Stein Medical Clinic

Very disappointed in the booking system — either check in the morning in person if they have someone to book an appointment with in the afternoon (which will likely result in having to wait anyways), or pay $ 40 to guarantee an appointment time — how is this ok? Why has the Ministry of Health even allowed this to happen?
I find this system really terrible and incredibly inconsiderate to patients (the majority of whom I’m assuming have busy, full time jobs and don’t have the time to be running back and forth to the clinic attempting to book an appointment).
Very lame. It’s too bad as all the doctors I’ve met in the past at Stein have been great, but the booking system needs to change.

Please don’t pay $ 40 to make an appointment online for fast-​track service. You still have to wait. If I knew it’s not really a «fast-​track» service, I would have never paid $ 40…

Walked in this morning at 9am and the stars just aligned — I got taken to a room immediately and a doctor came inside within 5 minutes. I’ve had him before but this time he was really attentive and we were totally on the same page. There was no trouble requesting specific blood work and other tests for my probable raging thyroid symptoms. I was, obviously, a dire Case today!

Not bad but hard to make an appointment. I rang once within office hours and let the phone ring for FORTY MINUTES — nobody answered. No voicemail system, no message saying to call back. To make an appt you must come in, make the appt for the same day, then come back. I guess that’s what you get for a drop-​in clinic?

Came in in the morning to get an appointment (as you cannot book a regular appointment over the phone/​website). They gave me one for 11:45. When I came back at 11:45, I was told that my appointment was booked for 9:30 and I missed it! So I was made to wait. Finally got to see the doctor at 1:00.
Given that the doctor is always in a hurry to see the next person, the wait and the trouble cause due to mis-​scheduling is absolutely not worth it. They had 4 receptionists and I don’t know what they are doing if they cannot get the time of the appointment right.
On other occasions, when I brought in a family member, I was again made to wait in spite of coming in earlier in the day just to book an appointment. The only reason I find myself going back to this place is because I am new to Canada and do not have a family physician here yet. I hope to get one soon so I never have to deal with this place.

The office itself is clean and the décor is sparse and streamlined.
This clinic suffers from the same maladies as other clinics in the downtown area: it’s too busy. Even if you get an exact appointment time, be prepared to wait 45 minutes to an hour. And if you try to come late in the day, the doctors will have reached their quota of patients to see, and you’ll be turned away… so don’t bother.
That said, the doctors themselves are nice and knowledgeable.
If you’re lucky enough to have a regular family doctor count your blessings, and stick to him or her!

PLEASE READ! This clinic is not a good clinic — I’m my experience. I work in the health care field and the errors committed by this clinic and Dr Lising is borderline malpractice! Not only was the wrong blood test and ultrasound ordered by Dr Lising — I had to return twice for my name being spelt wrong. The major issue is that this clinic was sitting on positive test results for 3 weeks and when I saw my ObGYN she was appalled to see that no one had called me in to get a prescription. This mistake has put myself and my unborn child in danger. I can’t stress enough — this clinic is not a place you want to go to. I will not refer any more patients to this clinic — and I will never return.

I can’t speak enough great words about Dr. Stein and his staff. The reception is kind and as a patient dealing with private insurance (an expat living in CA) they have been very helpful, even taking the time to explain what I should do to submit my claims. I came to Dr. Stein as a recommendation from Sport & Spinal (another fantastic Vancouver place!) for ankle pain while training for Ironman Canada and running marathons. Not only did Dr. Stein sympathize with my problem (an Ironman and marathoner himself!) but he was able to treat my ankle and within days I was back running and cycling with no pain. Thank you so much for your kind bedside manner and reassuring me that I can get through my training. Highly recommend Stein Medical Clinic.

What, s the point of the receptionist recommending making an afternoon appointment for a doctor-​initiated visit for results and then having to wait over 1 and a half hours more to see the doctor. I ended up having to leave at the 1.5 hr mark (after the apptmt time) as I had to go back to work. Who knows how much longer the wait would have continued to be!
Note: I typically like this clinic and have attended for over 3 yrs now and think the world of Dr. Briggs and Dr. Burlin and would have rated the clinic a 3 – 4 star.
It’s just that their afternoon booking system could and should be improved.
Just beware of how long you might have to wait, even if you have made an apptmt for followup results.

Staff are friendly, place is immaculately clean.
The seating is limited and uncomfortable. Whoever thought this was a good idea obviously did not spend more than 5 minutes testing it. I’m tall and this is uncomfortable.
Long waits. Longer than long. I came in at 9:17 to put my name down. It is now 11:20 an I haven’t been seen yet. I was told the wait was 45 minutes…
Medical clinics are all bad for this, but 2 hours is a bit much.
Anyway, I’ll be back. The location is good and they offer non-​allopathic options.

SLOW. As I write this I have been sitting in the waiting room for over an hour. On an uncomfortable backless wooden bench.
The desk staff are always very bad at estimating wait times.
At least it seems cleaner than most other walk in clinics.
If your ailment is not urgent I suggest you make an appointment elsewhere.

