I heard so much about this place and finally had a chance to try it out. First of all when we walked in the lady behind the counter didn’t even bother to look up to greet us. So we took a menu and ordered a wild salmon paradise and an unagi bowl… still no smile or «hi». The food was refreshing and light. Im not sure if i would go back again.

This place is a go-to place if you want to eat out but still feel healthy. I’ve been here on multiple occasions and it’s always been refreshing. I either get the salmon carpaccio bowl or the eel bowl. I like the eel better cause it comes with soo much eel, whereas the salmon one has very little salmon. The rice, salad, edamame etc is always good. I usually get the combo, the drinks are aesthetically pleasing usually pretty watery and not very flavourful, so not something I’d recommend. Also had the matcha sundae which was decent! Wish they had a better ratio of ice cream to corn flakes though.

Honestly one of my favourite go to places for not only a healthy meal but one that gets you full since nowadays many more health conscious restaurants give small portions or end up tasting a little bland, not here! Tip: if you can’t decide what to get try the eel rice never fails(:

I feel like Shishinori is a good place to go if you want to eat Japanese food without sticking to sushi or ramen. There are a wide range of items(from salads to sandwiches) and all of them are healthy enough that you won’t feel guilty about it afterwards. My boyfriend got the shoyu ahi poke bowl and the strawberry creamy tea while I got the salmon paradise bowl(with egg and avocado) and a lavender tea. Our total was a bit over $ 30 which isn’t bad at all for drinks and food for two. Despite arriving there during peak hours(12:30) we still got our food rather quickly. The actual struggle at Shishinori is finding a seat. We managed to luck out and get a table right after ordering, but the dozen people behind us weren’t as lucky. Although the poke wasn’t as good as what I’m used to(being from Hawaii) it was good enough for the mainland. I found it interesting that there were fruits in our salads. Not many places are willing to make that creative choice but I for one appreciated it, makes it more fun. I just found the dishes very light and fresh, a nice change from all the carb-heavy food I’ve been eating as of late. However, if you’re a person who relies heavily on protein you might find that the dishes aren’t filling enough. The bowls are about 50% veggies, 30% rice, and 20% meat. A good ratio for breakfast or a small lunch, but maybe not for dinner.

I got spicy tuna poke. I have had poke many many times in Hawaii and LA, but Shishinori’s poke was very different. The whole meal, I only tasted kochu jan(korean spicy paste). Ok it is spicy poke, so you have to put some kind of spice in it to make it spicy. But this spicy poke, I felt like they just put too much kochu jan and nothing else for seasoning. Surprise! Kochujan was just too sweet and overpowering.

A solid 3 ½ stars. This place is great for a quick fresh lunch. You order at the counter first, take a seat, and the server brings your food. Finding a seat when they are busy can be a challenge. Also, service can be slow when they get a rush as the cashier/server also preps drinks & desserts and clear tables! The sandwiches here are quite delicious and very reasonably priced. Most of their Japanese style subs are less than $ 5. The ingredients are healthy and fresh, no deep fried or processed meats! Their ahi poke«bowl» is an interesting creation. It’s served with grapes & strawberry pieces, who would’ve thunk such a thing would go with tuna? And their matcha parfaits are yummy. Tasty food, cute décor, clean space and friendly staff makes it a consistently satisfying light lunch/snack stop for me.

So fresh and so clean, clean! That’s the feeling I got after eating here at Shishinori. A small little alcove tucked in between Save-On-Foods and Home Depot, you’ll find a freshly decorated restaurant with 5 – 6 tables inside and 2 tables outside facing Cambie Street. My sister and I came here on a Tuesday at 11pm and we sat down quickly but saw lots of people coming in and out for take-out. You order at the counter and then you can choose take-out or dine-in. If you dine-in, there’s a projector playing animé on the wall! I ordered the Wild Salmon Paradise Bowl($ 11.50) and made it a Combo(+$ 2.50) with Enoki Miso Soup and Peach Black Tea. On the chalk board you can decide what daily drink and soup or dessert you’d like with your combo. Our food came within 10 minutes and it was very nicely presented on a wooden platter. First off, the Enoki Miso Soup was a warm and pleasant starter. I thoroughly enjoyed the enoki mushrooms bathing in the balanced miso soup among the soft seaweed and tofu squares. The Peach Black Tea had a subtle taste of peach with rich black tea flavour, served ice cold in a mason jar. My Wild Salmon Paradise Bowl was so colourful and I could feel my daily recommendations of vegetables being tick tick ticked off. On the bottom was brown rice, all topped off with my wild salmon sashimi mix and a huge mound of spinach, alfalfa sprouts, carrots, cabbage and edamame. The salad had a nice sweet vinaigrette and there was a miscellaneous slice of melon, raspberry and one grape. The salmon sashimi was sweetly sauced and tossed with avocado and apple cubes. Every spoonful was a delicious combination of fresh and savoury flavours. Overall, very nice service and there was a generous amount of food that left me full but not heavy. That’s why Shishinori is so fresh and so clean, clean! I will definitely be back for ShishiMORE please ;)

