Mom was a regular here. She found some plastic junk in her leftovers after at home. It would be pretty bad if a child had eaten that. The place is filthy. The bathroom stinks to high heaven.

food is hit and miss. service sucks ass. nothing like getting your bill before your order is placed in the kitchen. atmosphere, if you like the smell of grease and moth ball this is your spot. also you get the free entertainment of the waitresses screaming across the restaurant at each other to have a conversation. and being Chinese myself i can understand some things. like when they talk about me after i order or the other customer as they arrive .and the best is the guy who runs the tire shop beside on lok that frequents the place everyday at lunch and also works the till and takes orders and deals with customers with his filthy greasy hands .this place should be reviewed by bc food inspection agency. almost shit my pants 30 min after eating here to much MSG. only thing this place can get credit for is there wonton and curry beef brisket otherwise go to jame‘s restaurant 6 blocks east or in chinatown a hidden gem gain wah on keefer st

This place is very inconsistent there are times when I go there in the hot and sour soup is amazing and then other times I go there and it’s greasy and old the same goes for the war wonton soup I went there and it was delicious and fresh and then the other day I went there and it seemed like the broth was way more brown than I’ve ever seen it and veggies were wilted. I don’t know if it’s just the time of day that I’m going or what the differences but I’m always so confused by it because it’s kind of a crapshoot There are certain waitresses that I do really like because they’re nice and friendly when I go there and yet again there are times when I go there and it’s a surly lady. The prices are very cheap for the specials but average for every other Dish. I have to say though they’re in the house made wontons are delicious and they’re consistently good considering it is called a wonton house that make sense Another big perk is that this place is open really late

Some friends of mine love going to this place because it’s cheap and quick and filling. They also warned me that it’s dirty and the service is poor. That is part of the charm, apparently :) The food, as advertised, was cheap, very quick, and adequate. When you want to get stuffed on greasy spoon Chinese food, this is a good place to go. On the other hand, I would not recommend this place for anyone who doesn’t have patience or has a quick temper. One time, when the waitress poured my tea(into a crappy plastic cup), she poured way too fast and splashed some on my hand. She didn’t even notice! Fortunately, the tea was just ‘warm’ and I wasn’t burnt. Getting help from the waitstaff means pretty much fighting with them, and it certainly feels like you are more of a trouble to them than anything else. In the end, it’s a decent place to go with a group of friends when you just want it cheap and easy. I wouldn’t go myself, or take my girlfriend there, but don’t mind going with friends. Just don’t expect service with a smile.

I went back to On-Lok after 15 years to purpose of introducing the restaurant to wife and kids. Things did not go as planned due to various reasons. I had great memory this restaurant been clean, large portions with authentic taste. The place has not change a bit and looks the same. Heating wastnt working at far back section of the restaurant so we have to wait. My kids have travelled all over the world including Asia however, smell of the restaurant is not something my kids were ready to embrace. So, while waiting for the food to arrive my 2nd son stated to though-out and want to leave the place immediately, the same request followed my 1st son. At the end both kids did not eat anything and decided to wait in the car. The staff was very helpful specially the cashier lady to accommodate our needs. Chicken fried rice: Large portion. Actual chicken wasnt cooked properly including egg york. Spicy Chicken Currey: Very salty. We have request take it back. Shrimp Fried Rice: Large portion with lots of shrimps. Same problem as not properly cook egg york. Price: Quite reasonable and I would say average market price. Quality of the food has gone down drastically compared 15 years ago.

We came here for late night on a saturday night. There was only one other guy and then random people started coming in as well. The place is huge and I imagine it gets pretty busy during the day? This place looks pretty ghetto like in the 80’s and it definitely need some renos done but then that would drive the price up on the menu. A bowl of wonton noodles is only 4.95 $ which is considered to be pretty cheap nowadays. We had the late night menu, I noticed that the portions are smaller than the other restaurants, taste and quality is ok. Alcohol — beer available. Service was not bad considering it wasn’t busy that night. Free parking available.

