Safeway

I feel like this Safeway isn’t as clean as the others… The selection isn’t that big. It’s right near my home and there’s a liquor store but I don’t think id come here often if I could help it. You’re better off probably going to overwrites, superstore or price mart. There are sometimes good deals that go on for weeks which is nice.

I was given a parking violation ticket by Diamond Parking Ltd, and they refused to consider my appeal, even after i told them how i had dropped my 86 year old father at entrance and parked and had to cross the street to get his care card from my brother, and then was back in the store, where we found out that my father’s prescription would take longer than they thought. so we left store, as we were not able to get other medication either.
Thank god, the manager at Safeway, understood what happened and took my parking ticket and said he would get it canceled.
The parking company are worse than sharks, they don’t care about individual cases. I am a single mother on low assistance and the $ 64 fine, is like taking food from my kid’s mouth. i even told them to check the camera’s installed to see that i was in store for like only 20 minutes. Folks, be wary about the parking company, because their agenda is to just ticket you.
The staff at Safeway are really nice, very helpful, and all i can say about the manager, Mr. Sunny, is bless his heart!

Oh my god! If you’re going to shop here be sure to thoroughly wash any fresh produce you buy! After seeing the sludge the green onions were soaking in I will never be back. This location needs some major TLC. Not only is it filthy, the selection is limited as well. I highly suggest you go else where.

I haven’t been to this Safeway in a very long time, and when I came here on the weekend I checked on the Unilocal app and saw that the reviews just slagged this place, what gives? Parking my car, this place has a huge parking lot, where if you had new drivers, you could teach them in this lot in the middle of the night with zero problems of hitting anything. And while walking toward the entrance I noticed a temporary banner telling everyone they sell Asian goods in every aisle??? This has got to be new, and my mom confirmed this. as this was the reason for coming to this location.
Walking in… it’s like every big Safeway. usually you are going to see a Starbucks barrista somewhere in here. and there it was… but this one was different, and held true to the ‘Asian’ products being sold! The front is usually displaying sale items. but these sale items I’m used to seeing at T&T, stuff like bags of Thai jasmine rice, chicken stock, 5 packs of Nissin instant noodles, hey what gives? This area has become quite Chinese over the years, not just the businesses, but the inhabitants, and this is probably a smart move by the people at Sobey’s to fight with the little grocery markets around the area. Going into the produce isle they had Asian greens, nicely bagged and labeled too, well if I lived around the area, and also knowing the fact that Safeway is open till 12, I would be coming here to shop, not driving a little farther if not needed to go to that other Asian supermarket!
Just remember, you don’t need that Safeway card no more, and you don’t have to give your phone number, and still one of the best things they do… is when they have like a 4 for $ 10, you really don’t have to buy all 4. just 1. for $ 2.50, it just makes it look good. unlike Superstore with all their tricks of having to buy a certain number to bring down the price. This is a pretty busy Safeway from the day I was there, and just remember everyone is working their hardest and you really can’t please everyone, so I’m giving a fair nod in saying this place is alright to shop for your stuff, and now more Asian than ever. The isles are long and wide, and everything is well lit and easy to navigate!

I can usually find what I’m looking for at this location, but the deli is usually disorganized and the restrooms could use more maintenance and the women at the Starbucks are usually not very friendly. Aside from that, the overall experience here is just ok.

I like this Safeway, I usually pick up stuff on my way home from work. My favorite departments are the meats and bakery, they always have smaller cuts of beef (prime rib) here, so for a single guy that’s pretty good and I like their cheese sticks in their bakery, their not soggy like some other Safeways. Usually lots of parking and open late. Pricing is kinda expensive but that’s why you buy when on sale and don’t need the Safeway card anymore either.

The woman at the deli counter who makes sandwiches is awesome!
She usually wears a dark pink headband and is just so friendly. She remembered me after my first visit and I always go back to her.
Just thought it’d be nice to recognize her on here — kudos lady!

