Wonderful atmosphere. I felt limited on the menu items but my colleagues loved everything. I really enjoy my steak frites and shrimp cocktail. It was just the right amount of food to fill you up without being too full.

My fave french resto in Van! Great ambiance, amazing bartenders/mixologists, and prices are unpretentious. Food is consistently excellent.

We enjoyed a lovely late morning brunch here. Food was so tasty! Café au lait and freshly squeezed orange juice were the perfect compliment to a solid breakfast. We ordered a shaved brisket benny and a steedhead trout. The trout was buttery. However, I found the meal to be a touch on the salty side. I had a bite of the benny and it was very good. Service was great. No complaints there. Overall, a good meal.

Great place for brunch. Really like their chicken and waffles and much room brioche. Rated 3⁄5 as some really great brunch places in Vancouver at better prices. But definitely a place to try once!

Decent restaurant. Great service, outstanding food, and fantastic wine. Though it is an high end restaurant, the atmosphere is really down to earth! Love it! Definitely worth a second visit!

We went here for brunch on my wedding day. The menu is limited but the general atmosphere is exactly what I wanted for my bridesmen and I. Since we were getting read in the Loden, it made perfect sense to head down to Tableau. I had the eggs benny and a mimosa, though because of the fact that I was getting married that day and was a bit anxious, I didn’t eat much — but the guys say their meals were great. The service was slow despite us telling them we had a pretty tight timeline, but in the end after asking about our food a couple times it came out and we made it out of there in time. I’d definitely go back for a brunch when I’m not in a rush and after checking the menu before hand — since it’s limited it’s good to know there’s something on there you’ll like before heading over.

Moule frites=Delicieux! Very yummy… It comes out perfectly cooked and hot. I like the setting with the décor. The table are lil bit close to each other tough. But still one of my fav place for French cuisine to go. Also as a dessert the chocolate mousse is unbeatable. And latte and cappuccino are sooooo good… The coffee beans are high quality I can tell. Chapeau Tableau! Hats off Tableau! I will always love you.

Some people don’t like restaurants that are attached to a hotel, but this one is a gem. The food is very good. At lunch, you can’t go wrong with any of their feature items or menu choices. I’m particular to the steak frites with French aioli. Always perfect. Service is very professional and courteous. Plus the Americano coffee is very smooth. They also have a private room for private parties.

Tried these guys for brunch last week and I had the egg white frittata with ratatouille and goat cheese. I’m so sad to say that it really wasn’t my favourite, it was kind of wet and not a solid piece. The flavour was just okay, but not amazing like the other dishes I tried at my table. Someone else got the shaved beef brisket benny which was AMAZING. The beef and that sauce was perfection, I’m ordering this next time. Someone else had the steelhead trout and that was also very tasty with nicely cooked fish. I ordered a side of sausage and while the portion was generous with 2 big sausages, the flavour was just so so to me.

Standard dinner restaurant for a work meeting. Good basic food. I had the tuna Niçoise salad, duck breast and crème brûlée. They offered mushroom toast. Hehehe, yes thick slice of toast covered in sautéed mushrooms and cream brown sauce. Comfort food. Beautiful meeting room however. 2 picture frames were actual large screen TV/monitors to project computer presentations. Excellent meeting venue.

Tableau Bar Bistro’s fine French cuisine extends to their brunch service from Executive Chef Marc-André Choquette inside the boutique Loden Hotel. Sipping on the 1181 cocktail(with gin, elderflower, lemonade, and sparkling wine) upped the classical feel of our surroundings and general French inspiration in the air. Full of citrus and gin flavours, it’s a refreshingly tart libation. Their bacon Caesar(with housemade bacon infused vodka and Clamato juice) did not disappoint with an unmistakable yet mild bacon flavour throughout. I’m far from a Caesar or Bloody Mary fan, but this was more than easy drinking with a pleasingly subtle richness to it. I, of course, had to try the buttermilk fried chicken and waffles(with maple syrup and chicken gravy) and despite being rather basic looking, I found it very appetizing. The flat, thin, and perfectly circular waffle made it easy to wrap the boneless, breaded white chicken pieces coated in syrup and gravy. While still substantial, this was a lighter take on the ubiquitous Southern dish. The steelhead trout(with scrambled eggs, spinach, and béarnaise sauce) came recommended despite seeming initially unremarkable. I did indeed find it a rather satisfying fish dish full of creamy flavours suitable for our mid-morning meal. I also quite enjoyed my café au lait(with steamed milk) for its crisp yet frothy texture. It was a nice treat over brunch. For dessert, the chocolate mouse(served in a sundae glass) was a darkly sweet treat with hints of hazelnut and the lemon tart was bursting with flavour in its general robust, fruity tanginess. Overall, Tableau’s detailed yet comforting selection of brunch items are fairly complementary and more enjoyable on the whole(sharing is recommended) rather than over each individual dish. I suggest ordering a side to fill out your meal(we ordered bacon and frites). From the cocktails, éntrees, and sides, everything mostly fits together well in Tableau’s unassuming yet satisfying French style brunch menu. It makes for a fancy feeling meal.

