The American Cheesesteak

Overall I feel The American Cheesesteak Company is offering a very good deal during Dine Out Vancouver 2016. Since you get a voucher for $ 5 off, the net cost is only $ 15. Even at $ 20, what you get is a sizable and tasty meal, complete with drink.
Even without Dine Out Vancouver, their sandwiches/​subs are already about twice the size of a gourmet burger at a comparable price.
The DOV menu is NOT for takeout, but if you’re worried about finishing your sandwich, you may want to work on your sidedish, and then wrap up your sandwich to go. You can get a steak knife from the condiments counter to cut a portion of your sandwich for eating there.
Contrary to the menu posted on the Dine Out Vancouver website, you DO NOT GET in-​house made frozen custard. Instead, you get a voucher for it. Maybe they included it earlier on during DOV, but not anymore.
ACC Fries
–Good initially. Decent fries and generously topped with parmesan and a bit of green herb (parsley?).
–Not super garlicky, unfortunately.
–Toward the bottom, it gets really greasy as presumably the butter dripped to the bottom. You may want to skip the last layer of fries as its buttery/​greasy and in any case probably cold.
–Eat this fast while its hot.
Side Salad
–Salad is salad. It’s a pretty big one, though.
Cajun Fire Po’Boy (fried shrimp)
–Pass on this.
–ACC Hot sauce pretty hot, and smothered all other flavours.
-«Shrimp» are decently sized! Not super-​small mini shrimps the size of cashew nuts, but larger ones the size of prunes. Crunchy but looked oily.
OH-​Saka
–Tasted like teriyaki sauce. A bit overdone but otherwise meaty. Definitely meatier than the Cajun Fire.
–An OK choice, but would probably have been better if you could taste more of what was in it.
Italian Stallion
–I felt this had too much marinara sauce, so you may want to consider scraping some of that off, revealing the flavours of the other stuff in it.
–Eat it while hot or the provolone will harden and cake things together.
–When they say the prime rib is tender, they are not kidding. Also, there’s a very generous amount of meat. Seemed like more than in the OH-​Saka.
–Overall very tasty once I took off the marinara. Of what we tried, this is a safe choice.
Boylan’s Orange Juice
–Read the ingredients. Then if you still want orange juice, I recommend going with Minute Maid instead.

To celebrate DineOut Vancouver 2016, this is the first restaurant I decided to go to. I have been here a few times in my lifetime, but this will be the first time I will be reviewing their DineOut Vancouver 2016 menu.
I have ordered a Oh-​Saka Cheesesteak Sandwich with Fries and a Diet Coke with some frozen custard. The deal is worth $ 20 + tax = $ 21. I calculated the whole meal and it does save money, just about $ 2 since these specialty sandwiches would probably cost around $ 12-​$ 13.
The Oh-​Saka Cheesesteak sandwich does have what it says: American Cheese, Teriyaki Sauce, Mayo and bonito flakes. (Wasn’t sure if I tasted any onions or lettuce in there) o. o
The teriyaki sauce had a faint sweet taste which was somewhat overpowered by the creamy mayo. The prime rib was definitely melt in your mouth and overall the sandwich was tasty. The bonito flakes were there just to make it more ethnic, but it somewhat added some flavour to the sandwich. The fries were a bit greasy and not crispy as they used to be.
Overall, it was a great experience coming to the American Cheesesteak Co. However, I would recommend coming here for the sandwiches since they will alter around with the sandwich combinations and what not.
Definitely a place I would go to.
Minus half a star for the «missing onions and lettuce» ._.

Highly recommended by our foodie friend, and they do not disappoint.
We came in early for lunch and this place is set up like a food fair kiosk, order and pay first and they will bring you your meal.
We ordered the Classic and the Porky. Both were tasty and excellent.
We also have some tastings of the custard — ice cream. Very rich and creamy, but we were too full to try it.
The décor is set up like a 50s diner.
They also have Parallel 49 beers on tap.

