The Cannibal Cafe

I had higher expectations for this place. We came after work during the week and it wasn’t super busy. The service was okay, nothing bad or great.
I got the turkey burger and it sounded super appetizing with goat cheese, bacon, onions and a cranberry sauce (thanksgiving right. yeah no) The cranberry sauce they put on just dominates the burger and is SUPER tart… like that is all you taste. Does not complement it at all. Also my bun was soggy and I just kind of picked around at it.
I ordered a side of onion rings and legit got 5 rings in a basket… but it’s okay since they weren’t really onion rings but balls of dough with no onion to taste… I’d suggest switching to a panko crust or something because these were just terrible.
Perhaps I picked the wrong thing to eat and the other burgers are better but I wasn’t amazed so probably won’t be back.

Went there a couple of times.
Only two stars because the service is not even decent.
Only girls working there, young and pretty but not really friendly or efficient.
We asked for a specific table, the place was empty but one waitress still refused to give us that table because they were «trying to give tables to different waitress»
Obviously, a few minutes after new people came in the restaurant and were given the table we wanted.
We then ordered, I asked a burger without tomatoe, I had a burger with tomatoe.
Besides that, food is good, and you can build your own burger which is interesting. However I was so disappointed by the rest, I won’t go there again.

Been here 3 times. We were misled and treated with indifference each time.
First, we came for a pitcher of beer as advertised on their website, but they don’t actually serve them (they have pitchers — and beer — but apparently we must pay full price for individual pints).
Next time, after some preparation, my friend asked for the Beast burger challenge (6x 6oz patties) and was denied because «it was Friday», but there’s no indication of that limitation anywhere. None the less, the place was still mostly empty so it wouldn’t have been a burden on the kitchen. They were happy to reap the benefits though — 10 of us came for lunch and to witness the challenge, and stayed because relocating was no longer an option.
Finally, today we went again for the challenge (Thursday), before it was busy, and was told this time only after 2pm. My friend had even called ahead. We left.
I guess if a burger joint can’t handle cooking 6 patties, they can’t handle 6 people ordering burgers either.
What irks me most, beyond the false advertising, is the poor service experience. Indifferently telling customers No is a good way to drive them away. If I’m going to spend too much, it might as well be somewhere I feel valued.

This is an awesome burger/​bar joint. I don’t drink, so I’ll leave the beer experts to judge that side of things, but dang if I’m not coming back for the food. Their burgers are really, really good. All customizable which is great and stacked. They certainly don’t skimp on the toppings, that’s for sure. I mean, I think I got just under half an inch of bacon on mine without even doubling it! Ingredients are top quality too. They actually use real cheese, and lots of it so you can actually taste it, unlike many other burger joints. And their fries, man, their fries are amazing. I honestly wish i’d eaten them first because I couldn’t stop they were so addictive. I’m seriously tempted to just order them alone next time. Ambiance, service and location are also great. Literally right next to the waterfront Canada Line stop and we had a super helpful server (I forget her name, short, short haired, super bubbly, but you know who you are) I would honestly recommend this place to anyone. Absolutely fantastic.

Sides are extra. Need I say much more? Like, I’m already paying $ 13 for a burger and you can’t just throw in some fries? Seriously? And it’s not like the fries are anything special.
The burgers are good though. They’re stacked. Hard to wrap your mouth around. Juicy. And the ambiance is chill. Good tunes. Open late.
But still: it’s a punk rock burger joint. Punks should go to McDs. Unless they are rich punks (I mean, I guess this IS Vancouver…).

Service was great… But unless you ate earlier don’t order the Jr burger. I have never seen a thiner burger. The tomato was thicker. It’s all I tried maybe the other ones are good? Fries where nice.

Size of meals is very fair, and you can make your own burger, which is interesting.
I had an avocado/​goat cheese/​fried onions burger, and it was very good !
They also do smoothies with alcohol and fruits, very tasty.

I was taken here for a meal when I visited Vancouver by my one friend and I’ll tell you what: this place is delicious.
As an American coming into Canada and not having spent a ton of time here, minus the cold, I rather enjoy it. The restaurant/​bar scene is definitely better as everything is meticulous and nicely decorated. There are vegetarian options seemingly almost everywhere and, from what I’m told, that’s pretty standard. Cool, I dig it.
I ordered a burger and instead of fries, chose the side salad option with goat cheese. Everything was hot, tasty. I also had a beer, which I cannot recall what it was but it’s a standard, green bottle beer and that was a great choice as well.
Now Vancouver, if your weather was as hot as your food, then you may have a chance of pulling me up there. If you haven’t been, Canadian or otherwise, you better get here.

