History

Established in 1978.

Turnabout began with my love for shopping and passion for playing with clothes and accessories. At the age of 23 I opened my first Turnabout store on South Granville.

From the beginning the fun concept of ‘turning about’ your wardrobe was an instant success. Our fresh approach and enthusiasm drew customers and captured media attention from national and local TV, radio and print.

As the business grew I became more knowledgeable about beautiful clothing and high end labels, and the customer base expanded.

We now have four spacious stores. I’m still fascinated with the diversity, talent and accomplishments of our consigners, and I continue to take great pride in the honest service we provide. It’s important for customers to trust our merchandise and prices, and for consigners to have confidence in our accounting. The business has lasted and thrived due to this trust.

Been by here many time, the store looks so legit that I had no idea it was a consignment store. Just popped my head to check out the men’s and as usual, it’s not as big as the ladies’ of course…
Saw a few pairs of Prada shoes starting $ 350 & up… yikes, had no clue they could be that much, imagine new lol. Fine, I’m sure it’s still a discount but at some point, it may be worth buying new.
Even the men’s coats were locked up w/a security cord, surprisingly in this ritzy area.

My favorite thing about Turnabout is the fact that the store will buy your items upfront if you do not have enough stuff for a consignment contract. I was a little disappointed with the number of items that weren’t accepted (most of them in excellent condition, simply the ‘wrong’ brand), but happy nonetheless to receive some $ for a few things I don’t wear anymore.
The selection here is okay. There are a few finds for my age group (20’s), but I thought that most of the items were for a more mature age group. Prices are hit ans miss — you may get lucky and score a deal (pay attention to the colored tags), while some items are priced surprisingly high for their condition.

I made a special trip to this store based on Unilocal reviews. What a disappointment! It certainly made me wonder who wrote those reviews! Yes, there were some designer labels but many were outdated, in bad condition or just plain ugly. All were definitely overpriced. For example, there was a Ralph Lauren dress that I had tried on in the Bay a while back and they were trying to get more or less the same price as the Bay had been charging for it when it was new! In addition the staff were not helpful, in fact they were not even approachable and just spent the time chatting. I felt I’d interrupted when I asked to try something on. I spent over an hour I the store and almost bought a dress out of desperation just to get something. So glad I didn’t though! I ended up at the Bay again, where I bought a beautiful, current season Ralph Lauren dress, with help and advice from 3 lovely sales assistants and it still cost less (even though full price), than many of the dresses in this store. Don’t waste your time or money here!

Turnabout has a genuinely awesome selection of quality (used) clothing. You want designers? They’ve got ‘em. You want clothing that’s actually considered modern and trendy? Yup, this is the place to go.
Some of their prices can be a bit steep, but overall, a trip to Turnabout is definitely worth it.
TIP: Keep an eye out for sales. This is always the best time to go. Their sales never disappoint.

After my awful experience a few blocks down at a plus size consignment store I was glad that find this place. I love designer things, however, I can’t afford them on a regular basis. I am willing to buy a used LV, Gucci or Fendi purse at a reasonable cost instead of new. I can feel and look rich without being rich and or having to resort to cheap knock offs that are often more $$$. Everything was of quality, stuff that I would actually want to wear. The lady at the til looked as though she wanted to kill herself or would rather be elsewhere. The space is clean, well lit and spacious. It reminds me of Army & Navy but in a positive way.

I’ve been in the area for the last 12 years, and Turnabout was one of the first stores I bought clothing from when I was looking for formal stuff as a student.
Turnabout is a decent quality consignment store. I like the fact that they tend to have massive sales around holiday seasons marked off by tags. Also, they have a relatively large selection of mens clothing. While it’s not the ladies’ section by any stretch of the imagination, there are at least 2 or 3 large turnstiles of male clothing.
What makes this particular Turnabout quite special is that being in West Point Grey, it receives a lot of the inflow of goods from the nearby houses, which are the more established families or those with higher incomes that are cleaning out their closets. You are very likely to find a lot of good items — I found for instance Canali ties for $ 10, and Hugo Boss suits for $ 100 – 200, all in good condition. They try to restore shoes well, and I found a pair of formal laceups for $ 20 which I used for my first job interviews as a shoe salesman and the like (coincidence? Who knows!). While I don’t think it’s the place to finish off your wardrobe in full, it is definitely a place if you need to look presentable but not have to wear the clothes all the time, and have a limited budget.
Nowadays I don’t really buy much since I have to practically live in a suit, though I have referred friends to purchase who are looking to be economical and they have been happy with the results. And who knows, maybe if I want to look like Psy or something next year, this store will help finish off the look…

I am a regular of this store. You can find many kinds of items where you cannot find at other consignment stores such as atheletic shoes, down jackets, men clothes, boots. Their qualities are superior and they all look very new. I also really like their services. Their staff are all very friendly, pleasant, socialize.

I have bought a few great items from this store. The owner is pretty smart if you get a chance to meet her. I couldn’t decide between two jackets, so she offered me one at a discount. I was still unsure about the second one, so she found me another one that I loved and I ended up buying both.
I love this place… don’t tell your friends about it. I like to keep it a secret for selfish reasons.

