The Gramercy Grill

This is our 2^nd time visiting this restaurant — the first time here we had a decent experience.
Upon arrival here, we were greeted promptly and seated. The hostess and waiter were very attentive and friendly to us. All went well except when the food came. I ordered the Ribeye steak and the other half ordered the Lamb entrée. My steak was DRENCHED in gravy and so was my date’s lamb plate. On top of that, her lamb was raw in the middle. Instead of complaining, she packed up her plate and got it to go knowing that the kitchen would probably make things worse or even sabotage the remains.
My steak was not the best either — I ordered medium and got well done…
And to top it all off, the bread we got to start off was just cold… if you are charging customers $ 3 for bread, it better be warm and fresh.
I’m not sure if a rookie cook was manning the kitchen but we’ve had a decent experience last time. Now we will never come back again after today The place was empty on a Friday night so i’m sure we are not the only ones with a negative experience. I will give credit to the great customer service though.
We gave 10% tip and left.

This restaurant has a great patio and everyone there is very friendly. Unfortunately, the food we had wasn’t anything special. It would have been okay in a pub, but at those prices it should be better than unobjectionable. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time, but drinks from the bar (just a glass of wine and a bottle of beer) took 10+ minutes to come after we ordered them. Unless you’re going there to sit on the patio, I’d skip it. At that price point, there are much better restaurants in the neighborhood.

Wow! I just need to say one thing: Please order the Gramercy seafood dish and the bread/​corn bread basket. The two are absolutely delicious on their own but earn a notch of superiority when consumed in the presence of one a other.
I hope you like seafood.
…and are not gluten free.

I’ve been here for both brunch and dinner, and had good meals both times. They have a fairly good selection of dishes and drinks, too. Service has always been excellent, and the owners/​waitstaff have gone above and beyond to ensure we’re taken care of.
Despite a hiccup or two, they were very quick to rectify a missed order. The patio seating is great in the summer, too.

One of the worst, most toxic food environments ever! I walked in and was immediately hit with a toxic smell — a mix of bleach and something else. Eventually, this would cause a low-​grade headache. Very noxious! The water and beer glasses tasted and smelled like bleach/​detergent! Awful! They ran out of turkey, even though they were celebrating American Thanksgiving. The entrees we ended up ordering in place of turkey were truly awful and undercooked. The server was horrible and didn’t take our full orders. One member of our group came home with massive cramping, likely due to the bleach in the water, and spent an hour in the washroom. BRUTAL!

I came here hoping for something less sad-​diner-​like… Especially given the prices… I was hoping for more of an «inspired fresh tasty Canadian home cooked meal» type of experience.
In our party of three, one ordered the Catch of the Day, another ordered the Seafood Bowl, and I ordered the Angus Beef Tenderloin. The only one of us that left satisfied was the one that ordered the seafood bowl — he said the seafood was nice and fresh, and the sauce was pleasant and not too buttery/​creamy. He said it wasn’t something he’d make at home, and it was fresh, varied, and tasty — so it was exactly what he wanted.
Angus Beef Tenderloin ($ 34) was massive, but bland and boring. I could have cooked a better one at home. I left with a full stomach, and plenty of steak leftovers for my dog, but feeling disappointed. When I go out to eat, I want something more special/​inspired than what I cook on the regular for dinner at home.
The interior feels like it would please an older demographic… More of a diner feel, or older person sports bar feel, than a fresh tasty Vancouver kind of meal?
Get a good recipe, and cook at home. You’ll save money and calories.

My husband and I thought we’d try Gramercy for the first time last night. Sat down and was told the special was Coho salmon, so I ordered it, my hubby had pork chop. Our meals arrived and mine turned out to be a «too» smokey Arctic char white fish. The blonde waitress acknowledged her mistake and offered to get me another meal, but I would have had to wait another ½ hour for that, and certainly didn’t want to wait any longer nor eat alone! I could taste that awful smokey fish all night after I even left more than ½ on my plate! Very Disappointing! Especially since she didn’t even offer to remove it from the bill which wasn’t cheap. We won’t go back, that’s for sure!

