Vancouver Community College Continuing Education

The courses offered and instructors seem to be on par if not a level above other Vancouver Colleges.
It’s the design and layout of the building that inspires me to write this review. Every time I step foot into the building I feel as if I am an unwilling participant in the practical part of a social psychological student thesis.
How do I get to my room? There is an elevator here, and another over there, but that one looks like a service elevator, parking is where? And the directional signage has some sort of dyslexia going on so you would see something like this: «rooms 210−189» (with an arrow signifying to go that-​away) Ok, I really need to pee and don’t have time to play hide and seek with the potty right now!
My advice: For your first class arrive 30 minutes early to give yourself enough time to get lost and then found again.

I’m very thankful that they run classes in the evening for adults for courses that range from technical, arts, hobbies and even upgraded and or refining on certain career categories. I sign up for a course or two every 3 months for both pleasure and to upgrade my skills and training to ensure that I’m relevant and up to date with my current career. Times are convenient for most courses. Most of the instructors that I’ve had thus far have been awesome. I find the prices for the courses very reasonable. In the past year they’ve expanded their language section to more than just the basic Asian languages and are offering European languages for travel.

Gong show. I have been taking classes online for just over a year through VCC. I have also previously been to Kwantlen College, and gotten a diploma, so its not like this is my first experience with post secondary education.
Registering for classes through VCC is a joke. I was accepted into the program by the department head and I basically have to email him whenever I want to register for a class. He will drop me into the class and then I call admissions and pay for it. It sounds easy, but its not.
For some reason whenever I call admissions they tell me I am not registered for anything. I get transferred around, nobody knows what to do, get transferred some more because continuing education online is a different department that regular classes, basically it ends up taking me a few hours on the phone or even a few days to get this sorted out, and usually it involves me contacting the department head and being like WTF?
Sure, I like the flexibility of taking classes from home at my leisure, but the amount of time I waste on the phone every two months to try and register for a class doesn’t really make up for the time I save by taking classes at home. This is the most inefficient way of registering for classes I have ever seen!
Now let’s talk about the online teachers… sure I like getting straight A’s who doesn’t? But when the reason you are getting straight A’s is because 50% of the teachers who are teaching online forget to log into the class or are too busy with their personal lives to mark your papers, what is the point? Am I learning anything at all? Will I get hired after I finish this program? Can’t they get another teacher to step in since the one I currently have is MIA? Is anybody going to answer my questions or are they just going to glance over my paper to see if its done and feel guilty and give me 100%? I can hardly wait until I am done this program. What a crock of shit. Good thing I can claim this on my taxes otherwise I would want my money back.
