastic cut, and is lightening fast with blonde highlights. She also puts up with my frequent colour changes («Oh red today. No wait, brown. Wait, do you have time to do blonde highlights?») Not only that, but she always has interesting stories, but also senses when I just want to flip through a magazine or doze in the chair. I wish more people could read my mind like that.

Love this place. I have been to some kick ass salons in New York City and this salon reminds me of a Soho salon. I love the exposed brick, kick ass music, high energy and genuinely cool staff who chat away with you, and make sure you have tea or water and give you cool robes to wear. It’s just a full service experience for amazing value. My girl is Pam, she’s a power house who can conquer dying my hair black without leaving that awful dye around my hairline, and she blows it out like I walked out of a hair commercial. Check it out!

I had the pleasure of going to Workshop Salon for about 6 months as I followed my AWESOME stylist there after she left another establishment. It’s conveniently located close to the Chinatown Skytrain stop and there is a cool little area of the street that is being gentrified — including this wonderful salon.
SAMANTHA FOX is THE BEST colourist and stylist on the planet! She always guided and suggested tips for my hair at every appointment. I was growing it out from very short to almost shoulder length. She basically gives you a hair plan if you are growing out from short to longer. I loved that!
My hair always looked amazing after the cut and after the first wash. She helped me learn how to properly style my kind of hair. I never had bad hair after seeing her for the first time.
Now I live in California and I will tell you that even after almost 10 months here I have NOT been able to find a stylist who can match Samantha’s skills, her expertise and her AWESOME welcoming nature. I am so sad I couldn’t move her here with me.

Definite repeat, esp. if you get Victoria. Impressed how she & her guy started this business just last June, and pretty funky location, heritage all over.
Treatment is great: let you change out of your shirt in a changing room, plus a couple of additional robes to make sure tiny hairs don’t seep through.
Thorough wash, scalp massage, and as she says, no cookie-​cutter style as everyone’s different style/​shape of head lol.

Haida has cut my hair for close to 9 years now. I cannot say enough good things about her. Her personality and talent make every cut a pleasure. I have thick hair that is quite difficult to cut, but she is always able to cut and style it to my liking.

I came to this amazing space to see Karyn R. Karyn cut my curly hair when I lived in Vancouver from 2008-​10 and I have visited her twice since moving back down to the States because nobody cuts like her. Nobody. I work in the performing arts and my appearance is –like it or not– an important component of my «brand.» Karyn works thoroughly takes her time with each curl as well as sculpting the greater mop that is my hair. Did I mention she is REALLY cool, too? Ask her about traveling or belly dance…
Or if you don’t feel like talking, that’s fine too. She used to just let me chill out with trashy magazines while she worked her magic. Wherever you are in your day, Karyn meets you there then elevates you that much higher so that by the time you leave her chair you look AND feel better. Good deal, right?
The space itself is this beautiful, street-​level, open studio and they have tea, coffee, and water. It seemed like the other stylists were awesome as well — generally just an overall «good vibe» at the Workshop Salon.

Not only is Workshop Salon a really cool atmosphere, and located in a very cool area of town next to some great restaurants and café’s, but the people who work there are amazing! My hairdresser, Pamela Shapiro, always caters to my needs, is friendly and professional. On top of being an amazing stylist and colourist who I recommend to anyone and everyone, Pam always makes me feel like an appreciated client.

I had a social shopper voucher for a wash, deep conditioning, scalp massage, and style.
The salon is neighbour to BC Place and Rogers Arena; the salon itself is very nice: large and spacey, with a modern vibe. My stylist was Victoria who was incredibly friendly and talkative. She offered me tea, coffee, and cucumber water.
The mechanics of the salon is like any other; my hair was washed and she massaged my scalp while I had the Moroccan oil conditioner in my hair. Then my hair was blow dried and styled with volume and curls. Victoria knows what she’s doing; I have never had a stylist treat my hair so gently! Have you ever had experiences where you feel like the stylist is scraping your scalp, pulling your hair out? Victoria was the complete opposite of that which shows that you don’t need to withstand pain to get a great blow out.
I’m very happy with my curls; they lasted through the windy sky train stations, usually a disaster with my curls because they fall straight in an instant, but Victoria really believes in her curling iron! I was prepped with mousse and had a finishing spray.
Overall I had a good time; vouchers can be really hit and miss. The only thing I feel iffy with is their regular prices~ it’s definitely on the steep side!
**Note: they only take cash! Hopefully they’ll get a carding machine soon.

OMG OMG OMG What do I do??? What am I freaking out about? My barber/​stylist moved! Yeah, that’s right, I’m a straight guy and I have a hair stylist and she moved!
All is good though! I found out where she went and she moved to Workshop! *whew*
Nothing has changed with her except she is in a much nicer shop. The remarks below are pretty much a carbon-​copy of what I wrote about her last shop. I have never done this with any review because I had never dealt with a barber/​stylist so awesome. The owner, Franco is also kick-​ass. The salon was his dream and now he is living it and sharing his passion with the team and the customers.

«Very seldom do I come across a barber/​stylist that takes the time to listen and converse with me to find out what I need. I didn’t even tell her what style I wanted but she just knew from our conversation what I needed. I trust my stylist and I give her free reign to do what she does best.
That stylist is VICKY. That’s all you need to know.
I walked out out with a kick-​ass cut and felt like a million bucks. That’s just the kind of effect she had on me! The next day, my co-​workers re validated the work she did!

I would give her 5 stars but I don’t to get filtered although she deserves all 5 of them! I get my hair done by Karyn who has just moved here from another salon in Yaletown. I am really happy with the new location because it’s a 1 minute walk from the Chinatown/​Stadium skytrain. The Workshop Salon is light and airy with hardwood floors and exposed brick. The windows allow in lots of natural light. It is also immaculately clean and I found both the hair wash seat and station seat comfortable.
I really struggled with finding a hair dresser who knew how to cut and care for my hair and I find Karyn genuinely listens to my wants and advises me honestly. She has given suggestions on the best way to approach a particular look that I want or offer an alternative if my hair goals aren’t realistic. She has been cutting my hair for just over 3 years now and I have been thrilled every single time. I would much rather have a stylist who wants me to look my best than someone who will let me look bad, I have never had so many compliments on my hair since she has taken care of it.
She is always friendly but still professional and punctual. My appointments start with a good consultation and she takes into consideration my hair type, lifestyle and current hair goal. I have grown my hair out from a very short bob to past my shoulders under her guidance without having to endure that awkward ‘growing out’ phase.
I also like that she has product available for sale but has never been pushy about up selling. She usually will demonstrate a product on me so I can see how it will look and work in my hair and is happy to style it with my natural curls or a more sleek straight look. Karyn specializes in cutting curly hair but I have also been impressed by the colour work she has done on me.
I have waited for weeks if I am out of Vancouver just so she can cut my hair rather than risk another stylist. I really can not recommend her highly enough.

I have been a client of Franco’s for over 5 years and I’ve always been amazed by his capabilities to make my naturally curly hair well layered, frizz free, and convenient for my life.
I love that he cuts my hair dry and straight cause it makes for a good night out hair do. I also get the option of wearing it curly or straight-​bonus!
He’s very inviting and chatty, yet professional and concise.
The shop is bright and clean with huge floor to ceiling windows, nice brick walls and a comfy waiting couch.
Location is awesome: a 2 minute walk from Stadium skytrain, and there is also a parkade right across the street from the salon.
Extra bonus: it’s beside Medina-​so you can grab a lavender latte!
I’m very excited to see his new shop grow and develop into something great!