Less than a star, snobby owner, shitty staff… Just go somewhere else. And yes, I can afford to eat and drink here. Boo…

Not sure why my mushroom orecchiette came out as mushroom spaghetti… But too hungry to ask the server. Regardless, it was pretty rich. Could use an extra pinch of salt… The clam linguini was okay, lots of clams… Some obviously frozen. Will I come back again? Maybe.

Had a wonderful meal al fresco tonight, enjoying burrata and cured meats followed by differing pasta dishes for each of the four of us… none disappointing. All preceded by a well-​made Manhattan and martini.
REALLY appreciate your commitment to providing gluten-​free pasta. Such a treat to be on vacation with my husband and adult children and NOT have to sit, watching them enjoy pasta dishes while I search a menu for an alternative I don’t really want. Very gracious of you and so important to those of us with celiac disease. Bravo.
The highlight of our last evening in Vancouver? Conversation with Brie, who is adorable, smart and delightful. A great and professional server, but much more than that. An asset to the Gramercy Grill experience. Thank you!

We had dinner as a group of 8 on a weekday, and I had the daily special for that day which was sablefish with brown rice. The quality of food was almost average, the speed which the food was served was not impressive. The brown rice was undercooked and hardly seasoned, the sablefish was cooked fairly. It was more than an hour for our food to be on the table.
The table we were sitting at was lack in space from the table behind us, which means the space for the server/​anyone to pass through was tiny, and definitely caused inconvenience.
Otherwise, they do provide friendly service. Don’t think we will be coming back here unless necessary.

I wanted to love this restaurant. I went because I live 2 minutes away (walking distance!) and because it looked cozy and welcoming. I was really disappointed because the service was incredibly slow, and they didn’t have the appetizers we ordered, had to modify 2 of the 3 main courses we ordered because of running out of ingredients, and they didn’t have the dessert we wanted (crème brule!). our drinks were very slow in coming, and the cappuccinos we ordered after dinner didn’t arrive, so after 30+minutes, we just got up and went to the door to pay. our waitress didn’t pass by our table and we couldn’t get her attention to cancel the coffee and ask for the bill.
The service was a disaster even though the wait-​staff were VERY nice. The food was good even though the kitchen wasn’t prepared (no ingredients) and the atmosphere was really nice. I hope they fix their problems because I really would love my neighbourhood restaurant to be a good place to visit!

I’ve driven past here many of times on my way to my boyfriend’s, and I’ve always pointed out to him that I wanted to try this place. I’ve had a few friends recommend that I go and try it. So, finally my boyfriend and I went during dine-​out, and I have to say, the reviews from my friends were right. This was a nice restaurant. Definitely a date kind of place. The food was really well-​made and flavoured, and the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. It was overall a good experience and I would definitely come back for their regular menu.

I’ve been meaning to try this place for ages, and I finally tried it out during dineout Vancouver. Their menu contained a nice variety of options and optional add-​ons. The restaurant has a nice, intimate atmosphere, it would be a great spot for a date.
I had the beef carpaccio as my appetizer, the New York striploin as my main, and the pecan pie for dessert. The carpaccio was delicious, one of the best I’ve had; I loved the notes of truffle. My steak was cooked a little more than I like, but it tasted good nonetheless. I did appreciate the fact that they were easygoing regarding substitutions. I was not a fan of the pecan pie, it was on the dry side and it came with very little whipped cream. All in all a pretty good experience, I would go back.

Two friends and I went to the Gramercy Grill as part of Dine Out Vancouver. The food was excellent — I had the beef carpaccio, the ribs and blue cheese macaroni, followed by pecan pie.
Why only three stars? The service from our waitress was terrible. She did not offer to hang up our rain-​soaked jackets, was hard to find throughout the night, and was openly rude to another waitress and the fellow who was expediting food and cleared our plates. The other staff were helpful and friendly, so I’d give the place another chance.