Rainy day, needed something to do, why not try a new restaurant. This place was recommended by a friend and so I wanted to go see what the hype was all about.
I got to tryout the Philly Cheesesteak with ACC fries (Garlic butter and Parmesan fries) and a drink. The sandwich was simply amazing! Didn’t taste greasy, it was hot, it was flavourful and the cheese was just right. The size was the perfect size to leave me satisfied so I’m content with that. The fries however… although garlic parmesan sounds like a good combination it doesn’t taste any better than plain old fries with salt and pepper. It was hard to eat and for sure its not healthy for you. The butter is overwhelming and parmesan cheese does not go well with potatoes. I won’t make that mistake again.
The price is on the high end, although you pay for cleanliness, service and tables. And if one desires a specialty meal, the price is even more. This will definitely back fire for the company as there are so many restaurants that sells cheap meals along Davie St. Which is too bad since they do serve good food.
Would I recommend this restaurant? Yes of course, despite the prices. However, the ACC fries are not worth it. Will be back to try the specialty sandwich.

Really good. Every time I come here I try to order a different sandwich. The Cowboy and the New Yorker are my two favourites :) definitely worth a try.

Super yummy cheese steaks and best chocolate shake I have had in years. Very friendly staff.

I needed something sweet so I dropped in and ordered the vanilla custard. I’ll keep this short and sweet. It was okay, very rich and creamy just how I like it, but lacked some flavor if you ask me. The quality of the custard was good though and I’m lactose intolerant, but this place gave me no problems. Mint Chocolate was meh. Too much chocolate and not enough mint. Lacking balance and not enough natural flavors. I will mention the customer service here was exceptional, the employee I encountered was a beautiful Brazilian girl. Seriously, that girl was beautiful! She was super friendly, personable and we had a good five minute conversation about California. I liked her a lot! They have a good amount of stuff on their menu, but it all seems pretty unhealthy to me. A bit pricey too! Overall, okay place, but I wouldn’t come back.

This will not be a healthy meal. But you probably already knew that coming in. So delicious, so meaty, so many flavours, and the beer! Oh, let’s not forget about the beer.
We shared the KOAGIE (aka «Korean Hoagie») aka get in my mouth right now. It consisted of bulgogi prime rib, American cheese, kimchi, sautéed onions, peppers, and spicy miso mayo. The kimchi is damn good. We also shared the traditional poutine (real curds and plenty of it) and deep fried pickles along with a pint of Jerkface 9000 each. Things get messy fast, so load up on those napkins and maybe a fork and knife to tackle on that sandwich to keep your hands relatively clean for grabbing that sweet delicious nectar of a beer.

I got the Koagie. This was one of the most delicious cheese steaks I’ve ever eaten. I thought I was in cheese steak heaven.

Jerks. All my boyfriend and I wanted was cheese fries. Fries with cheese on top. My request was met with a blank stare from the cashier, then she asks, «ACC fries?».
«Just fries with cheese on top».
Then the dime piece running the grill chimes in abruptly, «ACC fries? Garlic fries with butter?».
I reply, «No, just cheese fries. Fries with cheese on top».
The gal behind the register asks me with audible irritation, «What kind of cheese?».
«What kind of cheese do you have?», a seemingly reasonable inquiry on my behalf.
Then the winner behind the grill interjects with condescension, «We only have sliced, processed cheese and cheese whizz– so I don’t know what you’re asking for».
I’m asking for cheese fries!
Rude and unhelpful. We left without ordering anything.

Good Classic Philly Cheesesteak.
A little pricey but it was tasty.
Ordered my classic to go. It was hot (temperature) cheesy goodness, onions and mushrooms were great as well.
The place looked cool, I had some time to look around while waiting for my sandwich. They also sold ice cream and milkshakes and had lots of seating for its patrons.

Team Tastic came here and I got a great taste of the following:
Big Shot ($ 13, sautéed wild mushrooms, provolone, truffle aioli, crispy onions)
The Cowboy ($ 12, aged cheddar, homemade spicy bbq sauce, bacon mayo + crispy onions)
Traditional Poutine ($ 7, fries, house-​made mushroom gravy + cheese curds)
Crispy onions were a-​plenty in both the Big Shot and The Cowboy. The Big Shot comes with sautéed mushrooms and truffle aioli which justifies its higher price. The steak here was tender and there was a satisfying crunch of onion in every bite. The cheese is gooey and this was indeed an oily cheesesteak with the truffle aioli. It was a little much but would be good for when someone is having cravings for something real greasy.
The Cowboy was my preferred cheesesteak out of the two. The aged cheddar is gooey but viscous making it fun to eat. The spicy bbq sauce is actually spicy, and I loved the bacon bits inside adding chewiness to the tender steak. I also found great joy biting into the crispy onions.
As far as price, I think these were fair prices and there isn’t much cheesesteak competition in the city so pricing is anyone’s game. Both of these cheesesteaks were filling and I don’t know why we ordered a poutine as well because I was full enough from one cheesesteak.
The Traditional Poutine is the Canadian twist to this cheesesteak diner. The gravy is hot and the cheese curds squeak ever so slightly. The downside here is the gravy was very salty and I would have enjoyed this poutine more had it either had more fries or a lower concentration of salt in the gravy. Much to my dismay, I feared hypertension and could not finish the poutine.