I went here for dinner and ordered the Steak Frites, it was underwhelming. The steak was cooked medium rare, as requested but there was not enough sauce for me. It was also really hard to cut the steak with the knife, I’m not sure if it’s my cutting skills at fault here but all I know is I feel like I’m battling a piece of meat throughout dinner. My first impression of the fries was good, it was so crunchy then I took another one and I got the burnt ones. Closer inspection showed that the majority are closer to burnt than fried. Not to mention that they put too much salt into the fries. The vegetable side was ok but even then I would have loved more cheese sprinkles on my veggies. For $ 26, the meal was disappointing.

Smallish room, dimly lit, overall nice ambiance dominated by a lovely bar. Points for that. Our table got to try a lot of things. I personally got two of the features of the day, so you will likely not experience them yourself, BUT there are lessons there that you should take note for your own visit to Tableau. Free bread and butter after you have ordered. Not many restaurants do that anymore. Sunday speciality — Beef Bourguignon($ 24) — Looks absolutely nothing like beef bourguignon, if you have had it before elsewhere or looked it up on wikipedia. — Looked like a few cubes of beef thrown into a stir-fry of root vegetables and a bit of pasta. — Where’s the tasty brown stew? — Portion looked like 3 – 4 cups in total. Baked Cheese & Pasta Casserole($ 22) blue cheese, gruyère & parmesan cheese — Yup, it’s basically mac ‘n cheese. — Strong but thankfully not overpowering blue cheese aroma. — For the price, go for something more interesting. If you’re vegetarian then beggars can’t be choosers, I guess. Maybe try going on $ 18 Meatless Monday instead. — Portion looked like 2 cups, possibly 3 cups max. Feature flatbread($ 12) — Today it was something about a roux base, ratatouille, and small cubes of chicken. — Where’s my ratatouille? Someone forgot the veggies or what? — Cubes of chicken sprinkled over it. — Very thin and crispy crust which definitely helps in picking it up. — Since neapolitan pizza places are charging $ 12-$ 18+ for 11″ pizza, I guess you can’t really complain when they call it flatbread instead of pizza. Feature Pasta #1 Tagliatelle alfredo«without the guilt» — Pureed cauliflower was supposed to substitute the fattening creaminess in the classic dish. Instead, there were a few sprigs of cauliflower but basically no sauce. — Maybe it didn’t have to be slithering in sauce, but I think there should have at least been some clear sign, flavour, and texture of the noodles having been generously coated in the faux alfredo sauce. — Not sure how much this was, but probably in the $ 20’s as everything else is. And price for what came to the table was definitely not worth it not just in lack of tastiness but also(to a lesser degree) portion. Feature Pasta #2($ 24) Tagliatelle alle vongole in rosso — I was initially very confused by what I got — I was thinking, «where’s my sauce?». But apparently that is the Italian-American style, and to not have it swimming in sauce is acceptable. — Not sitting in sauce is okay, but could the noodles at least taste clearly like they had some flavour other than noodle? — About 4 – 5 cups in total, excluding the shells of the small clams. — Portion is small for pasta but taste was the main reason for disappointment. For $ 24, I needed it to be somehow really tasty. For $ 24, totally not worth it. Steak Frites($ 26) 8oz grilled sirloin, watercress, red wine sauce — Probably the best and most reasonable value on the entire menu. You also get a generous amount of french fries. — Fries looked too dark, so probably over-fried slightly. Also very salty. — Fries were mostly very short, maybe 2 – 4 cm. It looked intentional based on how the ends of the fries appeared to be cut, BUT visually it looked like mostly they put it together with short scraps from cutting fries from potatoes. Overall, feeling extremely disappointed by my meal. Tastiness just wasn’t there to justify price. Portion was disappointing for price, but that is an afterthought. Usually when prices start climbing over $ 15-$ 18 for a main, you get taste or you get portion. Here you got prices in the $ 20’s but you got neither good taste nor good portions. We lost faith and went elsewhere for dessert. And based on how many of us were surprised by what we got compared to what we were thinking we’d get(e.g., beef bourguignon), I recommend that you try to peek at what other people are eating, and don’t all get the same thing in case you need to mix and match with your dining party. They were remarkably clear and up-front about the 18% automatic gratuity for parties of 8+. In some restaurants they don’t bother to tell you and you accidentally double-tip when you’re using the machine. Here, they mentioned it during the pre-reservation call, before dinner, and when the bills are handed out.

