Reel Mac And Cheese

Gross. Sticky sauce, over cooked pasta and a ton of nutmeg, I couldn’t get that nasty taste out of my mouth for hours.
Add to the crappy taste, the crappy service…(I had to repeat my order «Mac and cheese with bacon» 3 times… still got back to work with Mac and cheese with onions, bacon and broccoli) you’ve got yourself what is possibly the worst food truck in town!
I originally posted a review on FB. The guy (girl?) had the audacity to tell me I ruined his day and that because of my review he would have to shut down the page.
Save your money, this mac&cheese isn’t worth 9 cents never mind 9 bucks!

I had their Jurassic (pulled pork) Mac and Cheese at the PNE. It would be an understatement to say I was disappointed: it was underwhelming. I could taste the grittiness that I usually associate with cheap Mac and cheese, and the amount of pulled pork in the box was laughable. On top of that, it was $ 14! I would even cringe at paying $ 8 for something like that. Do not recommend.

Went to this food truck at the shipyards night market in north vancouver. With a large variety of food trucks to choose from you want to make the right choice. Unfortunately this one fell flat. Macaroni was soggy and over cooked. The sauce was watery and bland (I had The Main Event). There was nothing gourmet about it. I would have rather had Kraft Mac and cheese. For $ 10 it was a rip off

We just went to this truck while at the Grey Cup festivities near Jack Poole Plaza. They have a smaller menu because of being at the event.
Almost didn’t go as no one around me had much good to say about it. Gave it a chance though. I got the spicy Some Like it Hot and my wife got the Green Mile. They were both pretty decent. Not the best, not the worst.
I don’t believe they have much for quality control in their prep. One of them had an onion peel in it, and the other had 2 banana pepper stems in it. Not nice to bight into.
To sum it up. the flare of this truck is cute, but the quality just isn’t worth it. Not worth the price, for sure.

Dissapointing to say the least. I should point out though that i have only tried the classic mac and cheese which at $ 7.00 for the basic and 2.00 to add bacon was a little on the pricey side for something in a box, with no descernable cheese .as in gooey crust or sauce that in the end was about as exciting as a basic kraft dinner. Perhaps it was an off day? Im willing to give them the benefit of the doubt because i have a hard time believing this could be the cornerstone of their business.

There is nothing that stands out or «wows» me in terms of this mac and cheese. It tastes like any others mac and cheese that I’ve tried, however, what they do have going for them is that they cater to a tradition of comfort food. You’re never too old for mac and cheese. Sometimes we all need a little basic familiar love to get us through the day. I’ve had better more gourmet mac and cheese but this has served it’s purpose for me at past events.

Ah, comfort food at its finest. Wind down and revel in its gooey, cheesy goodness. I ordered The Main Event. It was topped with fried onions, which were a nice contrast to the mushiness of the mac and cheese. The notion that the fried onions were the «main event» of the dish was perpetuated once I finished the fried onion. Sans onion, the flavours began to fall flat.

I’ve been quietly anticipating trying this truck out! I love me some Mac and Cheese.
I had the Green Mile but added (Kevin) Bacon. It was decent. The key to a good Mac and Cheese is the richness of the sauce. I want to take a bite and have cheese sauce oozing and me feeling like i know I’ll have to do 30 mins extra cardio for eating this but it will be worth it! I will still have to do extra cardio but that’s mostly to burn off the carbs and I am not thinking it was worth it.
But bacon makes everything better! And props for a cute marketing scheme!

I tried Reel Mac & Cheese for the first time at the Vancouver Food Truck Festival and it was a collosal disappointment. Here are some comments:
Good — really cute truck graphics, simple menu options (4 mac & cheeses with options for 3 toppings)
So-​so — pricing ranges from $ 7 – 8 for the base and $ 2 for additional toppings
Bad — taste and overall presentation
I was hoping for some super creamy comfort food and instead received some over-​boiled macaroni with a flour/​milk sauce that had very little cheese flavour. I purchased «the main event» which is supposed to have a blend of 5 cheeses and sadly, it did not live up to it’s description. Furthermore, I was not given a choice of having «crispy» or «carmalized» onions, as listed on the menu.
If you visit the Reel Mac & Cheese website (
) you’ll note they list 7 different offerings. While they didn’t have the entire selection available at the Food Truck Fest my sampling of their «main event» was enough to turn me off this cart forever.
Note that for an additional $ 2 you can get a few pieces of hotdog. And when I say hotdog, I am referring to the smallest, cheapest ones you buy by the dozen in the supermarket. For your $ 2 you’ll get maybe ½ of a hotdog.
Sadly Reel Mac & Cheese is a total fail. You’ll walk away at least $ 7 poorer, and your taste buds will not feel at all satisified.

Their take on a classic mac and cheese was really the best sample off their menu. It was not TOO heavy, but the sauce perfectly covered all the noodles, a good mix of cheese went into it and it the mixture essentially tastes like a whole lot of love.

I tried the Run Fat Boy Run deep fried mac and cheese balls. For $ 7 you get 3 balls larger than a golf ball, smaller than a tennis ball. Maybe it was a fluke, but the balls were cool on the inside. Not lukewarm — actually cool. There was potential in the fried outer part, but this was ruined by too much cool mac and cheese.
If you buy this, I recommend you immediately cut one open NEATLY and check the interior. If it’s cold, send the order back. If you cut it neatly, they might be able to re-​fry that one ball (and that’s a BIG maybe).
The interior of the mac and cheese ball wasn’t tasty, but I’m guessing that the cold had something to do with it. Normally I’d go 1-​star here, but since it might have been a fluke, I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt.