I recently went there a couple of times. As a vegan, there were zero options on the menu but I asked the server to ask the kitchen what they could do for me. The first time, she came back with a «the chef can make a vegetable medley on rice». I thought: «boring» but went along because what option did I really have anyway…
But when the dish arrived, it was a wonderful plate of perfectly sauteed in olive oil veggies like broccolini, green beans, red peppers, eggplant and potato cubes on a bed on brown rice. The flavour was perfect, very garlicky and just salted enough. I was thoroughly impressed. The second time I asked for the same thing but it came more in the shape of a stir fry with a side of salad. It was not quite as good, but still very good. I would like to see something in the menu that would say «vegan plate» so that it is clear that the kitchen knows what they’re doing, and that there can be options out there for everyone…

Came here cause of an entertainment book coupon… Forgot to give it though. No worries that’s an excuse to go again!
Small community restaurant, looks like lots of locals like to come here. The waiter was very friendly and welcoming. They were a little behind but he remained attentive and refilled our water many times. His recommendations were amazing.
Started withe the chicken liver happy. Mmmmm try it! Don’t be a whimp. Its worth it.
I had the full baby back ribs on a bed of blue cheese Mac. Yea you heard me A Bed of BLEU CHEESE MAC. Not for the light eater or the weak heart. This was a classic creamy dish with a pretty wicked kick. I’m not a huge fan of blue cheese but there was just enough to not overwhelm your taste buds. I told them to put it back on their regular menu. Ha.
We also had the mussels and frites. Red Thai curry was spicy and the mussels fresh. The mussels could be bigger though and the fries were not very good. Way over done unfortunately.
The seafood bowl hit the mark. Lots of variety, perfectly cooked good quality fish and great sauce. If my dad wasn’t full he would have ordered bread to soak up the rest of the sauce.
Great place to bring family or friends. It’s intimate but casual and in a quiet area if you are looking for a restaurant to take your time.
PS you can still get the blue cheese Mac as a side.

This place is utterly unspectacular. Super disappointed because I desperately wanted to love it. My coffee cup came with lipstick on it, my food had a hair in it, and the combination of flavours on the dish that I ordered was weird at best.
Judging by this visit I don’t think I’ll ever return.
A positive — they have great decaf coffee.

I stumbled upon this place completely by accident after picking up some pizza from across the street for my best friend and I.
I came in here for the crème brule as I’m a crème brule wh0re, however, when I found out that they were participating in the mac and cheese fest… I was all in.
The mac and cheese with marbled cheddar & star anise macaroni with bread crumbs topped with shredded duck confit, water chestnut & hoisin sauce, and green onions. Holy shit this was the best mac and cheese ever.
The anise with the cheddar added a mild sweetness that complimented really really well.
It is very rich. I only finished ½ and took the rest to go with no intention of sharing.
The dish came out in 10 minutes.
The service is very overly attentive (in a good way), nicest service that I’ve had in a long time. I had at least 4 different servers assisting and minorly fussing over me which is extremely rare in the city in general. I left more tip than I normally do at establishments ’cause of this.
Price overall was decent.

BC Hydro’s Candlelight Conversation evening meant no lights and many candles. Besides accidentally singeing the menu, this lent a romantic touch to the evening. New menu rolled out today. Server was energetic, thoughtful, and preemptively explained that new menu = slower kitchen.
Appetizer beef carpaccio was velvety and rich. Flavours were nuanced and texture was divine. The seafood cioppino style stew had a goodly amount of crustaceous protein and flavours were good, but served somewhat lukewarm.
There are definitely winner dishes on the menu that we’ll return to try. New dishes need some tweaking (understandable with a new menu). Will return to see what the place looks like with lighting!
