Rebellious Tomato Gourmet Pizza

As a tourist in Vancouver looking for delivery to my hotel, I decided to choose the Rebellious Tomato for dinner one night. I should have known from the get-​go that it was a bad idea to order from here, when the person on the phone wouldn’t take the Four Seasons Hotel as a delivery location and insisted on an exact address, even though I did not have it off hand. She waited while I Googled it for her…
The food arrived in the time they had estimated (45 mins). Upon delivery, I asked if they had included cutlery for my salad and the delivery guy said no, they don’t do that. I paid him and he left. I followed him to the elevator and he made a joke about me needing to go downstairs too… YES! To get some cutlery so I can eat my dinner that you just delivered! So funny!
Anyway, back in the room I discovered a pizza that was okay, but fairly dry and too salty. My Greek Salad was the real kicker… somehow, instead of cucumbers, the salad included zucchini. Yuck! That does not belong in a Greek salad. On top of that, the salad was loaded with whole black olives in addition to sliced green olives. Again… don’t usually see green olives in a Greek salad.
I suppose this is my own fault since about a year ago I vowed that Famoso was my go-​to pizza place, and had been burned too many times by other take-​out places… Never again, Rebellious Tomato… never again!

Disappointed. Pizza tasted like frozen pizza quality. Ordered online for delivery. Said it would be 35 mins wait. 50 mins later. They added another hour to the delivery time! I called them and asked them about our order. She left me hanging. Called back and another guy answered. Said it would be another 40 mins but will add another pizza for the delay. They arrived another hour later. Lasagna was over baked. Pizza tasted like frozen pizza, the base was thin, hard and chewy. Worse pizza experience. Even fresh slice is much better. Don’t know about the other branches but stay away from this one.

Super friendly people running the place, and great topping/​combo options. The pizza itself wasn’t anything too amazing though. For instance, we got the thai chicken curry and I would have liked the flavors to be a bit stronger and more cheese. Either way, it’s decent pizza at a convenient place and really nice folks!

I kept getting flyers through my door about this place and they made it seem really good. The actual experience is more of the ‘okay’ variety however.
The slices looked dry and as if they’d been sitting for a week which was odd because this was a busy Saturday afternoon on Denman with hundreds of people milling around outside. Possibly this because the store looks dark and closed from the outside.
Because of the state of the slices, I decided to order a entire, small, ‘Mediterranean’ pizza, fresh, so as to see them at their best. What I got was tasty and mostly satisfying but it was poorly cut and very wet in the middle making it a messy experience overall. If I had to think of two words to describe the pizza and the place, ‘sloppy’ and ‘careless’ come to mind.
As to the details of the pizza, the main ingredient I was looking for, (sun dried tomatoes), appeared to be completely absent. It’s possible they were part of the sauce, but if so, they probably shouldn’t have been listed as a topping. The mushrooms were of the ‘dry, shredded, and prepared yesterday’ variety. Again, a diligent search was necessary to ascertain if they were even present on the pizza.
Finally, this pizza was ‘spicy.’ Not overly so, but still. A Mediterranean pizza should be savoury, perhaps even salty, but definitely not spicy. I get the feeling that they just use a generic tomato sauce for all the pizzas with some shredded sun dried tomatoes in it and a lot of hot sauce.
Kind of ‘meh’ overall.

My boyfriend and I randomly stopped in today after a long bike ride. We were pleasantly surprised by the selection — lots of vegetarian options to choose from! I got a small 10″ Thai curry pizza (vegetarian) for $ 10, and he got pesto chicken, which was the special of the day (large for $ 15).
The Thai curry was delicious. It was spicy, had tons of vegetables, and the crust was perfect — thin (but not too thin) and crispy. It just might be my new favourite pizza in Vancouver! My boyfriend also really enjoyed his pizza.
I wouldn’t recommend getting pizza-​by-​the-​slice, because even on a busy Sunday, they didn’t get much foot traffic and I don’t know how long those slices were sitting there for. But the pizza we ordered off the menu was great. I would definitely come here again. And I’d probably make a special trip over to Denman St. the next time I’m downtown just to have their pizza again.

Terrible by the slice. The pizzas have too many ingredients and sit too long before being reheated and served. Especially at almost $ 4 a slice. I don’t know what’s going on here. Maybe if I ordered a whole pizza and got it fresh it would be good. The slice was discouraging though.
On the flip side it is nice in there and the staff is friendly. There are also no other by the slice pizza places nearby so it’s lucky that this exists I guess.

I didn’t notice the pizza was organic, as stated in the previous review. I’m pretty sure it’s not, although there is a shop on the same street offering organic pizzas. The pizza here is probably made with produce you would find in Superstore or Costo… It’s not artisian or specialty pizza and it isn’t advertised as such. That being said, I enjoy the pizza’s thin crust and I’d much rather eat here than Dominos, Pizzahut etc. The food tastes better here, and I like small businesses.

What better way to enjoy a pizza when it’s healthy and organic? They use the organic ingredients, and the slice wasn’t oily on the paper plate that it was served on – good sign.
Tried the margerita, and enjoyed the thiin crust, and fresh basil, not the powder type like those other ones…
A bit tough to find parking, imagine it’s more for the walk-​ins but they also offer delivery…
They do cut their pizzas now, apparently before it was to retain the heat…
You can also order baked lasagnas, canneloni, gelato too… so stay tuned for my review for their lasagna, that’s my weakness…

Terrible delivery service and overpriced. Stay away.

First off, CUT YOUR DAMN PIZZA!
Even as a greasy teenager working in a cheap little pizza nook, we still managed to reach a bare minimum goal of slicing our pizzas. Kinda makes it easier for the whole *eating* part of ordering a pizza.
I almost cut my leg open slicing the damn thing! (The box was on my lap and the knife went through the cardboard. Scary stuff kids!)
The crust tasted chewy and terrible– even for whole wheat!
Oh Rebellious Tomato. Your flyer was so cute. What a shame.

I was walking home yesterday past the location on Denman Street and they were handing out free samples of what turned out to be their margherita pizza and the slice was SO good that I decided to order a whole pizza. When I tasted it, I was HUGELY disappointed with it. The toppings were non-​existent, and it was completely covered with dried basil. Yes, I know this is one of the ingredients, but that was all I could taste. It was awful. Shouldn’t a place that claims to be organic be using fresh basil? And the crust was horrible. Avoid this place at all cost. I only gave it 1 star because there was nothing less than that