Slowest pharmacy in the world. Doesn’t matter what time of day you come in, it’s always at least a 20 minute wait to fill even the simplest of prescriptions.

I have been to this Safeway a few times as I recently lived in the area, and I have to say, this store is not very nice. The store is dirty and dark, and there always seem to be shady looking characters hanging around outside the store. I would not go to this location after sundown. Safeway is so expensive anyway, it’s more worth it to just go to a different grocery store.

The pharmacy department is very helpful and friendly.
I like the layout of this store as they have very wide aisles.
The only complaint is when I needed help, there is no one around, you have to take everything to Customer Service counter and then wait for her to call then continue your shopping.
Don’t bother getting anything from the Deli, they ignore you completely.
I only shop here when they have big Airmiles bonus as the prices are a little higher than average.
Sad to see with so many competition around the area, they have such bad customer service. (except for Pharmacy)

Groceries/​Produce here is fresh and higher quality than most of the grocery stores along Kingsway. Just remember you’re looking at paying much higher prices to shop at Safeway. Even their pop deals «2 for 1» work out to be about the same as buying two pops from Walmart or superstore. The store is well lit and aisles are well organized and stocked so if you’re running in rushing to get out you shoudl be able to find your stuff pretty quickly.
The sandwiches at the deli are the best! Safeway should focus less on their consumer goods and focus more on the fresh food they serve like the deli. So much better than Subway or Quizno’s. They make it fresh in front of you and you can customize however you like.
This location is convenient because it’s in the same lot as the BC Liquor Store. Huge parking lot so finding parking is never a problem here either.

I’ve never been in here but I called the meat department and the man was very helpful and didn’t hesitate to do a price check for me. He even told me to have a good day!

I’ve been in this Safeway quite a few times and every time I go there the place just feels dirty. like not clean. The floor always seems to be dirty, like more than you would expect from a typical grocery store. Nothing looks fresh there, dust on a lot of shelves just a lot of little things like that. I notice those things and they bother me. I don’t feel comfortable buying food from there. Also don’t get any deli sandwiches from there past 7pm. Made me sick last night. The little sushi package my wife got smelt like it had expired a few days ago too. All in all I wouldn’t go to this Safeway if I didn’t have to.

I will be honest. I normally don’t go to Safeway. I find it $$$$ and I normally get what I need either across the border or Extra Foods which is closer to my house. I went to Safeway as I was given a $ 50 gift certificate through work as a holiday bonus. This location was the closest to my home without having to take a train in the cold to the Broadway location. This location is always quiet and most times I get what I want when I am walking in there. I wanted to buy some instant food items as I had to work the following day on NYE and really didn’t feel like spending an hour in the kitchen to prepare something for 1 day. I bought some fruit and veggie platters to start with. The fruit on the fruit platter had mold. I didn’t see this through the packaging as the fruit was hidden from consumer view ’cause of the label. I noticed that the same was another pack of fruit plate that I had purchased. Good-​bye healthy breakfast that day and a start to what was supposed to be a good healthy 2013 start. As for the rest of my lunch, veggies were decent, not as crisp as I had remembered them to be. I spent the rest of the gift certificate on gluten free snacks and bread.

This is my favourite Safeway. Its not too busy, and always a variety of things to choose from. They are open until midnight every day including holidays. If you come here a lot you’ll notice the same staff have been working there for years, but actually do stop to help you if you ask them a question.

As the stars say: Meh. I’ve experienced better. Some of the staff in this safeway are just not friendly at all. No eye contact, not even a dry «hi». Just a tip, leave your problems at home. ;) that’s all! :)

Rented a carpet cleaning machine. The lady at the customer service counter was fast and efficient. I knew what I wanted and she brought out the carpet cleaning machine quickly. No fuss. I also get to use the machine for an extra day because I rented it on a Wednesday. More carpet cleaning time yeah!
