Imagine you and your friends as a team of crack detectives, out on the streets of Gastown solving a mysterious murder. Or as secret agents, working together to stop an evil organization who are hell-bent on Vancouver’s destruction. With Vancouver Mysteries’ two-hour urban games Crime in Downtown and Secret Mission, now you have the chance.
You and your team will move from location to location as you work together to find clues, solve puzzles and crack the case. The route of each game is carefully designed to pay homage to Vancouver history, architecture and culture while immersing you in an exciting fictional world.
HOW IT WORKS
A Game Operator meets you at a secret downtown location — only a few minutes’ walk from Waterfront Station — to deliver the mystery scenario and hand over the game kit.
After that, it’s up to you and your team — Vancouver Mysteries urban games are self-guided experiences where you’re in charge.
Everything you need for the game is contained within the provided game kit — including a game book, map and various mystery-solving tools.
Along the way, you’ll find hidden clues, solve puzzles and decrypt codes to unravel the mystery.
Once the mystery is solved, you’ll rendezvous with your game operator to debrief and receive your score.
Whether you’re a local or just visiting Vancouver, everyone discovers something new — about the city or your companions — while playing a Vancouver Mysteries game!
History
Established in 2013.
Vancouver Mysteries was originally founded by a Frenchman — Sevan Flament — in 2013. Inspired by urban games companies he had experienced in his home-town of Paris, he decided to build something similar in Vancouver.
When Sevan wanted to move home to France, he approached fellow tourism business owner Will Woods with a proposition — would he be interested in purchasing the company? Will tried out one of the games. He was impressed and intrigued, but already had his hands full running his own business, historic walking tour company Forbidden Vancouver.
However, he knew Tanya Bennett — one of his storytellers at Forbidden Vancouver — had considerable business experience and would be a great fit at the helm of Vancouver Mysteries.
So in the space of two years, Woods and Bennett have gone from strangers to colleagues to friends to business partners. They purchased Flament’s games and formed the new company Vancouver Mysteries Inc. in April 2014. The rest is history!
