Robinson Lighting & Bath Centre

My transaction was quite easy and low maintenance. At least I thought it was. Before I began anything, I asked one person behind a desk what their return policy was and she directed me to the other department to tell me what the return policy was. So this persons job is to not find answers for you but to send you away to someone else for answers. I suppose not knowing company policy isn’t in her job description.
But any way I came in, looked at the show room, and selected the items that I needed. I went to the register to put an order in. It was for a faucet and a kitchen sink. The girl told me that it will take about a week to ship from the Surrey location to the Vancouver location for me to pick up in store. She printed me a paper. I asked if I needed to pay anything. Sarah, who was helping me, said that I can pay when I pick it up in a week. So I leave thinking that my new fixtures will arrive soon and will look fantastic.
10 days past and I called to ask for a status update on my order. I get transferred 3 times before someone can check on my order status. Once I finally got through to someone, she pulled up my file and asked if I wanted to put down a deposit on it to order. I was quite confused because I was under the impression that it was already ordered and on its way.
Clearly it wasn’t ordered so she said that she can get the order in by tomorrow and that Sarah will call me the next day. Three days past and no calls. I was pretty patient up to that point.
So I just decided to take my business to someone who will appreciate it more.

What exactly do they pay their staff for? That’s got me baffled.

To be quite honest, I have avoided this store for years.
We have renovated 3 homes in 5 years and after spending time at Robinson on the first reno I have made sure never to return.
I totally agree with the other reviews here, they have a great selection but the quality of service is awful.
Too bad, there is really a shortage of good lighting shops in town which is silly for a city that is suppose to have such an active real estate market.
Had to resort to buying online.

The team was good but Jared and David are outstanding. my Swarovski fixture had some broken and missing pieces, Jared ordered new ones and David came to the apartment to make sure it was all put together and hung properly. I am thrilled and delighted with their five star service.

First, the pros: they have a lot of inventory in a wide range of styles AND there is free parking out back (register with reception). The cons: the price point is a bit high but I expected that given the location and the service is very inconsistent. I went first for a reconnoiter mission and saw one fixture in particular that was on sale. Unfortunately, another fixture, similar and by the same manufacturer, remained at full price so I went home and thought it over. I returned about a week later to purchase the fixture on sale. I had a very difficult time finding someone to help me. I stood waiting for a young woman to finish with another group and asked for her help. I told her the fixture I was interested in. She informed me that it was gone. Sold. She looked it up on the computer and said it would take 8 weeks AND it wasn’t on sale because it was now a special order. I asked for her help in locating another fixture available immediately in a similar price range. Her response? «I have a lot of fixtures and you should just walk around and see what you like». I thought about leaving but I was determined to find a light fixture for my new home so I did just that. When I found another, not quite so nice, fixture, I approached another salesperson (I think his name was Brad). I explained how I’d come to look for another fixture but it was gone and this was my second (and more expensive) choice. He told me he thought my first choice was still on the floor but had been moved. He took me around the store and showed me. YES. It was the light I had come for. It hadn’t been sold. It was still on sale. I bought it. He looked after me very well. So… had I dealt with the second sales person when I arrived, my rating would be higher. I am really surprised that the young woman I first dealt with cared so little about serving me that she wouldn’t check the inventory to ascertain whether my light was still available.

Fantastic products. Reasonable pricing. The absolute worst experience I have ever experienced.
No one went out of their way to make the experience pleasant or easy. When I asked for help on something I was told to walk to another area of the store to find someone else to talk to. Then when I had to pay I was told to walk to another area to deal with someone else.
I don’t understand businesses that hold themselves above their customers and make them work for it. Shame on me for actually spending any money here.

I came here with my best friend to get some lighting inspiration. As much as a love the ghetto X-​mas lights on my ceiling there will be a time in which I will have to upgrade my lighting system at some point, especially in my basement suite to something a little more classy, not dated and energy efficient. I wrote some ideas in my notebook and the lady who was at the shop was really sweet and helpful in addressing my needs.

Went into this store twice in three weeks to buy new lighting for my entire home but finding someone to help me was like pulling teeth.
Trip 1: Store was relatively quiet. Women behind her desk did not greet me but did make a point to glare at me while I walked around the showroom. After about half an hour I asked the receptionist for help and she called a salesperson to help me. Turned out to be the same women of course who was glaring at me upon arrival. She was rude and short with me until she realized I needed to spend a significant amount of money. At that point she became more friendly. I would have purchased all of her recommendations on the spot but felt so humiliated I told her I needed to sleep on it.
Trip 2: … A week later. Store was a bit busier then my first visit and the salespeople probably felt busy because a number of them would look away while approaching them. I proceeded to seek out the pieces previously recommended by the salesperson. I was standing by a shelf with the LED Downlights. There was only 1 box on the shelf so I picked it up with the intent of asking a nearby sales guy if there were more in the back. The sales person (who in his defense was helping someone at the time) walked up to me and took the light right out of my hand! Without a word he turned and showed the light to another customer. Honestly, i could not believe it!
At that point I left, crossed the street and went to Home Depot where i bought my bathroom lighting. I still have more lighting to buy but will definitely not be getting it from Robinson Lighting on Cambie.

Bought a small Schonbek chandelier on the 1^st of Dec. 2014. When the electrician came and install the chandelier he found out that the one light amongst the 5 wasn’t working and he said the malfunction originated from the shop and he now has to rewire. I emailed the salesman who sold me the chandelier to let him know but I didn’t get an email back. I decided to email him again but didn’t get any answer. So I called the store to talk to the supervisor where I got his voicemail and left him a message. No call back on this either. so I call, their conduct discourteous and rude. The service is so much lacking as you really have to approach them while they are behind the computers or no one will ever come to you.