Nested within the busy 7th and 8th block down Cambie, you would almost miss this small storefront if not for the busy flow of people during lunch hour. Great for a quick bite for the health conscious. The menu is a mix and match of salmon carpaccio/prawns/and their cha-shu(their original teriyaki variant) along with salad and brown rice. The food has a very home-cooked feeling to it and is really quite tasty. I have tried their okonomiyaki, but found their regular plates with cha-shu much more appealing. If you’re in for something quick and light as well as healthy, this place ranks amongst the top in the North Cambie area. Food: 4⁄5: Great tasty chicken teriyaki cha-shu! Ambience: 3⁄5: Small seating/eating area. Service: 3⁄5: Mainly self serve but attentive staff. Overall: 4⁄5

Shishinori is a decent choice for fast fresh food in Cambie Village. Most dishes are salad and rice based, and I selected the wild salmon bowl. It was served on a bed of brown rice that was sweetened with a dressing that was just too sweet for my liking. The bowl includes tons of fresh veggies(spinach, sprouts, carrots, cabbage) and some apples and grapes, too. The salmon and avocado was on top of all the veggies. There was a side of edamame too. It was a good sized serving for $ 12.00. The breakfast menu looks good and I’d like to return to try that, or perhaps a different salad bowl next time. A good choice when you want something fast and fresh.

Hello Shishi friends and family. I like this place because I appreciate healthy food, that’s filling and presented with due attention and care. SHIshinori does it right, peeps. They also seem to have re-vamped their menu since a year ago! Came here for a quick lunch during a work week. I waited in line to order for about 6 mins? Poor employee was hustling all around by herself during the lunch hour. I tried the spicy chicken chasu this time around-the amount of protein you get from the meat isn’t something to write home about, but it is enough that it will keep you full. The brown rice, spinich salad(what is the salad dressing made of? I quite like it, even though it’s so plain and drizzled ever so lightly on the fresh leaves) and the cool blueberry, edamame, pickled ginger, blueberries etc. all come together like a happy family on a plate. I was sitting beside a couple who ordered the rainbow looking soft serve dessert — talk about envy. Must go back and try. Enough talking, go try it.

You know what the risk of ordering take out is? It’s a gamble to trust the business to get your order right and to prepare your dishes with the same care as if you were dining in. Tonight I ordered a Tofu Avocado Salad to go, it’s a solid dish from what I remember. I was about to dig in, but the smell that came out of my box was repelling, it was sour in a very bad way. It was inedible. I live 10 mins away from their location, it’s February and chilly out, it’s not the kinda weather or temperature to spoil your food within such short period of time. Sad to say, the quality of Shishinori seems to have gone out the door or they are just very careless as this wasn’t my first bad experience. Prior to this visit, they served me a rice bowl with a rotten raspberry. No big deal but makes me wonder if they care to wash their ingredients properly. It’s a shame that they lost their reputation due to a rotten garnish but serving potentially spoiled food is disappointing to a whole new level.

We came here for the matcha parfait. The mixture of the soft serve matcha ice cream, mochi, gummy bears, marshmallows, pocky and jelly was delicious. The giant layer of cornflakes at the bottom was the reason why I’m giving them 3 stars. About ¼ of the cup was cornflakes and it was all at the bottom. By the time i had eaten down far enough to mix it in, it was just wrong proportionately. It felt like we were eating a cup of cornflakes with scant amounts of green tea ice cream mixed in. They should consider fixing the ingredient proportions of this dessert.

