Pub 340

Cool pub just for the pinball machines but no menus for drinks so basically order whatever comes to mind!

Inside Pub 340 there is a separate room which houses 11 pinball machines and 1 arcade game. Games are very well maintained. As this is inside a bar, it’s 19 and over only. Beers are cheap, staff are wonderful and food is great! This is one of only a few good dive bars left in the city!

I remember how amazing this place used to be to see live punk shows. Then it turned into dance parties, and then it had a period of sucking hard. But now it’s a great place to see live local rock acts. It’s pretty exhilarating actually! Steve Stone is really fun to watch. There’s a friendly Cheers vibe to this place now. Not Cheers the actual restaurant, but the old show. Duh right.
Though the taps made me really sick one time. Please change your taps if you’re reading this! If you have, disregard. But please consider cleaning your taps.
Oh yeah, your bathrooms haven’t changed in like forty years, you might want to remodel them. They’re effing disgusting. I see critters.

Probably the most inviting ‘dive’ bar downtown. I’ve been coming here for over a year, and the place is just right. Cheap drinks, the food is really good, and the staff are all very friendly and down to earth people. Lots of people come here for the pinball machines, there’s about 11 of them, classics too! I have brought several friends here, everyone loves it! Lots of regulars here. Super chill vibe, and less douchbaggery than the cambie down the street.

Yes, we know it’s a dive bar. Stop being so aghast. With the sad gentrification of the DTES, it should be celebrated as such. If you don’t like that, you are free to go to Granville street.
The drinks are super cheap at $ 3.50 a pint, which is almost half price of anywhere else you’d go to. The food is basic comfort pub food without trying to be pretentious, and the lower than average prices combined with the larger than usual portions make it a standout! The Friday special is a FULL prime rib dinner for only $ 9.95! You’d pay at least 4 times the amount at The Keg!
The crowd is mainly regulars who are very well looked after by the management and staff, many on a first name basis and with their drink poured for them before they sit at their favourite seats.
With different nights for karaōke, open jam, and open mic, it is clearly not the place you’d want to bring someone on a first date. But if you bring someone here and they enjoy it, they are definitely a keeper.

This is the dive bar that time has tried to kill over and over. Rumours that the owners have tried to sell the place have been unsubstantiated, removing the bands and music has done nothing to deter the enthusiasm some regulars have for the bar, and in fact driven new types of entertainment there. So many amazing pinball machines, fun karaōke, great seating, and loud, sometimes cheesy, metal, make this a favorite dive bar.
Cash only, but you won’t need much of it. Don’t get too woozy

This is a great place in the day time for a quiet drink with nice people, night time is a little more lively with a younger crowd. The staff are VERY lovely! Drinks are the cheapest in town, on top of being the first pub in the city to open. THIS IS NOT A RACIST ESTABLISHMENT!!! Dispite what one person has mentioned in a previous review. I have worked there on and off, and everyone is welcome (obviously! The staff if multi-​racial) unless you are violent, or a trouble maker. It really reminds me of Cheers with it’s faithful regulars. Amazing management — very helpful if you have any issues at all, which I’m sure you won’t. Everyone has remained SO freindly over the years.

I was looking for a place to host my boyfriend’s 30^th birthday so I called Sharon at 340. We worked out the details and she offered to bring in her karaōke host for 3 hours on a Saturday night. (She’s usually just there some weeknights).
It could not have been better! We brought in a big group and totally dominated the stage! (I think the woman hosting was playing favourites. Much appreciated!) The bartender was a sweetheart, drinks were cheap, any song we wanted was available and Sharon even decorated with balloons and streamers and reserved a bunch of tables for us.
The crowd was a lot younger and… more fresh faced than I remember them being a few years ago but honestly, I barely noticed them there at all. SO much fun!
Definitely recommend checking 340 if you’re planning a party!

The place is a great place to drink a jug for cheap and hang with friends without losing your shirt. I got treated badly one night but the GM apologized to me and now they close on time instead of 5 minutes before the law says they have to. It’s a drinking bar and one that is worth visiting for an affordable night downtown. Open late too.

Ahhh. another night of Tuesday karaōke means another night at a dive bar in the DTES. Right on. I should really tell people that to me karaōke = PARTY TIME. FYI, the kitchen here closes at 7pm but u can bring in food. I liked the Demolition Man Pin Ball but I did not play. Too much fun doing Fireball shooters and making a fool of myself on stage. Not once but twice… gee whiz, IDK if singing lessons would help but you can always count on me to rock out on stage. Unlike some of my friends who really can sing! Then, to cap of the evening the bartender came up and did a really great rap. Actually, there was a couple good rappers there that night. All in all, super fun time!!!