I have been into this store twice, once for a bathroom light fixture, and more recently to look at kitchen faucets. Both times, no one approached me to ask if I needed help; rather, they all sit at their computers and do not even acknowledge your existence. I have been in multiple other bath & kitchen stores on my mission to find the perfect faucet, and this had the worst service of the bunch. The kitchen faucet selection is very poor as well. But they do have lots of lights!

As was mentioned by another reviewer, the staff that work here are far more interested in sitting behind a computer monitor than asking customers if they need any help. Not one person asked if they could be of any assistance.
There was this one blonde guy in particular whom I directed a few questions about a light fixture and you would think that the store was not in the business of making a sale and generating revenue. He acted as though I was bothering him. At the end of our exchange, he said ‘okay?’ as in ‘this conversation is finished now, can I go back to sitting behind my computer.’ When he said ‘okay’ a second time, it was incredibly grating and I was just like ‘really? this is how you speak to customers?‘
I almost asked ‘oh, I’m sorry, are you not a salesperson? I’m so sorry for bothering you with my questions.’ I will gladly take my business elsewhere than be treated like a nuisance.

When you deal with one place that has a chain of stores you would think that product, let alone service would be consistent around the board. While planning my washroom renovation, this was one of the stops, to see what the better stuff looks like. You can go to your Rona’s and Home Depot’s all you want for building supplies, but when it comes to faucet’s, tubs, shower bases, shower systems, these guys carry a higher end range of product from Grohe to Riobel to Kohler you’ll find some good stuff here. The place has a huge showroom, and when I was in here, walking in, amazingly enough it did not feel like a greenhouse, as you do see a ton of lights being displayed.
This maybe the prettiest Robinson Lighting showroom I have seen, yet they lack service, most people I find behind a computer behind a counter. And compared to another review of mine at another location, I did not get this here, not even a smidgen close to the attention and service I received at another store. I wasn’t even quoted, or given the option of a shower base I was looking for (60×30) and said it would take a few weeks? OK are you guys franchised here, cause I just did this transaction a few hours before entering this store. So I was quite confused with the whole matter, at the same time this store, as said, is nicely located, has great selection, and doesn’t carry the cheap substitutes you might see in places like going along Bridgeport in Richmond where there are a ton of light stores.
If you take pride in where you live, willing to spend more, and not wanting it to look like a cheap addition/​renovation where your renting it out, or flipping it on the market, your probably coming here to get something, the only downside is the service, other than that it’s not a bad store.

Average lighting store, lots of variety, a bit pricey compared to the competition in Richmond and Coquitlam.

This is an impressive shop. Lots of lighting fixtures and the selection is quite large. Convenient location for the Fairview slopes.
I came here to look for a specific bulb. Unfortunately, they did not have it, but were willing to order it in for me. I was hoping that a specialty lighting store had it, but they didn’t.
I also went to the plumbing side to ask a question about a leaky faucet and what the problem may be. I got the advice I was looking for. Even though they were not «plumbers» they were able to help me out.
Free parking in the back but you need to register your vehicle with them.

Robinson maintains the perfect balance between having a lot of selection in a wide variety of design styles in various price points and not overloading the store and creating sensory overload. Their sales staff really know their stuff and make helpful recommendations. They also accurately predict how long special orders will take to come in. Pricewise they are probably a little higher than competitors in the outlying ‘burbs but the Cambie & 7^th location with free parking makes shopping here irresistable.

Not only were they able to help me find something that I couldn’t find anywhere else, the people there are friendly and the selection is wonderful.
If you need someone to help with the install they have people and know people who have people. For as long as I can remember, they’ve been here for years. Parking is convenient in the back and the prices can be competitive.
Vicki was one such individual at Robinson who was able to help me finding the right bathroom fixture that I needed.

The only place in town where looking up doesn’t label you as a dreamer with your head in the clouds. And the only place in town to give me a crick in my neck for the same reason. How I didn’t bump into many a look-​e-​loo while searching for the perfect illumination is beyond me.
These lighting experts are no joke. After a few moments of explaining my apartment, the sales person was nodding, she’d heard my story before. (The dilemma? Oh, yeah, no ceiling fixture for a light in the bedroom, and one plug that connects to the light switch. Bravo builders in the 1980’s bravo!)
Within a few minutes I had everything I needed, including lightbulbs, but truth be told, I could stay all day fantasizing about glorious ceiling and floor space to fill with beautiful bulbs — all shapes, sizes, price points and tastes.
Next time I’ll venture into the bathroom part of the store, I was scared I’d be taking a sledgehammer to my tub if I fancied a peek.
PS. There’s free parking and an entrance around the back!

You light up my life…
Our kitchen design suggested we go here after I mentioned that we’d seen some lighting at Home Depot. He said that HD’s lights often require special, expensive light bulbs and that we’d probably find something at Robinson that would only be a bit more expensive. This store is huge and they have lighting from $ 50 to $ 18,000 and probably more expensive too. The selection is wide and the staff were helpful. It was busy today so they took our name and there’s comfortable seating while you wait for a rep to come get you. We were going for something quite simple and modern but there were some black chandeliers to die for! There’s a 20% off sale right now and you get 7 days to return your purchase if you get it home and realise it’s just not right.
