This Purdy’s is a bit out of my way for me, however, when I’m in the area I’m satisfied even though this is a small store. They carry my favorite sugar free dark chocolate mint bars which are a guilt free treat for me when I need that chocolate hit. The customer service has been hit and miss with me. Nothing too negative but I can always tell when someone has had a long day.

We stopped by here to get some chocolates; their pink himalayan sea salt caramel was listed as «the best». It’s very good, but a bit too runny for my tastes. This was a great spot to stock up on souvenirs, though chocolates in summertime didn’t work too well in transport…

Ahhhh purdy’s mmmm! such good chocolate, the right balance of fine gourmet taste and a sugar fix: D I went in here mid afternoon and although there were two people working there they both had their hands full with one customer who I think had mad a n order for something. I waited about 6 – 10 minutes which I had no problem with but when I was ordering the woman offered me a free chocolate in the store because I had to wait, it was under 10 mins for sure that i was waiting so I thought that was really nice :) I asked for the caramel drizzle square chocolate(dont know the exact name: S) mmm but that one is sure a favorite! I also would probably do crazy things for the amazing tiger butter they have. I love all their peanut butter chocolates including the Mayan ones. I dont know any other names of the chocolates off by heart but I honestly feel whatever your preference you won’t be disappointed at purdy’s! And if you happen to be at this location you might even get a free treat if there’s a wait ;) :p I mean is there really anything better than free chocolate?!

Chocolate eggs and caramel bites and peanut brittle — oh my! Yes, these were the choices that I was trying to decide on for Easter treats and I couldn’t choose so I bought them all. Purdy’s is a must if you’re a loyal Vancouverite. This store just happens to be in my neighbourhood so I really get to be local. Did you know that in 2008 Purdy’s Chocolates was named #1 in the Top 100 Woman Owned Businesses by Business in Vancouver Magazine? Yep. I thought that was pretty awesome. Another interesting fact? In 2007 Purdy’s Chocolates was inducted into the Business Hall of Fame by Vancouver Board of Trade. The Vancouver Board of Trade’s Business Hall of Fame recognizes the important contributions made to Greater Vancouver by organizations active in B.C. for more than 100 years. Purdy’s Chocolates was inducted into the Hall of Fame the same year the company turned 100 years old. Now that’s some pedigree! Ok. So back to the treats. If you like peanut brittle treat yourself to theirs. It’s delicious crunchy sweet peanuty goodness. The caramel bites are my favourite because I love chewy caramel and chocolate. The bag of pretty foil wrapped eggs were a favourite with my kids. Despite being teenagers now they love the nostalgia of unwrapping the foil, but they appreciate the quality of the chocolate in the Purdy’s version. The staff are always sweet, pun intended, and you can even just treat yourself to one choice delectable goody if you don’t want to spend a lot or blow your calorie intake. If you’re going to indulge, support a local tradition and treat yourself here.

As a Vancouver institution, I can’t think of very many Friday afternoons from my high school days that didn’t include one of Purdy’s Original Ice Cream bars with white chocolate as opposed to the traditional dark Belgium one. I remember the necessary skill it took to maneuver those last little bites without having the bottom nut bits flake off. Even in the dead of winter, we’d make the trek here for a sampling of their seasonal delights and chocolate-y staples. Whether unusually molded into the shape of a peacock or their English toffee, Purdy’s is always delicious.