I have come here for many years putting aside some unsavory details. I generally order the same items when I go. I personally love the won ton soup, Beef & Broccoli, Diced chicken w. Cashew nut. Oh, and the Chili Oil, but the ones that actually have some chillis in it and not just oil. My biggest issue here is staff friendliness. Even after 20+ years of coming here, and some of the same staff still working there. They act as if they have never seen you before. No smiles, hellos or anything. Only on occasion, has a staff member ever uttered a nicety. When the food is delivered to your table it is placed at the furthest opposite corner of the table from where you are sitting. Whats up with that? The place is pretty greasy, floors seem slippery. Bathroom gives off the smell of Moth Balls and is in desperate need of a clean up. I have some friends that just wont go there, but I will return for my favorite dishes despite my issues. But a far cry from Sawato in Toronto where the staff are very friendly with happy greetings upon entering, even if it is your first time.

Meals are always good, can’t beat the price. The best deal of the day is on the board when you walk in … On the right hand side I wish the bathrooms were cleaner … More often than not they turned off the hot water in the bathrooms making it difficult to wash my hands properly. Otherwise a good meal. On the plus side the staff are always friendly

Got sick, threw up in the middle of the night after eating here. I think the meat was bad. Food was mediocre. They served some of the dishes too hot so it scalded the skin inside our mouth. Service was ok.

Old place, but good food and prices. Singapore noodle is a great curry dish. Wor Wonton is also really great. After 9pm menu is great if you’re drunk :) I’ve been there a fair bit and get really good service.

So, this is our second stop on our East Van visit for the weekend. I have been coming here since I was a kid and it really has not changed much decorwise. The food however has gotten worse. I had a bad experience the last time I was here but I was giving Ok Lok another chance based on our history. Well, the food just didn’t taste fresh. The fried rice was overly salty and seemed like it had been double cooked or something. The sweet and sour pork was too fatty and the place just seemed grimy. The staff are never very friendly and when I mentioned a problem with the food they didn’t care. They didn’t do anything to please us or remake a dish, nothing. Just rudeness really. So we paid, left and will not return. I am still giving them a 3star because I am in hopes they will improve and the duck dish was yummy. but that’s all. Unfortunately, I don’t think I will be giving this place anymore visits.

Divey and I love it. One of the best Chinese places in Vancouver. Reminds me when I was a kid and my parents would take me to the town’s Chinese Restaurant. I would definitely go back, portions are large and it’s truly a Canadian/Chinese experience.

Two starts might be a bit generous. Some of the other food being served looked edible. Ours was not. Brown snot on crunchy noodles. No thanks. We were looking for something reminiscent, though slightly better than, mall food court Chinese. What we got was neither. Won’t go back here.

It was my first time here because I was craving for some congee in the neighbourhood. Huge disappointment! First of all, the restaurant itself seriously needs renovation work done. It big and spacious but it looks dirty, reminds me of restaurants in Chinatown. The service is terrible. Very slow service! And I was not pleased when the man delivered my chow mein with his thumb touching the food. How unhygienic. Prices are cheap. You get what you pay for… which is poor quality. I regret coming here and I rather have driven all the way to Kwong Chow on Main st instead. We ordered: — preserved egg and shredded pork congee — chicken with green peppers and black bean chow mein — Szechuan beef noodles Food overall: no comment. I’ve had better. Will I return? Nope.

This restaurant has been around this neighborhood for decades. It’s been here for as long as I can remember, so you would think that the food would be up to par. This review is based on 2 separate visits. 1. Beef Brisket w/Steamed Rice — Beef Brisket was not braised well enough. The flavor is there, but the texture is very far off. The rice was a complete fail. It was so soft that you could practically eat it without chewing 2. Beef Tripe/Brisket Fried Noodle — Beef Brisket had a good texture this time. The tripe lacked flavor and the texture was off as, once again, it wasn’t braised long enough. The noodle was deep-fried in RANCID oil. This factor alone is a fail automatically. Come on guys! Seriously, with the invention of the pressure cooker. There’s no reason why innards, and tough chunks of meat cannot be properly braised. As for the rice, it was the most unappealing, undesirable rice I’ve had in a long time. I didn’t even finish it. I’ll order a fried rice for my next go, and if that isn’t up to par again. I will not be coming here again.

Not much to say. I thought the food was all right but a little expensive for what they are offering. Plates run from about $ 11 to about $ 14. I would like to give 2.75 stars if I could. I feel like they could go to a little more effort to make this place seem cleaner. The dishes have those baked-in stains and the floor could use some power-cleaning. That being said, the staff was way friendlier than I would have expected for an old-school restaurant like this one. Everybody was happy, making jokes, and generally in a good mood.