For the amount of money spent here, I didn’t leave 100% satisfied. Tableau could have done better. We had a group of 10 people for a birthday dinner on a Saturday night so it was a busy night. Our waitress was friendly in the beginning, but as the night wore on, she seem to slowly become annoyed with us. Not sure if we ordered too many drinks and food which caused her to go back and forth a lot or she simply got too flustered with the hectic dinner service. Either way, I wasn’t too happy with her attitude, but the manager came by to check on us, which helped. The food ranged from excellent to below average. A few of us ordered steak and it wasn’t consistent. Someone received a perfect medium rare cook on theirs and another received an overcooked bland piece of meat. The manager did however, asked to switch it for us when he asked us how we found the meal.(The waitress didn’t bother to ask about our dinner) The absolute best thing on the menu and must-get was the Mushroom Toast. Sounds strange, but it was heavenly.

Four of us came here for dinner on a Friday night… and at 8:30 the place was more than half empty. I can see why. The service was great… the server was friendly and efficient, and knew her wines down pat. The ambience was nice… the waiters spoke French to each other so that adds to the authenticity I guess? But for the prices paid I expected better. The bread was warm and toasted and yummy. We got mussels and frites for an appetizer and the fries were amazing… very crunchy and flavourful. But we didn’t come here for just fries. The mussels were good but I’ve had way better. For the main dish I had steak bites that also came with fries(the same fries we had as an appetizer). The steak was tasty but was on the rough side instead of the mouth-watering tender bites that make people come back to pricey restaurants like this. I probably should have ordered seafood since it was probably their specialty. I heard their seafood towers were great but they were over $ 75 each so we passed on that. My friends got trout and the seafood bouillabaisse which they said was quite good. So not a terrible restaurant, but nothing to make you want to go back. The best French in Vancouver IMO is Le Faux Bourgeois… now THAT place is a memorable French dining experience.

I’d be tempted to put a 3.5. Tableu was great but seems to be losing its greatness as time goes by. Once a fovourite, my wife and I have eaten here maybe 10 times over the past three years and it seems that the food isn’t improving with time. Our last venture was a week ago on a Friday night for dinner with out of town guests. The men had steak frites with poutine(a bit underwhelming being light on the cheese), and the ladies had a pasta dish and a the fish — both tasty but uninspiring meals. With wine and drinks(no desert due to allergies) our total came to just over $ 300 for what wasn’t a particularly memorable meal. We’ll likely go back but might try something else first.

Brunch on a Sunday morning at such a refreshing spacious venue. Chic decors, pool tiled ceiling one hopes food to match? I, eggs benny topped smoked salmon pickled onion, fixed side of fried small potatoes– a delightful change. Biscuit built tough as gingersnap cookie, a steak knife you should not quest. Hollandaise sauce mimics vanilla café over there. Twin eyes fitting for a snack as my heart begged a third, a side or even unasked bread? Balanced with a sip of flavour. They, chicken waffle I not taste, sloth speed munch with portions left behind? Meter ticks, a half empty me. Oysters, earl grey alone I shan’t forget.

Been here a total of 3 times for dinner with enjoyable experiences each time. Wife had the Steak Frites and I had the Salmon special. The Steak Frites were great, ALMOST as good as Les Faux Bourgeois. The addition of a small salad with the fries was a nice touch of value for $ 22. I love places that have special boards and Tableau has one of the best in Vancouver. All of their specials sounded delicious and had something for everyone. If you want to be spoiled with choices, be sure to get there early so they don’t run out(happened to me TWICE!!) The service was professional and knowledgeable. The wine list is pretty pricey with no choices for people who don’t want to spend more than $ 40 on a bottle. The beer was SO good, with several great unique choices. All in all, a great french bistro perfect for date night(not the best location when it comes to convenience though). I will be back to try their brunch for sure!

Yum Tableau Bar Bistro is definitely one of the best French restaurants in Vancouver, and also affordable! I’ve been here only a few times but I must say that I’ve walked out full and happy each time. Their mussels were very good but their fries were perhaps just above average. We also had some pork dish and the piece of cheesy garlic bread on top was heavenly. The only picture I saved from our most recent visit was the steak frites but because we ordered their poutine(which was just okay good) we substituted the frites for a salad. Many of the severs here have thick French accents so if you’re not used to that, you might have a hard time comprehending what they’re trying to say. The majority of them are fairly nice though and the general vibe of the place was very casual and not pretentious at all. Note: The gravy they used on their poutine was almost… sweet? It was still good because… well I don’t really know how you can screw up a poutine!
