READ is a bookstore specializing in contemporary art publications. READ is located within the Charles H. Scott Gallery at Emily Carr University. The store stocks an array of artists’ books, monographs, exhibition catalogues, critical theory, artists’ editions, and magazines. Public book launches, readings, residencies, and parties are organized by the store on a regular basis.

Established in 1999.
READ was started in 1999 as an ongoing public program of the Charles H. Scott Gallery. READ’s primary goal is to promote artists’ publishing as an artistic practice. It is the book store for Emily Carr University of Art + Design and supports the courses and programs of the school.
