Specialties
The Vancouver Sun Run’s primary goals are to promote health, fitness and a sense of community. Although not designed as a charity event, The Vancouver Sun Run is proud to have raised more than $ 2.11 million for important causes since 1985. Each year $ 50,000 is donated to The Vancouver Raise-a-Reader campaign and $ 80,000 is given in support of BC’s amateur athletes via the Achilles Track Society and The Vancouver Sun International Jerome Track Classic.
New for the 2014 year, every registrant has the opportunity to create a personal pledge page for one of The Vancouver Sun Run’s charitable partners and to fundraise through participation in The Vancouver Sun Run. We are proud to announce that this year our charitable partners are BC Children’s Hospital, BC SPCA and the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
History
Established in 1985.
When the race began in 1985, just 3,200 participants walked or ran on the streets of False Creek. Each year the race grew, attracting new people to what soon became a Vancouver tradition of fun and fitness. In 2013, the number of registrants was an astounding 48,196. The Vancouver Sun Run is still Canada’s largest 10K road race and is now the 3rd largest timed 10K in the world.