My husband and I tried Cannibal Café on a whim because it was new, and we used to eat there when it was a sushi place.
We were seated at a booth near the window, next to a large noisy party. We moved one booth back so we wouldn’t have to shout over the group discussion of the larger party. I’m not sure if this confused our server, but it took longer than it should have to get to talk to anyone about ordering anything. Just as we were on the verge of leaving, our server came — she was very nice.
I ordered the Silence of the Lamb burger (with a name like that, how could I not?) and a side of poutine; my husband ordered The Farmhouse and yam fries.
The poutine was excellent — no complaints there at all. The Silence of Lamb burger… not so much. The meat was very dry — even though the centre of the meat was still pink, which is how I like burgers, it was still chewy and dry. The «dill’d yogurt» was a little overpowering on the burger, but interesting. If there was in fact olive tapenade on my burger as the menu claims, I tasted no hint of it at all.
My husband liked the yam fries and said the burger was «OK, but too much bun and not enough meat.» He also didn’t like the iceberg lettuce as he feels it’s mostly crunchy water and generally used by fast food chains and not restaurants.
The beer selection is limited — but from what the menu says, that is temporary. I ordered a 1516, which was on special, so that was good.
The music was great, lots of 80’s and classic rock, which we both enjoyed a lot.
The décor is very bland and doesn’t seem to have a theme to it. I am hoping this is because they are new, otherwise it’s a lot of blonde coloured wood paired with a cracked and dirty-​looking floor from where the old restaurant’s setas were removed.
Our bill was dropped off with reasonable promptness, but then we had to wait ages to get to pay it. Just as we got up to pay at the counter, the server promised us the machine — and then brought a table near us their bill instead and rang it through first, and took her time chatting them up a bit before getting to us.
I hope that this is all «new location» kinks that will get worked out in time — this place has a lot of potential to be very cool. If not, if our experience tonight is the norm, we won’t be back.
ETA: I hadn’t realised this when I ate there, but regular fries are not included with the price of the burger. All sides — any side at all — is extra. Has the price of potatoes gone through the roof or something?

My mom and I came on a rainy Saturday afternoon after some serious shopping and liked this place very much.
This location is PERFECT — it’s RIGHT next door to the Waterfront Canada Line exit, so the rain damage was minimal.
We ordered the bacon burger, full-​size poutine, a side of yam fries and a coke.
The servers could not be lovelier — just very COOL and casual and friendly. Great recommendations.
Ok the food — great bacon burger. So. Much. Bacon. Very juicy like my mom and I like it. Everything was served hot. Poutine was good — could use a few more cheese curds here and there, but otherwise, good selection. Yam fries — awesome! I don’t really prefer yam fries (they were out of onion rings this day), but these were definitely very good. I ate them all! Comes with a nice chipotle? mayo dip.
Seats were comfortable, place was clean, music was not too loud. Lots of laughter coming from the staff/​kitchen area. Loved that.
The only thing I would change is the menu. Very very very hard to read. It’s like a piece of art!
Definitely going to come back with the husband and maybe my dad!

First things first… I stopped in here fairly late. I’m slightly confused on their hours. They have signs that state they close at 9pm on their doors but they let me in at 9:30 to eat. Their site says they close at «slow» and I have no clue what that means so I’m guessing that fluctuates? Unilocal says they close at 10pm?
I’m hoping they stay open later than 10 in the future. I know that it’s not exactly a super busy part of downtown but I live nearby as do a few others and having a place like this to visit and compete against the 50x boring English style pubs nearby would be a great refresher. I’m sick of bad burgers and Shepard’s Pie.
The place still had about 6 – 8 tables filled when I got in. I was able to sit at the bar. I ordered the Classic Cheeseburger to get a good feel of the taste here. Their apps sound good and I’ll probably be back to try those out.
I’m from Texas and now live in Vancouver so I’m damn picky on burgers. Half the time I prefer a fast food burger in Canada over a restaurant one as no one can do it right. This place though was excellent. The burger wasn’t too huge and sloppy and it tasted amazing. I got Yam fries and found those excellent as well. I know others mentioned their fries were a bit soggy but for Yam fries at least I expect them like that. I agree that standard fries should be crispy. They have a nice tv setup and bar with a few craft beers on tap and cocktail menu. They also had a milkshake machine which is awesome and plenty of burger options.
This place will probably be my new go to stop for a burger after work. It is literally right next to the entrance stairs into Canada Line Waterfront on the Granville entrance.
I should also note that the staff here is awesome. Everyone is extremely nice and even their chefs. Great crew.
Can’t wait to stop by again and try out that Korean burger and other options. The only wish I have is for them to stay open later and also be open on Sunday!

I came here the other night with a buddy because we were looking for some «unhealthy» food. Surprisingly, the place wasn’t packed. I assumed everyone is looking for a decent burger joint.
I was gunning for their classic cheeseburger but at the last minute opted for the Big Blue. Blue cheese stuffed patty, a crispy onion ring, more blue cheese, horseradish chive mayo, lettuce, tomato, onion and a long slice of pickle on the side.
Blue cheese isn’t for everyone. The burger was good but I was slightly disappointed in the non uniform distribution of blue cheese. There was no cheese to be made for many bites of the burger but others there was way too much. All in all, still good enough to return for. The addition of the onion ring did make the burger massively tall. It was slightly difficult to fit that thing in my mouth to take a bite.
Fries could use some work, thinner, crispier and definitely more salt or seasoning is needed.

I came here with a coworker for lunch on a Friday. I had looked at the menu online and I’m a lover of a classic American cheeseburger so I was pretty jazzed about this place. I ordered their classic cheeseburger, as I often do at a burger place, to see how they stack up before moving on to their specialty burgers. I have to say this burger is pretty good — I’ve lived in the US for a large portion of my life and they take it very seriously down there. In fact I find it hard to find a good burger in Vancouver.
Anyway, the meat was good and it had the standard toppings — tomato, red onion, and a crisp piece of iceberg lettuce. It also had American cheese, which I actually prefer on a classic cheeseburger. The only problem was that the patty was tiny, which wouldn’t be such a problem, as I’m not a big eater, but the bun was massive. This, and foot high burgers are my two main burger peeves!
Fries were not very good — mushy. I want FRIES if I’m going to splurge, which I don’t do that often. I like thin, crispy on the outside, pillowy inside, salty, hot FRIES. These were just disappointing. Too thick, and mushy.
Service was good, with at least three different people asking me how my meal was, without being annoying. The interior was bigger than it looks from the outside!