I am kind of a cheese steak junkie and this place literally has the best cheese steak I have ever had times 2!
The first time I was graced with this deliciousness I felt like I had not eaten in two days (it was more like five hours but who’s counting) and I was completely blown away. I, in a small way, attributed that to being on the verge of spontaneous combustion from hunger (I don’t think that is a thing but I can’t help my feelings).
I decided to give them a second chance/​could not wait to get back. On my way back to the States I stopped in for lunch and somehow it was better the second time around!
Please do yourself a favor and do not forgo sampling «local cuisine» I know when you think cheese steak Vancouver BC is probably not one of the first 50 places you would guess has the best, but you would be incorrect! Absolutely worth the trip over to ACC!!!

Came here for lunch today, after a long absence. They used to have specials from Monday through Wednesday which included a cheesesteak (different one each day), fries, and a can of pop for $ 10. This was an amazing deal considering a cheesesteak alone is $ 10+. Please bring it back!
Anyways I had The Classic today, which consists of shaved prime rib with sautéed mushrooms and cheese. It was delicious and had plenty of meat and cheese. I usually eat it with a knife and fork otherwise it gets über messy.
I also had a few bites of their Prime Rib poutine and that too was amaze-​balls. You def get a lot more poutine than I last remembered. It comes in a plate/​bowl now rather than a low hot plate looking thing. I have to admit their poutine are easily top 5 in Vancouver in my opinion.
Wished the prices would come down a bit. And I think they need to do something with their ventilation because I felt kind of icky afterwards. But still 4 stars!

I don’t remember how long I’ve been wanting to try this place, but I’m finally here now. I ordered the big shot ($ 13) and added $ 2 to get a 16oz (?) gypsy tears beer. Anyways, it was «meatyliciously good!!» Love the Edam cheese and shaved prime rib. It’s very hearty! And the server was really friendly.
I’ve never been to Philadelphia myself, so I can’t really say how it compares to the original. However, I’ve tried a few places in the states, and this place is definitely better. Although it’s also pricier. The beer evens out the price a bit though :9
This is a great place for a hearty/​indulgent lunch.

On a fabulous Monday like today, with the sun out, is the perfect time to get a milkshake, right ;)
So seeing I had tried their custard before, I went for their frozen custard milkshake but far from frozen, trust me lol — very smooth, silky. Definite winner.
Plus for those who have tons of fillings like me, this is quite easy on the teeth, not too cold lol.
Whipped cream to boot. :)

More like a 3.25! Cheesesteak Sammy was pretty good. I had the American with Provolone, onions & mushrooms. Pretty good all things considered. Found the bun was a little stale. My buddies order was messed up a little. He ordered no onions & they included them. He also ordered mushroom & the didn’t include. They made the correction so all’s good.

Why are these cheesesteaks so good? Everything here is a win, from the cheesesteaks (New York FTW) to the fries to the beers on draught.
Unless you’re starving, these are BIG cheesesteaks, and you should split them or prepare to have a food baby all afternoon. The large fries can easily be shared with three people.
It’s a bit pricey for lunch if you’re flying solo, but if you share fries or a sandwich then it’s totally reasonable.

OMG. Probably the best cheesesteak sandwich on the west coast.
Meat is super tender. I think it’s made of Unicorn meat cuz it’s so devine! jk
Sandwiches are not dowzzed in oil and cheese. The meat is the STAR of the show here.
The only complaint I have is that its about 14 bucks a sandwich. It’s a quality sandwich and the rent in Downtown Van is expensive, so I get it.
I recommend the sandwich with lil bits of fried onions. That thing will change your lyyyyfe.
I come from Southern California and I’m used to having «Philly’s Best» and other random cheesesteak places. But this spot is 10x better than Philly’s Best.

Phenomenally great food with awesome staff. Buddy and I stopped by to get some late night fare and they were super nice to let us dine in even as they were closing.
Food was stupid good. Get the monster poutine fries with your Philly cheesesteak. No regrets choosing this place. We had prime rib at the Keg and this was sooooo much more satisfying and at a great price to boot.
