The Soup Market

It was alright, staff was nice. Soup I had was a bit watery.

Friendly staff and delicious bread. I had the cauliflower and tomato soup when I went and it was excruciatingly salty! It also contained peanuts, which I could not even taste. Possibly the other soups are better?

Located inside the new UBC AMS SUB building on the ground floor facing the atrium, Granville Island’s beloved soup stall appears at UBC. Inline with UBC and the new SUB’s philosophy to present quality food at an affordable price, the soup market is a clear winner. While not called «The Stock Market», the subtle name change is only external, internally, the Soup Market provides all the delicious soups and stocks that the original location produces.
As with the original location, the 3 soups are different everyday, consisting of a vegi, meat, and seafood option. The sizes available are small, medium, and large, and comes with a slice of spiced focaccia reminiscent of the original’s bread and butter mantra of hearty, healthy eats. The store is very well presented, the white décor is vibrant and naturally illuminates itself with the incoming sunlight into the SUB’s atrium. A large counter with a short glass façade separates the customer and staff, which feels less imposing and open, just like the atrium.
From my fuzzy memory on Imagine Day, there was a vegi, chicken, and a salmon fennel chowder, which i chose to have. The chowder looks visually appealing, speckles of mustard seeds, bits of wild sockeye salmon chunks, dill, fennel, tomatos, etc. The chowder seems to be thickened by potatoes but still runny enough to be soupy. Im happy that the Soup Market has retained the same taste and appeal that made the Stock Market what it is today.
Ill be sure to return on those cloudy and rainy days and warm myself to a delicious cup of soup that we all know and trust.
