DO NOT take your car here if you value honesty.
I had them do an inspection for me and they said they were experts on Land Rovers. They said that my key fob needed a new battery. But they key fob charges with the engine and the casing does not open as per design.
They said a lot of other things that were just a bunch of rubbish. This guy is not trustworthy and I would stay clear.

My partner and I used Bernie Pawlik’s shop before to ensure our car was safe. We were happy with his service and he appeared honest and upfront with the quotes for the work.
I recently went to Pawlik’s for an oil change. I let him know we would be selling the car shortly, as my partner no longer was living in Vancouver (it is his car). Also that we wanted to limit the amount of money we were putting into it as it was not worth much to sell.
He did the oil change, and suggested that he was concerned about the brakes again (a previous brake check was done 6 months earlier) and that he would like to do a brake check.
He alerted me that one of the brakes was lower and with only about 5% left. He gave me a quote to do this one set of the brakes, a brake flush, and service the others. This came to $ 1300.
I mentioned again that my parter was no longer living here, and now told him why (he had recently lost his father unexpectedly) and that we were going to sell the car shortly (I did not tell him why, but hinted that we needed these resources to cover other expenses).
He said he would call me back with another quote, which he did promptly and professionally, where he said the servicing of the other brakes could be eliminated as well as the brake flush. The 2 brakes would need to be done for safety and he could do these for $ 750.
I hesitated and thought about it, that safety is more important than money, and booked the appointment to have them done. However, I had a niggle as this amount of money was a big stretch as I didn’t have it. I spoke with a few people about it who had recently had all their brakes done in Vancouver and the price and found out that this price might be quite high.
I contacted another mechanic shop and let them know that I needed 2 brakes done, my current situation and what would the cost be. They have quoted me at $ 330, a similiar price that I was told by others. I am very surprised to find this out and quite disappointed.
I have never done a Unilocal review before, but what I learnt from this situation is that I suggest if you are considering using this shop you may want to do your homework… you may have some extra food money this month.

I did a quick Unilocal search and found these guys. The person whom answered the phone was super polite and friendly.
The Ford Escape was squeaking (breaks) so these guys checked it out for me.
I was able to drop it off before work and even though they were 8 blocks away from the Marine Drive Skytrain station. They were kind enough to offer me a ride but opted out as I needed to shake my legs and wake up the body before an 8 hour desk shift. The thought went a long way.
Sadly they do not do body work, however, was recommended a place by them for some body work to be done.
I am a huge stickler for customer service and out of all the body shops that I’ve had to deal with, the customer service on this blew me away from the minute I picked up the phone which is a huge deal for me.
The first step was an assesment which was around $ 80 with tax. They did rotate the tires for me.
The good news is that nothing is wrong with my breaks. In fact they told me that it was almost new (I only drive it for an hour a week and bus most places).
I still needed to take it in for my own piece of mine, therefore, for that it was money well spent knowing that there was nothing too extreme with it.

The service here is SO refreshing! Bernie was very friendly and attentive. At the end he went over with a checklist report, explaining everything. They offer coffee and water at reception. And they kindly let me take a courtesy car on my busy work schedule! I’d come back again.

Pawlik Automotive is the best in the city. We bring all our cars here. I’ve been too many crooks before, and was looking all over for a honest and reliable michanic. Thankfully I have found one in Bernie Pawlik.
I will never go anywhere else. They are super easy to deal with, their prices are reasonable and customer service will blow you away.
If you are tired like me of being ripped off by shady michanic’s bring your cars here you will notbe disappointed. Bernie is a stand up guy. He is very professional and informative.

I agree with all the comments, but not when it comes to the bill, dont expect it to be cheaper then the dealership.

Bernie is the best in town! This is the type of shop everyone searches for. Honest, really honest! Reliable, quality work, impeccable service, and really fair prices.

The best auto repair shop in the city. Great customer service — everyone on the team is knowledgable and friendly. They go out of their way to answer all questions and go the extra mile. You can trust these guys — very honest and take your business seriously. Great job diagnosing and fixing problems on high end cars. Even vaccum and clean before returning! Also have a courtesy car if you can’t be without wheels for the day. Wish they were a little closer to downtown or east van but worth going to south van.

I’ve had a great experience with Pawlik Automotives so far. The staff have always been very nice (and even helped play with my kids and help them into the car.)
I’ve only been with them for about a year but have had no problems with their work or their prices. I find them very upfront and detailed with what they are going to do and they are very reliable and I’d definitely trust Bernie and his team with my car.

I took my son’s car to Pawlik Automotive and I was very pleased with the service and even more at the cost. They did a basic inspection as requested and aside from fluid levels etc. they found that the tires were way over-​inflated. I would not hesitate to send anyone to this shop. They were honest, prompt and courteous, hard to find qualities.

While Bernie and his crew are generally competent mechanics and some of the services provided were done well. A major overhaul that they did on my engine was not done well. In hindsight I feel that the engine job should have been taken to an specialty engine shop instead of Pawlik. It is because of the engine job failure (1000km after the warranty period). That I have give them a 2 star instead of a 4 star.
I found service is good if you book way ahead. It is hard to drop-​in with your car to get looked at immediate problem. As he is rightfully busy servicing other clients. Though he will take 5 –10 mins to take a quick look at a problem you having. Or give you and honest quick evaluation. But you may not be able to get it in for a proper repair for several days.
I found the other repairs/​costs aside from the engine overhaul that he did I had no problem with.
