For sushi in a food court, the food and the price is what you would expect. The cashier who served was pleasant and quick. The sushi was A-ok. The spicy tuna rolls were at the right temperature, the rice tasted fresh and the taste was good. Faced with the options at that food court, I would go back.

the food is quite Ok but the cashier is took more than it should be. When I asked, the cashier said no, and then said will later. Next time I’ll be more careful.

I wasn’t sure what I was eating. I went to the coal harbour location and ordered the seafood teriyaki. There was no other customer there but I had to wait 15 min to get my food because the chef was constantly chatting and joking with the cashier. So my first bite was the yam tempura. It was slightly bigger than a toonie. I couldn’t bite through it so I had to spit it out. The seafood teriyaki had cheap fish balls in it. The brown rice tasted really old or maybe it wasn’t cooked or stored in a clean container. Just a bad weird taste. The shrimp was so stale I couldn’t eat it. Overall it was a gross meal.

Not is if I came on a bad day, however, their sushi selection was less to be desired at prices they shouldn’t have been asking for. The avocado didn’t look fresh.

This location is gross, don’t ask me why. But the one at Metrotown knows how to make their stuff, and with their closing sales every night, you can walk away with a dinner steal.(Dynamite, salmon avocado, and watermelon juice stand out.)

This is a great place to pick up some quick Japanese food before running back to work. Yes, it is pre-packaged and not exactly gourmet, but if you need a quick Sushi fix this is a decent and convenient spot to pick up a california roll or two.

Yikes. $ 8.95 for a pre-prepared box featuring a few pieces of california and a few dynamites at around noon. It wasn’t very good. Rice tasted old. Both shrimp and(fake) crab meat were no better. Any chance I picked up one of the boxes that hadn’t been sold the day before? Tasted like it. Note to self: when it comes to the food court, it is better to have food that is made in front of you. If you are in the PC food court, try Thai Express, Vina, even A&W instead.

Not going to lie, the food selection in Pacific Center sucks. They were my one hope of deliciousness for lunch. The darn food court needs to be revamped, crappy selection turns to crappy decision. Ordered their ‘Special Combo’. Worst $ 8 I ever spent. It was your choice of a beef/chicken teriyaki, on rice, served with veggie tempura and 4 pc sushi. The meat was UNBELIEVABLY tough and chewy, I tried to eat it, but I would end up spitting it all back out. Not to mention my tummy has not been happy with me the last 2 days. I highly doubt it was ‘freshly made’, more like freshly microwaved. The only one thing that was decent in the bento was the veggie tempura. For everyone’s sake, please do not spend your $ 8 here.

By one get one half off at 4pm isn’t too bad. As you can gather, ‘express’ sushi rolls aren’t top notch and I prefer fresh-made over ready-made any day, but it’s not a bad deal if you want a healthy(but filling snack) while conferencing around.

Yet another fast food sushi place in the food court. The food is edible, but always average tasting and the fish is thinly sliced. I come here when I’m desperate for some raw fish and unable to go anywhere else.

Sushi, they say, is all about the rice. Distinct grains of rice, cooked so they’re just soft enough to complement the fish and hold themselves together. Delicately seasoned with rice wine vinegar flavoured with an understated blend of aromatics. So where the hell does a sushi vendor get off selling california rolls wrapped in what appears to be solid strips of congealed acetic pudding. Have some pride.

Umi Sushi gets the dubious honour of being my very first two star review. This is where I used to go when I was in a rush at lunch and didn’t want to go far or wait for sushi. Their prices are high given the quality of the food. The food has always been so-so. The yam rolls and assorted nigiri I’ve had in the past were slightly less than mediocre. However, after my last experience with their dynamite roll, it’s doubtful that I’ll ever come back. The roll looked and tasted stale. The tempura shrimp was partly black and the taste was rather off. I ended up picking out the tempura shrimp and eating the rest of the roll because I was really hungry. While I recommend against it, if you do want to buy food here, look at it very closely before purchasing.

I got the Brown Rice California Roll(8 pcs; $ 4.80 after tax) — why you such a soggy sushi? Saddest sushi roll I’ve ever seen — cut unevenly, squished on one end of the packaging, and a couple were crumbling apart. Sushi rice was soggy and too sweet(too much sushi vinegar?). There was minimal avocado, maximal imitation crab. I could just eat the wad of wasabi and only taste a slight sting on the tongue. But you know what? When I want something small and«healthier» from the PC food court, this’ll do in a pinch.

I have had my share of issues with ready-made/fast food sushi places but this location has always been a bit of a surprise for me. The selection is better than most to go type sushi places and always seems fresh. I have never been unsatisfied when I have decided I need a quick sushi fix. If someone is looking for a quick in and out kind of snack of the healthy variety, I would definitely choose this place. The Cali rolls are decent size and tasty, the miso is hot and ready to go and the sunomono is good. I did have one problem with the edamame but it was insignificant, it just wasn’t spiced the way I like. One must expect these things when in a hurry :)!.

Usually I’m not a fan of the ready-made sushi spots. Who knows how long it has lingered! But Umi Sushi has consistently left me pleased and with a full belly. There is a nice selection here of the typical maki rolls: California, dynamite, veggie, yam… and only once out of the 20+ lunches I’ve eaten here have I been unhappy. And that was because the rice was under-cooked. The miso is hot and ready-packed. It’s such a fast option if you’re looking for an accelerated lunch. The only thing that grates me is that people hop back and forth in front of the counter trying to decide on a roll combo.
