Vancouver Foam

Dropped off a brand New Mexican blanket to make two cushions for a kids couch project I was doing. My first impression of him was that he was very friendly– but a weird friendly that got into my personal life and had nothing to do with why I was there. I got a quote done over the phone before going in. When I went into the store he said it will be 30 dollars more than the initial quote, even though we decided to do less work (one less zipper and less material size). I was okay with it and agreed to it.
9 days after dropping off the material he calls me and tells me the Mexican blanket is fraying and will be 100 dollars more to work with the material. I said it was out of my budget (which is now 130 over what they quoted me on the phone and 9 days later) so I said I could not go through with it and I will just get it done somewhere else.
When I went to pick it up with my boyfriend, to my surprise one of the cushions was almost completely made– all that was left was to sew the zipper on. The raw seam left for this was frayed a little; something even I could fix and I am by no way a seamstress. How he had cut and sewn three other sides of the cushion (it’s the same fabric!) with ease did not make sense to me. Why the problem now? Reinforce the corner… Fold it over, I don’t know. Not my problem and definitely not paying 100 dollars extra for him to figure it out.
My boyfriend asked why he did not try a test patch of fabric to see how it would interact if he was not familiar with it. He began to explain how he had worked with hat manufacturers before that test fabric when people want stuff made out of weird material. Before he could get two words in, the man at Vancouver foam told him to stop talking and that he was tired of listening to his «gangsta» nonsense. Yes, he said gangsta with an ‘a’. Completely uncalled for, demeaning and inaccurate as my boyfriend was very respectful, articulate and just trying to rectify the problem and understand what went wrong.
He threw the foam at me and I took my extra fabric. We went with a thicker foam on the bottom for strength and a lighter one on top– he said these would be glued together (like the example he originally showed me). When I picked them up they were not glued together. He said it was so you could replace the top part with wear.
Every interaction with this man was time consuming. He asked me weird questions about my personal life. Just a weird experience all together. He was all over the map.
To end the story, I brought it to a small Italian shop. I brought in the half made cushion and explained what Vancouver foam had told me– he laughed, told me to stop talking and that it was his problem now how to fix it and that he would have it done the next day– and for less money. He also wondered why Vancouver foam left it not glued as the pieces will shift in the cover of they are not. Easy peasy.
Just save your time and money and go somewhere else! Weird weird weird.

The husband and I needed some extra padding added to our old futon until we get a «real» bed, because we are supposed to be grown ups. The folks at Vancouver Foam were wonderful.
When we first walked in we asked to have some foam cut to size. They took the time to ask us what we were intending on using it for. They then had us try some option out and explained the pros and cons of the different products. We walked out of there with something way better than what we had originally planned on.
Our futon has new life, but we’re still planning on getting a grown up bed very soon.
We are grown ups!

Chris and Katie at Vancouver Foam are friendly knowledgable and professional. Chris offered me several options to replace the top bunk foam in my 87 Westfailia. We ended up going with a two layer solution with the bottom layer being a higher density composite. This is the reason to seek the advise of a professional. I’m happy I did not go it alone since I would not have had the wisdom to multi layer. Chris went out of his way to be helpful and available. I’m happy with the service, value and overall experience. I’ll be back for more custom work in the future.

I bought a couple of foam mattresses here to replace a couple of aging foams that I use for camping. The difference was night and day. After a couple of nights with my old foams, my wife and I had very uncomfortable back and hip pain. I am happy to say that we were able to camp on the ground for three weeks with no pain at all with these new foams from Vancouver Foam. We paid a little more than than we might have at a discount foam store, but the quality of the foam was well worth it. Who knew there were so many different kinds and qualities of foam?

If you’re looking for foam this is the place to go. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly in helping me find a mattress. They beat all the prices of the other foam stores I went to. Highly recommended and excellent customer service!