I’ve been here twice, and both experiences have been very different.
The first time was when I heard that this place is excellent for those who couldn’t get into The Cambie.
It was the scariest moment of my life.
It was quiet and dark, almost empty, and people who filled in here and there turned around to see us («THERE ARE YOUNG PEOPLE HERE?!»). There were more older audience, and it just lacked the party ambience we were hoping for.
Then when I came back the second time (last night), it was bumping! Sure, there were some old ppl there, but there seemed to be people of early 20s like us there too. Their cheapest beer pitcher for $ 10.50 sucked, but eh, it’s cheap. They even had a DJ and a dance floor!
There were some interesting people last night… from angry lesbians on skateboards to couples heavily PDA-​ing, to a drunk guy with his pants down while he was confronting his friend. There was also a group of girls who were giving each other lap dances, which was disturbing to see. Tonight was very strange but very entertaining.
I guess one night it’s gonna be great, another night, not so much. Hit and miss!

Positive rating strictly pertaining to pinball.

Rock and roll dive bar. the regular crowd around happy hour is a bit older but friendly. Late night it really depends on who takes the stage. We stopped by several times while in Vancouver and liked it’s low key laid back vibe. Nice spot for a cold beer after visiting the New Amsterdam Café next door. Cheap drinks too!

Maybe one of the best dive bars left in Vancouver, and now with a pinball experience which is located in a seperate room. You might have to deal with Keno lifers glaring at you but whatever. Also one of the best bartenders in the city works here, she is nice, attentive, and helpful, who would have thought you’d have to go to one of the dingiest bars in town to find her.

Well, this is a bit difficult.
We have been here once 2012.
First of all: The drinks are crazy cheap. $ 3,50 for the cheapest pint is just awesome.
The atmosphere is a typical, dark, rocker bar. Thats what I would say.
We came in around 7pm, drunken guys around, big girls in small tops :-D. All what you expect from a dark rocker bar :-D.
The Barkeeper is very nice and the music is good.
I was surprised to hear Tool and some classic rock.
I have to say I don’t like the style the bar is looking but the music and especially the prizes are very good!
Oh yeah by the way: When we have been here they only accepted cash!

I remember when this place was called «the Sound» or something like that, and it was decorated with the most horrific/​ugly fake plants, mannequins, and just crap everywhere. It was possibly the most heinous looking club I had ever been into and I was completely dumb-​founded that college kids and whatnot would come in for cheap eats and drinks. Fast forward ten years or so…
The place is still a dump., just with less shitty decorations. They put a small one foot tall stage at the back, so they can have local metal/​punk rock bands play. This place is less poor students or hostel attendees (from the Cambie a door down) and more alternative, rock n roll, alcoholic hangout. There was a very odd mix of people in here when I was here last for a friend’s birthday party. It was like a bunch of crazy rock n roll bitches (my posse) some alt/​punks on the other side of the room, and then random dudes, who kept trying to make small talk with the ladies — who I sensed were a wee bit creeped out.
I don’t mind the creeps, probably because I am one. Give me a few drinks and I’ll stagger around mumbling to hot chicks too, it’s kind of par for the course at dive bars. Unfortunately I had just gotten back from my week-​long bender in L.A. so I was drinking gingerale — hard core I know. The server dude at the bar was super nice, and said I could have it on the house for being a designated driver… which I totally was… *cough cough*
so I made sure to give him a decent tip as a thanks.
I think I would like to try this place again on a night when I AM drinking, as I think it could be one of those places that yo ucome home with stories about, and I don’t mean black eyes and paddywagon stories.

Well this is for sure a dive bar. The good news is that they have real cheap drink prices.

Cheap drinks and lots o space! Only been here once but it seems like a place that rarely gets skin-​to-​skin full, which is an A+ in my books.
People are super friendly– if they have a question, they’ll just come right up to you and ask… as opposed to staring at you from across the room with a shiny glint in their eye, which happens a lot. I’m surprised not more people come here especially when their neighbor (The Cambie) always has a freakishly long line up.
So Cambie rejects, hit this place up! It may be kinda dead inside but as long as you have friends, it’ll be a good time.

The Cambie denied us, on account of last call, which could only lead to stickier things — oh Pub 340.
The scene — long haired, skinny dudes screaming into microphones (my ears continue to ring), 1994 all over again — hey, is that plaid? And me, long floral dress — high heeled sandals, and one too many bevvies in!
I lasted ½ a pint and then I had to leave… why? Because I had to use the loo and could not bring myself near it here.
But, Pub 340 gets my 3 stars because not one person batted an eye at my fancy pants. I felt accepted and ignored. Perfect! But I think they might want to change their name to 1994!

Okay, so I have a few friends in bands and playing Pub 340 is pretty much de rigeur for any up and coming Vancouver band. Well, the «up» part is up for debate depending on the artists or «artists» involved. In any case, I think I’ve been here enough to be like… um…what would I be like? Well, let’s just say sometimes I leave confused by what I just saw, occasionally drenched in sweat, but almost always drunk as fuck. Something about the place just induces poor drinking habits.
So the last show I saw, it was kind of awkward… let me explain. So my friend was playing a hip-​hop show, and he was doin’ his thing and it was all well and good until this guy started stripping and gyrating his junk hither and thither*. Anyways, a fight broke out between this dude and some aggro-​monkeys and the night just kinda got more tense from there. This night was the exception though, folks. Most of the time it’s alright. Really.
