Project Space

In a time not so far away lived a girl who dreamed in magazines. She thumbed through National Geographics, cut out pieces from the pages of British Vogue, attempted to understand the cartoons of The New Yorker and kept stacks of Sassys tucked away in her closet for safe-​keeping. Like any good teenager of the 90s, I grew up in a decade that exploded in indie zines.
Not much has changed over the years, I still cut up, thumb through, stash away, and have yet to laugh out loud at any New Yorker cartoon — I still adore magazines. The permanence of paper provides me with immense pleasure and there is a certain intimacy to the glossy pages of this particular breed of reading material.
Enter Project Space.
Teetering that fine line between bookstore and art gallery, this studio space encompasses all that is good about independent magazine culture. Volunteer-​run, this shop is more than just a magazine-​seller, more than just an art space; it’s meant to be a space for those in the Vancouver art community to share ideas on and love for physical objects in a digital world.
