While I’m not a fan of BC wine, this store has a reasonable selection of VQA wines, including the usual suspects (Mission Hill, Cedar Creek, etc.) as well as mid-​size and small wineries. Their prices used to be the same than the price at the winery (which is still the price at the government stores), but unfortunately they have recently increased prices several dollars for most bottles they sell, compared to the winery/​government store price. I’ll keep coming for the Haywire and Tantalus pinot noirs, but just because they are not available elsewhere. Other than that, some private stores have a comparable selection of VQA wines, AND of non-​VQA ones as well.

Nice place, friendly costumer service. Helpful if you need it but will leave you alone so you can look too.
Prices seemed to range between $ 13 to $ 40. There was a nice assortment of wines on sale.
Seems to have a great selection (not too many commercial brands so if you’re looking for those, head somewhere else).
The store is so easily organized by type of wine. Pinot Noirs and other reds are right next to each other so I easily found everything I wanted.
The store has a lot of fun little extras to shop thru like wine openers, coasters, etc.

Great staff, its a very relaxing place with no pressure and a great selection. They don’t scoff at you if you aren’t knowledgeable about wine and they do a great job helping you select what you are looking for.

Came in today looking for oyster bay and was close to disappointment before Michelle stepped with a substitute called Clos du Soleil. Happy to say it was an excellent choice! Also, she hung up on her boss (politely) just to help me out. Great service!

The Friday night tastings are my favourite way to try a wide range BC wines so that I know what’s what. The store Manager, Michelle, is very inviting and makes me feel part of a community when I stop in to shop.

Be still my VQA loving heart.
Swirl is a great stop for all things wine! Glasses, napkins, tuns of random wine-​accesories, nibbles to go with your purchase — even bacon salts!!! Yes, bacon salts. The staff are all very helpful without being pushy or annoying. I have asked questions on more than one occassion and more than once I have been educated in the way of the grape — and yes, I have later busted out that knowledge when with friends in order to impress.
I’ve also requested to have wines ordered in for me and have had no push back or issue, BCL just doesn’t do that!
One of my favorite things about Swirl is the tastings! I have wandered in with no particular wine in mind a number of times and have been plesantly surprised by Jackson Triggs or Blasted Church samples (and they free-​hand pour a little heavy sometimes!!!).
The only con? I have to resist going in on the way to the Starbucks (next door) or when getting on the train across the street.

What I love about this store is that they have more than just wine — they sell a lot of cool stuff — wine-​related gifts, books, gadgets, etc. which is perfect when you’re looking for something for that person who is hard to shop for. I always stop by when I’m looking for a gift and I never leave empty-​handed.
I recently went to Swirl to try a new wine as well as grab a bottle of my favourite port — the woman behind the counter was really knowledgable when helping me select something. She also earned a few extra brownie points with me when she came out from behind the counter to give my dog a treat. In my opinion, people who are friendly and outwardly affectionate towards dogs MUST be quality people. :o)
Plus, I lucked out as the port that I wanted was on sale — total score!

Located conveniently across the street from the Yaletown Canada line station, Swirl is a great wine shop, particularly for BC wines, as noted by other reviewers.
I was here a number of months ago and have two brief stories to tell. We had missed their tasting but because the shop was quiet that day, the staff person offered to pour us a few samples from already open bottles (this is not something I would expect on a regular basis but it was just really nice on this occasion). Then, as I was considering a bottle from a winery that I liked, I ran into a rep from there and he was able to recommend how to pair it. Sold!
So, I’ve experienced some dumb luck in my experience with Swirl but I wouldn’t hesitate to step in here on my way to a friend’s place downtown, etc. You can sign up to receive their newsletter or follow them on Twitter, which will keep you informed of upcoming tasting events if that would be of interest.

I have been to Swirl a few times now and every time I go there I am very impressed with their selection and price.
I also really enjoy their layout, its the only wine store I have been in where they have it organized by type. A section for each kind make it very easy to pick the best pinot for your buck!
They even have a section for cheap and cheerful wines.
They also do wine tasting quite often which are always a blast. The president for The View winery was there last night and was very knowledgeable and friendly.
Their pricing even matches what you would be paying at the actual winery, which is incredible.
So if you are looking for a delicious BC wine at a reasonable price go to swirl you will not be disappointed!

I’ve been coming to this wine store for years. It used to be called Taylorwood Wines but couple of years ago, it changed to Swirl. I guess the original owners sold and the name got changed.
The staff here is very friendly and knowledgeable. And it is the only place I know that sells House of Q BBQ sauce. A bbq sauce at a wine store but this sauce is freakin’ amazing. Anyhow, back to the wine store. They have a good stock of VQA wines and other cute accessories for you wine glasses and for your wine along with stemware.
If I ever need a wine for a special occasion or in need of a good recommendation, I know where to go.

we stumbled upon this place on a cold rainy day in desperate need of alcoholic sustenance of the non-​alaska-​beer variety. this store is AMAZING — stuffed full of BC wines — who knew there were so many? well-​organized, great prices, with friendly, knowledgable service to boot. every city should have such a place to showcase its regional wines.

I enjoy coming to this neighborhood wine store, because of the friendly service, great BC wine selection, and knowledgeable staff. It doesn’t hurt that it’s close to where I live and they have decent hours either.
The prices are reasonable I suppose for a specialty wine store, and they bring in some BC wines you wouldn’t see in a regular liquor store. I only wish they did MORE than just BC wines so I wouldn’t have to go find another store! But alas, I suppose that’s why they’re a ‘specialty’ store.
I haven’t been to one of their tastings yet, though I hear they’re great. I have come here several times now to pick up a bottle or two for special occasion and will continue to do so whenever I feel like picking up a BC special.

I came here to get some BC wines b/​c I always try to learn about local wines when I travel. Given my goal, this was a great place. They staff really knew the wines and I was able to learn a little about BC wines. I left with three or so bottles to take home back to Chicago.
The only downside is that the wines are not at all cheap, especially considering the overall quality and my preference for old world wines. The quality of most BC wines is probably where Sonoma was back in the 1970s. But they are making progress every year and with global warming, who knows what they do.

Taylorwood is a large wine shop, right in Yaletown. They have purely BC wines, which is my preference to support our local wineries. I’ve spent time touring and tasting in both BC and Napa Valley, and our wines are some of the best in the world.
Complimentary tastings often, they have a great little tasting bar at the back of the shop. Very pleasant staff and knowledgeable staff, just them the occasion of your wine purchase, they will nail it every time.
I never leave without at least 2 bottles — one regular and one new adventure!

Nobody has reviewed Taylorwood in ages — I love these guys! We try to make the wine tastings on Thursday and Sundays. We don’t manage to make it to every one, but it’s always fun. The shop focuses on BC wines, and offers excellent wine knowledge. The prices are a wee bit above BC Liquor stores, but the ambiance definitely makes up for it. They value their regular customers, and make you feel at home.

The warmth and coziness of the shop’s décor make you imagine a fireplace crackling in the corner. The dedicated tasting bar gives the feel of a well-​trafficked winery. Every Thursday 4:30 — 6:30, Sunday 3– 5pm, Taylorwood pours four to six VQA (Vintners Quality Alliance) wines organized either by winery, varietal, the season, or whimsical staff picks.
Staffers are pleasant and helpful, and they sometimes bring in VQA winemakers or agency reps to pour. The tastings attract downtown workers and enough regulars to be clubby. I met my best wine pal there in the middle of a flight of merlots.