The reviews and descriptions of Turnabout hold true as of this writing: a somewhat upscale consignment boutique with an emphasis on trend brands, questionable service — no one greeted me or looked at me, and prices that start out on the higher side, but could become a deal if you find the right colour tag.
TIP: watch out for the blue tag (60% off) vs. the «teal» (10% off) tag… they are awfully similar if you don’t know any better. I carried around an Ellen Tracy shell ($ 70) for 10 minutes before I realized «the deal».
Also — they carry fakes here, but mark they are fakes on the tag. I’m not sure I like this. They had a fake Chanel bag of very mediocre quality for $ 75. Considering the questionable conditions in which these items are produced, I file this under: «Things that make you go hmmm?»
Worth a peek if you are strolling this incredible section of West Broadway (Kits?), but not a destination.

I used to shop here years ago, but I moved out of the area. Most of their selection was a little dated for me, but I always got attentive service and occasionally found something nice with the help of the staff. Over the last year or so I have only been in on a few occasions, but I found that the service has really deteriorated. There is so much mediocre stock (it’s a fairly large store for a 2^nd hand place) that a little help from the staff goes a long way… sadly, recently the ladies there seem more interested in talking to each other than assisting customers and I have left empty-handed.

This consignment store is overpriced for their clothing. This store is aimed at people 40 years old and up, or who have no clue about good consignment clothing. Much of the merchandise is tacky. So what if they have high-end labels? Look around Value Village for god sakes, you’ll find something designer for under $ 20 I guarantee.

Nice stuff, prices can be okay if you watch for the markdowns.
They usually only take known high-end labels, don’t accept drop-in visits with potential merchandise, and will only take merchandise if you have minimum value of — it was either $ 1200 or $ 1500, I forget which. Those are the parameters — if they’re a fit for what you’ve got, it should work out

This is by far my favourite consignment store. The selection is large, the prices are fair to moderate, and the quality of merchandise is high.
This is a pretty serious operation with regard to consigning. It’s best to call, make an appointment and also do be warned, their standards are pretty high so, have patience too.
It’s worth it.
I’ve been in a bunch of times and always find things I like. The store sells and consigns both men and woman’s clothing, shoes and accessories.
*Just ignore the «Funny» points at the bottom… it’s a long story.

Pssst… I’m finally revealing my secret fashion weapon. Over half my wardrobe is from this store!
They carry wonderfully unique clothing by boutique names like Girl Candy Shop and Talula Babaton, as well as popular upscale brands like Banana Republic, Holt Renfrew, BCBG, and Kookai. I love that I can always find clothes in my elusive «tall and small» size.
The store is well organized and clean. Clothes are in excellent condition, and some even have their original tags on them. Dressing rooms are spacious with lots of big mirrors for preening and posing. There’s also a good selection of shoes, funky purses, and jewelry. The men’s section is small but has lots of basics like jackets, pants, and sweaters.
One star subtracted for two drawbacks:
–the manager only accepts first-time consignment by appointment, during «bankers’ hours». So if you want to bring your clothes in but work Monday to Friday, you’re out of luck.
— apart from the super friendly and helpful staff, there’s one woman who is consistently unsmiling, curt, and seems to really dislike her job… such a pity in a fun store!
Otherwise, you’ll find terrific service, amazing clothes, and great prices.

The service here definitely merits a mention. The staff are friendly and helpful, and set me up promptly with a fitting room when they saw me carrying around an armful of clothes. They will also happily guide you around and help you find what you need, which might just be necessary — the layout can be a little confusing, with several different seasons’ worth of tops organised by colour, making it hard to locate the spring top I was looking for.
There’s a good selection of pretty dresses and skirts, quality handbags/purses and shoes, as well as the usual jeans and casualwear. On my last visit I spotted labels ranging from Chloe to Kenzie Girl, and from Topshop to Dolce & Gabbana. The ‘look’ seemed to be trendy, urban, and relatively young.
Prices are a little high, but the quality of merchandise seems consistently good, with well-selected and cared for pieces. In addition, there is a discount system for each item, with different colours indicating the percentage off. If you’re a regular shopper, they also operate a point-card system. They sometimes have discount days — I popped in this Saturday and everything was 25% off, which was a great surprise.
I love Turnabout — I’ll definitely be back!

I was just strolling along West Broadway, when I came upon this store. I went in too see what they had to offer for the male clientel. Top of the line brand names Prada, Burberry, Versace and so on. Pricey for the big names, but I managed to find 2 shirts with 20% off that I liked, I even got an extra 10% off «sweet,“one of the buttons on the cuff was about to come off. Was given a $ 5 off next purchase coupon, and joined the points club. I will be back searching again soon!!! Cheers…

I’m often amazed that the clothing here is previously owned. This location of Turnabout (there are three in total) focuses on the trendy vibe of Kits over the more expensive tastes at the South Granville location.
Everything in the store hangs neatly in displays and it’s pretty easy to hunt out a cozy sweater or unique pair of boots.
The prices can raise a few eyebrows, though. Thankfully there is a color-coded system to denote sales of up to 40% off. On many a visit I’ve started chanting (silently) «be a blue, be a blue”– the code for the full 40% discount.
Although I’ve visited this location a dozen times, I’ve never found anything I’ve loved enough to buy. Hence the only 3 stars. Consignment and thrift shopping, for me, is mostly about the find. And if there’s no find on repeated visits, well I’m just looking through someone else’s clothes.