Neat little gem! The food is tasty and healthy. I love how much salad they give you along with the meal. Good serving proportions. We ordered the unagi and curry prawn meals. I loved their unagi. It was super tasty and served on brown rice. The curry is alright. I think its lacking a bit of flavor though. They also serve soft-serve ice cream and their parfait is quite popular too. Prices are a bit expensive compared to similar places but I think its worth it as the ingredients seem fresh. It tastes healthy(not sure if this makes sense ;))

So yummy and healthy with great pricing on food. Desserts are pricy at close to $ 10 wish the shaved ice bowls are $ 5. The salmon paradise was fantastic with perfect egg add on. The only other downside is that the place is tiny so you many not find sitting at the busy hours. Value 4⁄5 Atmosphere 4⁄5 Service 4⁄5 Quality 5⁄5 17⁄20

OMG these delicious salad plates are one thing I truly love. I can not have enough of it. Even though it is light and delicious, I needed it. I pasted by here COUNTLESS times, but never went in to try the place out. Since my friends and I were in the area for lunch/brunch we had to come here and try it out! OMG, it wasn’t disappointing at all~! The salads were perfect and light and flavorful. I didn’t expect that at all. I ordered the Crabcake California salad. It was delicious. They literally did it like a california roll, with a side salad of greens and the dressing was light. The eggs were perfectly cooked, the way I liked it, not too cooked in the middle, so it was a little oozing out. Thinking about it makes me salivate already. LOL The combo comes with a nice iced tea. And I ordered the strawberry creamy. Not the best, but it was delicious, light and perfect for the energy of the day. It was an iced tea, I had a little of my friend’s Mango Green tea, and that was better than the Strawberry Creamy. I should have ordered that instead… :X Overall the place is cute, small and a nice café. Would come here often if I lived or worked in the area. The perfect lunch place. And I have yet to try their desserts~! They looked delicious.

Quirky little place! Very unique selection of Japanese influenced food options all the way from savory teryaki chicken or curries to green tea soft serve. The service was a very friendly young girl who promptly took our order and was very helpful the whole time. The place is decorated with traditional Japanese animé and things of the like which made the experience somewhat authentic for being in BC! I got one of their ahi poke entrees. My boyfriend got a curry chicken dish and said it was very tasty.(Although he wanted to eat mine, as usual) My favorite of the trip was the quirky little soft serve parfait that I posted a photo of. It was so weird that it was good… if that makes any sense LOL. I’m a big fan of bean paste and mochi so I loved it especially with the corn flakes. My white-boy boyfriend was not so hot on the bean paste but he said the soft serve was awesome. Check this place out if you ever are in the area and want some unique Japanese cusine!

I heard about this place from my sister. She told me that the unagi on rice was huge and really cheap. I love big cheap portion food. I mean who doesn’t. So came here and the unagi on rice is $ 12.95 and the portion is regular size. OK. how is this big and cheap. well their food is nothing too special. Then I notice lots of people ordering their parfait. Here is the interesting part. I think this place is a parfait place and not a food place. YUP. I love their parfait. It looks ordinary when you first get it. I mean there are corn flakes at the bottom and two pokey sticks and a waffle twirl chocolate stick at top. By the way should have mentioned, I ordered the macha parfait. Its only when you start digging in then you notice there are star jelly and other hidden gems in it. So the décor is cool at this place. Very Japanese because it plays Japanese films. And are ran by Japanese. Place is a bit small. But if its a parfait place then its not bad. I will return.

This Japanese restaurant gives the public a healthy image. Food is very fresh, green and less oil. The dessert, the matcha parfait, is the best. The portion of each dish is small to me though although I don’t eat a lot. If a person eats a lot, one dish is not good enough unless he or she adds a dessert to the meal. The restaurant is small and it is always full and people need to wait for seats. Basically you go eat there and leave. It is not a good place for people to stay and mingle. The location wise is very good as it is very close to the Canada line station. It opens till 8pm though, so we cannot go there for dinner late.

This café is pretty unique and by that I mean awesome. The menu here appeals to several different tastes and is reasonably priced, which is always a good tactic. Prices are reasonable in this modern café and Shishinori adds their own personal(perhaps even cultural) touch with their décor and asian-cartoons being projected on the wall. My favorite was the california bowl with fresh crab meat and brown rice, it was such a healthy and fantastic meal. If you aren’t into bowls their subs are actually fantasic and at $ 4 – 5 each, they are a fantastic on-the-go pickup, whether you like Chicken or Tofu. I found their bread to be lackluster and questionably fresh, but I am picky so take that point with a «grain of salt».