Agree that front staff service is not stellar. I wish they have an alert about charging $ 20 for a medical note at the front desk. This is an unpleasant surprise at the end of the medical exam (not to mention waiting time)… I’d prefer to make an informed decision about which clinic serves my needs

It’s a stylish walk in and although I was seen in fairly decent time and the young doctor helped me for my issue, they need to improve certain aspects of their customer service in general and understand that we are just as impatient as they are but we all need to work together. We are not having fun when feeling awful and I am sure they’re day is long. The receptionist was really nice at least. When I went there most of the staff were women which is a huge plus for me ’cause even though men understand certain things medically, it’s good to have a women who has been there done that. I also feel generally more comfortable dealing with women, especially in the down there region.

Worst «walk in» clinic ever! Last 3 times I’ve come to this clinic it’s busy or they send u away for 2 hours. I walked in this morning at 930am and they told me they are fully booked for the day. THERE WASN’T 1 SINGLE person sitting there waiting! They said they only had one doctor all week and they close early. Must be nice to make too much money and not have to work a full day. Never coming back here again.

Yes this is me reviewing another medical walk-​in clinic. I wish more walk-in’s were like this. It’s clean, it’s comfortable. The doctors are pretty good most of the time in terms of listening to you.
I came here recently to get new medication refill. The one on Burrard was busy so they called the other Stein clinic 5 minutes away, and I just walked one block, and had no wait time. Awesome. The only thing I wish is that they had a way of transferring my records between the two clinics since the other clinic had my previous blood tests, and the other did not which meant I spent a good ten minutes explaining stuff. However, I digress the doctor was really good. The doctor came up with a plan for my medication, she went over all the different medications available, and what seemed to be my best option based on my symptoms, and told me to come back in a few months time. She went over what was in the market in my price range, and to keep track of any symptoms I may experience during that several month period so I could over them with a walk in doctor at another time.
I hate walk in clinics, I hate medical centres and honestly this is one of my best experiences ever. If you know anything about me that’s high praises.

Never reviewed a clinic before and honestly reviewing clinics never came to my mind but I have to review this one.
Presentation: Contemporary, modern, just styling! The décor and color scheme is very modern and clean, following a simplistic look and feel. The entire clinic uses mac products from reception (iPad) to imacs and macbook airs.
Staff: All women which is a bonus for me since I’m a girl and I feel so much more comfortable going to an all female clinic :) no awkwardness for whatever you feel like asking
Wait time: reasonable, 30 – 40 min. much like all walk in clinics
Knowledge: 5 star! The prescription they gave me was dead on! No more rashes and itchy skin for me!
Overall, best walk in clinic ever, i would say it beats my family doctor by far! Knowledgeable staff, clean clinic, welcoming entrance. If you can find a better clinic let me know but I bet this one is hard to beat!

They care LOT about big money and don’t attempt to hide the fact.
The owner’s wife is running his clinic which makes for strange happenings.
Compassion not their strong suit.
If you have the finances to book private appointments not covered by the BC medical plan, they will fawn all over you — otherwise you are just another number to hurry up and see so they can hurry up and finish with the other peasants.
For a doctor he looks very unhealthy — maybe its the greed?

I just had my first visit here. I was concerned because I have been hunting for a family doctor. But they said they do both or that you can treat this walk-​in clinic like that.
I had two things I needed. One was a prescription refill. The other was a condition I’ve had for over four years which one doctor, my previous one, has brushed aside. You don’t want to know but needless to say this doctor said I definitely had something and has set up a bunch of scans. I told him the other doctors opinion. He basically said that was one doctor, and he believes another thing and it’s better to be safe and get all the work done. But to him, it was obvious there was something.
I found my doctor. And the staff are fantastic there. It’s very modern, almost sci-​fi like. Which pleases my Star Trek nerd side. The staff are great, there wasn’t a long wait time, and it was just a perfect experience.
But don’t go there! I don’t want anyone finding out about this place. ;)

Best clinic I’ve ever been to. The Dr. knew what was wrong with me right away. BRONCHITIS, WOO! I’ve never been so happy to find out how sick I was, haha!
Really though, pretty solid Dr. and the staff are friendly (which doesn’t happen often in medical clinics). So glad I went here. The wait time wasn’t even 5 minutes, sweet.

Never thought I’d review a medical clinic, and I’m simultaneously wondering if I should keep it to myself or not…
You know how you go to a clinic, and you finally get in, and you mention the one thing you’re there for… then depending on the mood of the doctor you’ve gotten, you debate whether to bring up another concern you have, or the other three that are on your list… but half the time you just leave after your main thing has been addressed because you know how many people are waiting and you know that the doctor is rushing you a bit. WELL, my downtown clinic-​seeking friends, this place is not that. AT ALL.
I had a sharp pain in my shoulder after moving an exercise bike into storage (IRONY!), and finally went here to get it checked out based on a colleagues recommendation. The doctor was great, and while examining my shoulder and determining which muscles are torn, he also noticed something else that seemed out of whack and asked some more questions, determining that I should get some testing done. What clinic doctor goes above & beyond like that? Totally unrelated potential issue, too.
Aside from the awesome Doctor, the admin staff is also great. Fast service. There’s also a women’s clinic, which I believe you can make appointments for. Considering it takes me 6 months to get in with my GP, I plan to come back here more often.
